This is the definition of a passion project. It took over two years of pre-production and over two years to film, cranking out about one minute of footage per week. Tim Burton wrote a poem that this film is based off, and he was in charge of design and artistic vision. Tim Burton is one of the most brilliant men of our time, his style is so strange and beautiful.

    To clarify
Burton created the story, the character designs and the look of halloween and christmas town, and wrote part of the lyrics together with danny elfman, but was top busy with batman returns to direct it, so selick, who was a friend of burton and had a similar visual taste, was chosen to direct the movie

I was working in a movie theater when this movie first came out and we decorated our lobby for it, spider webs all over we made a graveyard in the lobby with real dirt and I made the Christmas tree doorway out of cardboard and made a cardboard body of Jack wrapped it in black cloth and a white plastic bag for his head and i took a wire coat hanger and stretched white cloth acrossed it to make Zero and had them crawling out of the Christmas tree door, our lobby looked pretty cool. Great movie.

I was only about five at the time, so my mom was a little worried it might be too much even though it was claymation and seemed like it would be kid-friendly from the trailers. I remember her leaning over to tell me in the seats, saying, "If this gets too scary for you, tell me and we'll leave okay?" and kept reminding me of it, even during the movie. I remember telling her it wasn't scary for me at all, but I don't actually know if I just said that to sound ~cool~ and ~mature~ or if I really felt that way, but we did watch it every year on VHS after as a tradition!

I don't know if you're into music theory at all, but this film actually dabbles in it a little, with every time Jack sings, and when Sally sings.
There's what's called the Phrygian stank note that they both hit when they sing. It's basically a note that sounds slightly off from the rest of the notes being sung in a lyric.
You can hear it in Jack's lament, and Sally's song.
It's used to show their connection, even on the most basic musical level.

Not sure if anyone else has commented this, but it’s funny that you mention the grinch.
There’s this theory going around that 4 movies are about the same man.
It starts with a movie I don’t remember the name of, but it’s with a boy and his dog. Then there’s the grinch. After that comes Corpse Bride, followed by Nightmare before Christmas.
    4 men. 4 dogs.
If it was possible to insert a picture here I’d show you the epic one showing some of the stages of him.
Anyway. Great reaction! I love this movie, and have been watching it every Halloween and Christmas since it came out when I was little. And to answer your question - No. I was not scared of it. Although I never got (nor get) scared of anything, so I might be the wrong person to ask, lol. I’m actually a bit bummed about it, as it appears to be a great thrill and fun to get scared sometimes. But I’ll just keep enjoying watching others get scared instead 😃

tim Burton's Batman was not the original. The original Batman was the one made in the 1960s starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin.

I read on Internet there's some easter eggs to Tim Burton's movie in this one even he didn't directed it.
The moment with the Easter bunny always make me laugh because in France, it's the Easter bells (even if we know the bunny).
You should react to " Coraline " it's another stop motion movie.
What holidays, the bird represents ?

Well, technically Jack IS already dead but he could become COMPLETLEY DEAD like he says in his song, he would turn into dust which eventually will happen to a skeleton that is not properly preserved, or his bones could be ground into powder or the explosion could have destroyed him completely.

Hi! maybe you'll be interested: a-capella group colled VOICEPLAY did covers almost all the songs from this movie. It's great!! I also highly recommended cover Jack's lament by Geoff Castellucci (bass from VOICEPLAY).

Thank you for your reactions; I love them.
Maybe you could react to 'Inside Man'(2006) about a brilliant bank heist
or 'The Wave'(2008) original title 'Die Welle', a serious movie about how easy people are radicalized (read up on in).

Tim Burton wrote the original poem and it was adapted into a movie. Yes others wrote the screenplay and it was directed by Henry Selick but it was Tim Burtons original idea ans poem and influenced by the Tim Burton style. Its kinda like Where the Wild Things Are being adapted into a movie, another children's book. As much as I agree that everyone involve should get more credit with this film I also do not agree taking away from Tim Burton as being the creator of the original poem and idea. If we go down that rabbit hole all children book stories creators should not be credited for anything when their books get adapted into films. Not right either.
