The Van Laeck Overdrive Special is a faithful reproduction of the infamous line of amps created by Howard Alexander Dumble. His designs root in the Fender Blackface area of the 60’s but as Lowell George once told an interviewer: “It’s a Fender made right”
Dumble introduced a revolutionary tonestack and added a 2nd gain stage to it’s Fender ancestors. Combined with a slightly tweaked phase inverter, this delivers the typical D-style overdrive that we all learned to love over the past decades. Not in the last place because of the longlist of guitarhero’s that have used and still use them.
This particular specimen is based on the first version (Mr. D. modified it at a later stage) of ODS number 124. It has a 50W, 2 x 6L6, power section and is build up with NOS components.
At Van Laeck we use the same layout as the great man himself and spent considerable time voicing the amps such that they approach the originals.
The Van Laeck Overdrive Special comes with a lifelong warranty on manufacturing defects.
2 x 6L6 50W, Passive Effects Loop, Manual & Foot Switchable: Channel Switch Clean-Overdrive, Pre-Amp Boost, FET Boost, Tube Set: Tungsol Re-issue, D26.5mm - W53.5mm - H26.5mm (measured without handle and feet), Weight 14 KG - 30LB, Lifetime Guarantee on manufacturing defects, Footswitch included (Pre Fet boost/Channel/Tone bypass boost)
In particular thanks to Niels for demo-ing this amplifier, his playing style suits this ‘Dumble Clone’ perfectly!

We recorded this video with an SM57 and the Captor X, the most present sound you hear here comes from the SM57. For extra atmosphere, we used some extra reverb at the beginning or at the end of our takes.
Ron builds these awesome amps with the highest level of skill and perfection. The handwiring is impeccable. Every single amp that comes out of his hands is the result of his passionate love for tone and ultimate technical quality.
No routine production at Van Laek....Each amp is a new project and will only be released when it reaches the level of being so good it almost hurts to let it go. The man really loves his work. Without hesitation Ron gladly offers Lifetime Guarantee on manufacturing defects as he takes pride in delivering nothing less than the best level of quality in the buisiness.
As mind blowing as they sound in these demo video's.....when you actually play through one and feel it, is when your jaw drops.
Hey bud, thats some kickass playing right there. Subscribed
