Gerund acts as Noun and can be the subject of the sentence but on the other hand Participle acts as an adjective which modifies Noun. Here "Spreading" is the subject as well as modifying the noun "misinformation"
Gerund acts as a subject and an object both. Here ... misinformation spread karna achcha nahi h ....this is the sense of this sentence.. Spreading is used before noun but working as a gerund..
