    Thank you sooo much. That simple and easy. My fisherman partner asked me to fillet the fish so he didn't have to when he got home. I googled how to do that and this popped up. I cracked and it was my 1st time filleting snapper... I have done kahawai but those didn't turn out as good as what you showed me lols. Thank you soo very much

    Always go over the rib cage it's so much easier and you don't breach the gut cavity which exposes the flesh to millions of bacteria.

      Correct. If using a non electric fillet knife, always go over the rib cage. Not near as messy, clean fillet.

    This is real fast way of filleting fish with an even smaller number of knife strokes great for
    getting through a number of fish

    or you could just scale the top back and near the neck and fillet it. the reason to scale just those side bc it won't dull the knife ( and easy cutting ) and you skin it if you don't eat the skin or just scale the whole thing if you eat the skin

    I’m a bit of a fishing novice but even I know contaminating your knife with guts and then touching the flesh with it is a really bad idea!

      2:48 and you got two fillets in your hand,quiet shot time huh ?Nobody promised you skin and scale anyways.

    why say start at the tail but you change to the head when you flip it over? I always find it easier to start at the head so you go with the scales not against them. But hey, fish was filleted and probably tasted beautiful. Good job

    Hmmm I usually notice the more swipes with the blade the rougher the texture of the fish, once I get past the ribs I usually get the fillet in one swipe, and never go in to the gut cavity or ribs if I can help it. There must be thousands of way to fillet the same fish.

    • @mrdeadsea7779
      @mrdeadsea7779 8 років тому

      Yeah, there's quite a few. What the best way to avoid the gut cavity that you know of ?

    • @Palpac
      @Palpac 8 років тому

      +MrDeadSea777 a bit out of practice at the mo, fishing has been a bit harder the last couple of years. smaller fish I would just cut down along the head to the top of the ribs then make a cut from there to in behind the poo shoot then push the knife down towards the tail while making a long swiping motion. of course that's only good on smaller snapper and depending how long your knife is, not much meat around the belly flaps to worry about wasting it. snapper like the one in the bid and up I change it up as there would be more wastage doing it the way I described. I think as long as you don't puncture the actual stomach or intestines etc it should be pretty sweet. fish roe is in the gut cavity and people still eat that.

    • @mrdeadsea7779
      @mrdeadsea7779 8 років тому

      Palpac Sounds good man. I usually gut and wash them in salt water, but can get a bit time consuming. And you're right... the less swipes the better the fillet. Might have to give that method a go. Cheers

    If you would like to see how to fillet fish and in a way that provides a how to, go to the knifetechnz videos on You Tube, I notice you have fishing NZ on this video, not the way I would want people to fillet or expose there fish to contamination, if this is how then we need to make sure we know the right ways.

    From a professional fish cutter u crack thru the rib bone not leave it on the fillet. And u start from the head not the tail LOL

    Fuck you made a mess of that snapper bro and pretty much laughed through the whole video. Even more hardcase is you had a struggle cutting through the spine to the point where video cuts out. Nex minit fillet is already cut of body. Haha I know everybody has there own way of filleting snapper but your vids cut the cake in my opinion. Good shit bro and thanks for the laugh. Should upload another tip on how to take skin of the fillet.

    Sorry mate but that is not a good way to fillet a fish,You have just contaminated your fillet by going through the guts and taken the edge off your knife by cutting through the rib bones.But as you said each to their own.
