  • A mid morning ferry from Haines to Skagway allowed us time to check into our hotel and make our way to the White Pass Railway station in town ready for our 4pm train up the White Pass. The vintage carriages and the fact they allow you to stand outside, between the carriages made it a really great experience as the scenery was truly magical, especially as the weather was warm with bright sunshine.
The next day once we had checked out of our hotel, we stopped in town briefly to purchase a couple of locally made fixed blade knives to act as a very practical reminder of our delightful visit and stay at the Historic Skagway Inn. We filled up with fuel and made our way out of town travelling up the White Pass by Summit Lake to the border and onto Carcross where we stopped for a brief lunch in the sunshine, a special mention should go to the most excellent Bison Tacos at the Bistro, they were amazing. Wildlife once again was scarce with only a sighting of a hare and a couple of Canadian Pygmy moose dashing across the road.
A further 90 or so km saw us ride through Tagish and over the impressive Tagish river eventually meeting the Alcan highway at Jakes Corner, where we turned south toward our overnight accommodation once again at Johnsons Crossing. Not bad for two people in their mid 60's. Dont forget its Never Too Late ......
