The LS7 is the greatest engine ever made. Are we ever going to get a rev-happy, NA 427 offered in a car again? Not likely. I’m also fond of that because when I worked at a lube shop, someone brought one in(in the Z06), and nobody else could figure out how to fill it up with oil, cuz I was the only one who just happened to know it was a dry sump engine. I just kinda assumed everyone was as nuts about this new bonkers mega-LS as I was.

both cars are great fun but i really like the Z28 IF I had to pick just one.
I like both cars no matter the differences. I do prefer the manual over auto or dct but to drive those both is a dream for many so cant complain. I think you got best of both worlds Craig. You got the auto when you dont wanna deal with traffic and just get point A to B, then you have that 6 speed H pattern monster that on some days you just feel like ripping through gears. Cheers man.

The Camaro looks far better than the GTR in my opinion. The GTR has looked the same since the R35 came out years ago. But the 5th gen Camaro is a timeless design that will continue to look good for ages to come. And it sounds lightyears better too 🤣
I almost pulled the trigger on a Z28. Ended up going with a 2017 Camaro SS instead. Wife wanted the creature comforts.

I’m 58 and I ditched my 2015 Z06 for the 2015 Z28. It’s brutal. It’s loud. It’s fast. It’s obnoxious. It’s impractical. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I'm a Chevy guy and I know what the 5th gen Z/28 is all about. I would take one over the GTR hands down all day long. Great video and thanks for making it. I'm in my 50's too and I love the obnoxious noises that this car makes.
Nice comparison! I respect GT-Rs and wouldn't mind having one. However, given that I've got a 2014 Camaro SS, I'd probably opt for the Z/28.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. You are 1000% right on the dull factor. I doubt you would read my comment but if you go to my page I have a 700hp Camaro and at car shows people just walk right on by(my c4 gets more attention). I laughed so hard to myself when you were talking about the same thing and how raw the car is. A huge issue is the clutch and shifter in those cars. I saw you bouncing while shifting and you might think it’s Something you’re doing wrong but it’s not.

I personally own a 2012 SS, and I plan on buying a 14 or 15 Z/28 soon.
The R 35 is a awesome car/ weapon, don't get me wrong, but it's no R34, that was produced in low numbers, and only available in Japan, where's the R35 was worldwide.
I'll stick to the last Z/28...... hell, it might even be the last N/A gasoline engine to be associated with that badge .
My neighbor has a cammed 5th gen ss I actually don’t mind his car it’s sounds great! But then again I own a turbo g35 coupe open turbo 6mt.

I like the fact that the Z28 has an actual manual transmission. i prefer a car with less technology. I got my maxima just because is has a 6 speed manual. i just put an H-LSD from a SE-R Spec V into the tranny a few months ago...
The Z28 is by far the better option than that old hog fanboy of a car gtr.

I love both cars but for me it's the GT-R, more HP, less weight, higher RPM engine and AWD! Spinning tires and a droning exhaust combined with GM's clunky interiors do nothing more me.
Perhaps I would take a Camaro if I had a larger collection of gold chains.

Which of the two would you choose if looking for a weekend car to take to California tracks every other month or so? The C7 Z06 I rented from Hertz overheated at Thunderhill and is the reason my friends and family swear by NA engines like their Viper's, Vette's and Porsches.

Makes me wonder what the reception would be if an auto maker followed the OG Viper's philosophy: maximum performance in the cheapest package possible.
I.e. dump all thr R&D into the motor, chassis, and suspension, then just parts-bin-special the interior.
Would being the best bang for the buck be enough or do buyers simply demand the finer details in their sports cars?
Edit: after typing this I looked st some economy car interiors and holy hell they have gotten nice. Both the Chevy Spark and Mitsubishi Mirage come in at under $15k, but still have decent looking interiors (from images at least) and have LCD infotainment displays, a far cry from what I was expecting.
I just have to ask…was there a performance reason you didn’t consider the GT350R, seeing as you also like mustangs?
I can answer that. The GT350R driving on the streets is HARSH and it hurts

I have a 2015 Camaro 2SS RS with the TR6060, love the 5th gen Z/28, mostly for the LS7, it's only about 100lbs lighter than the SS. The 7 speaker audio, heated leather seats, touchscreen, rear view camera, halos, sun roof(could take or leave) are all nice features in the 2SS that make it a more enjoyable daily. The 5th gen ZL1s are currently cheaper than the Z/28s also.
Yeah, I’d go for the ZL1 over the Z/28 because it has better straight-line performance and creature comforts.
I feel like the fact that the GT-R cost half again as much as the Camaro was not given as much consideration as it maybe should have.

