In a future where interstellar diplomacy is the norm, humanity is often the butt of jokes due to their relatively short lifespans. When a delegation of the long-lived Voltrix arrive for trade negotiations, they can't resist their usual digs at humans. But their mockery turns to surprise when they meet 'Gramps', as the humans call him. Gramps is centuries old, possesses a youthful appearance and boundless energy, and is considered a legendary figure by mankind. He challenges the Voltrix's perception of humanity, showcasing that their short lives are packed with daring, innovation, and a spirit of self-sacrifice that has made them unexpectedly resilient in the grand scheme of the universe.

Would you want to live for centuries?
Yes. Either in the life I have or a fantasy one
As long as one is mentally and physically healthy, and there's interesting stuff to learn and experience...why not
Yes, not because I'm afraid of death but because have so much to do and learn.
Do I look scottish to you?
To quote Queen: "Who wants to live forever, oh, when love must die?"
It's true that we, the 'Mayflies of the Galaxy' have short lifespans, but like the Fireflies, we shine bright. Living past our nineties is a rare gift, treasure the lives you have.
Love it love it. I finally pressed subscribed, expecting stories not a clone of the one before but something that makes your heart skip a bit with wonder and joy. Thank you for the brilliant narration.
I genuinely cried for this storytime.
I love the last one: it ain't so bad being a mayfly. Gramps answered: it wasn't, indeed
You maybe the biggest and brightest stars in whole galaxy but sometimes you will be dead and forgotten in some century
So live your life in your fullest, people because time will be never in our side
Time waits for no man
If we live for 200years retirement would be 180years old and tax payers until 160
and most politicians would be 210
It doesn't work, yet everyone accepts it.
I refuse.
Nah, if we live to 200, we'll be paying taxes until 250.
@@The3ddfan Imagine if the average lifespan of a human was 1000 years. What would the age of retirement be, then?
@@MrTitaniumFerrous Not sure. The IRS doesn't believe in death. Only taxes.
I love the people who shart on the details of this story. It's art. It's beautiful. Make something better rather than trying to tear this down.
I loved listening to this. It was awesome
Hey mate , new Aussie subscriber , I really appreciate a human being narrating these stories 👍👍👍👍👍
"the brightet stars usually burn for the shortest time" I belive the saying goes
Not only as methaphor but it's actually the case the bigger the star the shorter it's lifespawn.
I don't understand. Humans have short lifespans. Then they bring out an old guy. Then it turns out humans have essentially become immortal. Why do the aliens think humans have short lifespans?
Because, by comparison they do...gramps is the only one that lives on and on...go back to 4:20 and listen again...
♿
He is the last human who probably went through those nanite treatments the rest probably probably either died or went into hiding
@@jakevex4198 Ah, so humans became immortal and then gave it up because a short life is better? Okay.
@@KentoLeoDragon
Yeah it wasn't clearly put, I had to relisten a few times.
Our short lives is what makes us beautiful
I think immortality, or hugely expanded lifespans could be great.
Maybe we could find a way to lock away older memories but leaving them accessible when purposely accessed.
Then you can basically reboot yourself and start over fresh every couple centuries, while still being able to take back your old life skills and experiences when you need them.
The basic idea in this is great but there are so many contradictions in it.
Accidents happen, to live as long as him you would have to take no rusks like traveling, or meeting new species.
By that time in the future dentistry will have advanced so that will be able to eat rusks !
I figure the more centuries you live, the less careful you’ll be. Or, the more risk you’d be willing to take.
Maybe there’d be a lot of centegenerians, and most would try for bicentegenerians, but they’d live their third century a lot more riskily, and quadricenregenaiins would be rare, and semi-millennial folk might be extremely rare.
If physically healthy and mentally sharp and if my loved ones did too.
I really enjoyed the story.
You wrote this? Thanks im enjoying it.
yup!
Not personally but I would like to talk to someone that could tell me of past events. What really happened in the past such as who built the sphinx.
How detailed was its sphinxter when it was new. LOL
The Egyptians.
Well, if there were such people that old, Christianity and other religions wouldn't exist.
I mean, billions of people actually believe Jesus existed, but if you actually care to look into it, he didn't.
Humanity could be so much more than it is today, religion has held us back for so damn long.
Yes, if my body stayed young and I kept my sex drive and love of learning.
Is Gramps special having long life. (. For a human ) ? The way it is written it would seem so !
One of a kind I would imagine...
I assume that Gramps was created when the ancient scientists figured out how to stop the biological clock indefinitely, and that he may have been the first to be chosen to receive a treatment that had not yet been refined or tested on the human body whose side effects made him immune to the effects of time...
Oh, there.
Awesome story!
The first 10 minutes are good, and the next 5 are okay, but the end is soooo much philosophical jabbering.
No matter what, most people would want to live longer. Maybe not forever, but longer. As long as they stay mentally and physically healthy (or healthy enough to still enjoy things), 200 years doesn't sound bad.
Not too long ago a lot of people didn't even reach 60, now 100 isn't out of reach for a lot of us. And some people get even older than that and still enjoy life.
If I had a whole galaxy to explore with all the safety and amenities this story describes - heck yes, I want those centuries!
Yapping and cope.
I ask for this.
Learn the difference between ideal and idea.
People... Look if you were virtually immortal.. not age nor disease.. and were spry forever... Like no aging after 35 or 25... But not invincible... T
The most you could ever live would be about 14000 years... Most about 8000, and avg about 3000... Why you ask... Random things catch up to you...
This must be an A.I.
or a translation from a non english source, too disjointed
Sorry, over done and campy.
A poem by Edna ST. Vincent Milay
FIG "My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night, But Oh my foes and Oh my friends it makes a lovely light" (sorry going from memory and I may have paraphrased) I AM old after all 😊
... that's some of the worst cope I've ever heard.
It's very easy for someone in the prime of their life with no health issues and no experience with death beyond the loss of a childhood pet to wax poetic on how death, which is nothing more than a distant concept for them, is nothing to be afraid of and even a positive thing to be embraced. Let them lose a sibling or survive a major accident, though, or hear that they or someone they love has cancer. Watch how quickly they shut their mouths as the finality of it begins to sink in.
well.... I've been DEAD twice. I'm 56 now, and i DON'T FEAR DEATH like you actually i don't have ANY fear anymore. you sound like a regretful old person. get a grip if you're so wise in your ancient life... you just sound shallow and ignorant.
There was a polo question about having images and videos with the stories. I do like pictures, but I find they often don't match the story. For example in this case he is actually looking like a young man but the picture is an old man
