That whole run with HHH that you think was so great, was fucking awful. Its how he books anyone he doesn't like. He shits on them and shits on them and then pretends that's building heat. But the fact is yes audiences want to see strong ruthless heels but if the heel kicks the crap out the babyface and the babyface doesn't retaliate in a way that the crowd can cheer then it becomes unbalanced and you can risk the audience losing respect for the babyface. The only reason that type of booking worked with the Rock was one The Rock was just so good he couldn't be stopped. 2. Steph, Vince and certain other members of that faction actually knew what they were doing and either took the bumps for Hunter which he was too cool to take himself or alternatively Vince balanced out Hunters worst instincts. We've seen how Hunter books when he's trying to covertly or maybe even subconsciously fuck people over. I mean imagine if Kurt Angle was booked the way Chad Gable is being booked? We'd have lost complete respect for him. You can't just have a character keep losing when they promise they are going to accomplish something. Same shit he did with Dean Ambrose and LA Knight. They say I' vow to accomplish this if they are a babyface or I vow to accomplish this by hook or by crook if they are a heel and then they keep failing. The audience simply just loses interest. That's not how you build a hero or villain. And the Rock vs Triple H feud was the real first glimpse we had into how Hunter would book feuds. BC I know he had a lot of input into his booking at that point. That being said, it was entertaining mainly because of the Rock, Shane, Stephanie and Vince. less so Hunter, who was fun at times but often just boring. And never seemed to want to really show ass as they say in Show Biz to make The Rock, the big baby face look good or like an actual threat. Compare this to how Kurt Angle played the heel or Ric Flair or even The Rock and Stone Cold. Everyone who feuded with them as heels came out looking better. Stone Cold almost turned RVD into a mainevent player. He elevated Kurt Angle by tapping to him. He made Bret Hart one of the greatest Heels of the AE. Rock made Mankind look like championship material. Ric has too many to mention. Kurt Angle helped elevate so many guys. Guys Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Edge, John Cena, owe their careers to Kurt Angle. That's the kind of heel Kurt played. One that made you look better after. Who has HHH ever really done that with? Even the Sheild, tthe hottest group going, Evolution had to come in and he couldn't just lose the feud clean, he had to get Rollins on his side and end the Sheild. Could the Sheild have gone on another year? Over as fuck after beating evolution. Yep. But Not with HHH. The Heel has to always somehow win and make the babyfaces look trash., Until no one cares about them anymore. The only people he ever elevated are his buddies like Seth, Randy and Batista. Sure he put over John, Roman and Brock. But those were Vince's guys. He's smart enough to know when he has to kiss the ring to keep his political power so he can fuck with other guys careers. Other than that, its only his inner-circle that he really ever puts over. And lets face it Seth, Randy and Batista. (Oh and of course Chris Benoit) Good workers, good look, complete charisma vacumes in terms of their wrestling personalities. That's the guys he likes to push. Guys who won't step on the legend that is HHH. He was a good heel but not a great one in my opinion and what held him back was he failed at the most important aspect of what a heel is supposed to do. Make the babyface look like a million bucks.

I'm not loving the "I quit" angle either. We just had an "I Quit" match this weekend, and we had the fake retirement angle with AJ Styles a couple weeks before that. I'm really not sure where they're heading with DM, but I agree he's one of the biggest stars they have right now, and they need to do something more exciting with him.