@@ACommenterOnUA-cam GTRs are everywhere on UA-cam and at car meets and best numbers I can find as of 2021 there’s been 21,585 sold in North America and Europe I didn’t bother finding anywhere else cause it’s way beyond relevant my points proven. There was only 1801 z/28’s made they’re definitely not everywhere and clearly not way more on the road. A z/28 is nothing like the other new camaros and it has plenty of special things about it they are for function not for people walking by to stop and look at. Furthermore not many daily driver N/A 500+ hp cars. Like I said only idiots walk past something like that cause they lack knowledge and believe car enthusiasts see JDM as exotic or special when it’s not it’s just over priced and put on a pedestal by fan boys. A car enthusiast is the few guys who stop at the z/28 cause they know what it is and it’s rare. The fan boys are over taking photos of 6 GTR parked together. You said it yourself you have 4 JDM cars and won’t lie to me and I appreciate that but your clearly lying to yourself.
The gtr is a good car I’m not saying it’s bad or anything. It’s really helped so many that lack skill and that’s good.

IT'S a great car but my problem, WAY TOO LOUD!!! Like 1st thing I would do if I buy a car like that: Varex exhaust kit, I love hearing my car speak to me but when she's yelling all the time...
The Camaro is a sweet car but the low roof line is a problem. Other than that desirable. I would most likely choose a Red Eye Challenger over the Camaro for various reasons.

ZL1 is not 300 lbs heavier than the previous gen Z28. In fact, according to MotorTrend, manual ZL1 1LE weighs 3,837 lbs, regular ZL1 is 3,912 lbs and 10 speed auto regular ZL1 is 3,926 lbs.

I stopped being a Camero fan after they originally went away in 2002 and I was never able to get excited about the 5th gen. Meanwhile, I'd have leveraged my whole life to get a GTR in 2008, but unfortunately I'm not that stupid. I'd still pick a GTR over a Camero without a second thought.

I can't hear the video, audio quality is poor.
So I'll give my 2 cents. I'm taking the Camaro any day. I'm coming from a place of owning a SS50 Stang GT, and Evo X, neither no where near stock, and before that various Hondas; RHD, S2000's, WRX's ect. So I was into the Japanese stuff big time, and still have one.
The R35 is not a pretty car. Ghosn took the design language of Nissan to a bad place, and I think the only Nissan cars since his reign that look good IMO are the G35 and G37 coupes. Take even the B15 Sentra, it debuted before he was CEO, and he even had a cost-cutting facelift which made it look yet cheaper and uglier, with even the SE-R sharing the new base facia. The R35 is defintely function over form, 100%. When we were kids (in my 30's now) the things you noticed about cars were how they looked first, and then how they sounded if you watched a video or saw it in real life. A lot of newer cars do neither well, and if they don't, they can do nothing for me. I don't care what it CAN do. Can a GT-R beat V8's, 10's? Yes. But does it look good doing so? Not IMO. Would I have fun if were me? Not without a manual. Would it sound good doing it? To be fair possibly, turbo cars depend on the hot-side parts for sound, so it could depending on the kit. If the R35 was a Skyline 370GT/G37/V36 with wider fenders, like the R32/33/34 GT--R were compared to their base models then, it would have at least been attractive. Then maybe I could get over the DCT.
As I said, I would take the 5th gen over it, easy. Looks, sound, manual. I actually love the exterior of the facelift 14-15 5th gen. Hate the original 10-13 version. I hate the interior of the 5th gen, though, and that's actually why I don't have one myself. When I decided on Mustang, I was going between all 3 muscles/pony. And the 6th gen Camaro is so much better in every way than the 5th gen, except exterior looks. So, if I got a Camaro, I would have to decide on the better car overall (6th gen), or the prettier car (5th gen) I wasn't going to make a compromise that big, so Camaro was out. But compared to a GT-R, all day. Also the LS7 also revs to the same thing the GT-R does.
z28 is way cooler than that ricer jdm gtr no questions asked. gtr is a fanboy boring car unless it’s an actual skyline gtr.

The Z28 just isn’t popular like the C6 Z06 that was the original car to have the LS7 427 small block instead of playing 70k for An Z28 that looks like an regular 5th gen with an lip kit I rather play 40-50k for an C6 Z06 corvette cuz itz 690 LBS lighter and itz faster and Ik your not an vette guy but at this point both cars are using old interiors from older models so itz even your paying less and getting an better car with the C6 Z06 that’s an better deal🤷🏼. FYI * The only place this car would get attention is at LS fest cuz everyone would knew it has the LS7 in it👀
Buying c5/c6 era vettes isn’t about the interior. yes, GM coulda easily spent more, but the cars would’ve cost more, and not be as affordable. but those who complain about the interiors are missing the point. It’s about the driving enjoyment when you’re screeching around backcountry/mountain roads, and hearing the roar when you’re flooring it up an on-ramp.
My C5 is the most liveable sports car for daily driving I’ve ever owned.

The Z28 should have 5 litre or 5.7 litre as like the Trans Am cars did in 60s and early 70s and Irocs of 80s.
427 was what the COPO cars had in 69. ZL1 should of had 427.
Anyway for me I would pick the Z28 ,I am a muscle fan boy. I am from UK and Muscle cars get looks. My mate has 1LE in red same shape as this car and it looks awesome and gets attention. In USA may not because they see them all the time.a GTR will not get attention in Japan its domestic car for them.
But would have a GTR over any BMW or Audi as JDM cars are cool.
