Good for Matty don’t let the bad actions of a clown ruin your biking or your channel. You have come so far and done so much since you first started the channel. Cheers 🍻 how
I’m new to the sport and I never realized how much actually went into all of this, I also never realized how much skill just going down a rocky hill takes.
I really love my marlin 6. I like watching what other people do with theirs as far as how far they can go. I think I'm gonna ride this bad boy for a few years stock, and then upgrade to something like a higher end roscoe.. I'm definitely sold on TREK though!!!
I did this trail on my hardtail fat bike and it was brutal. The video does not do justice to how difficult some of that rock garden is. On 26''x4.8'' wheels there are no real rollover issues but the back end feels like riding a basketball. You're crazy for trying this on a skinny wheel 29er with a coil-n-oil fork, that probably feels like 10 straight minutes of push-ups just keeping the front wheel where you want it. Super impressive descent!
Holy crap, that's one rough trail! The shot at the end of the ride with the bike lying there in the parking lot like a dog that played fetch for just a little too long kinda summed it up. I'm sure you could have pushed through that but it probably wouldn't have been that safe and you might have damaged your bike. Gotta bring in the diesel for that trail, LET'S GO!!!
Fantastic. I bet so many are shouting a Marlin cant do that!! But as the Marlin is as much as some people's budget will stretch to its great to see it do it, and isn't some of the fun doing what others say cant be done!!! Keep up the great videos 👍
Stumbled on your vides the other days. You're killing it man, love how real you are with the audience. Getting back into mtb after time away and its great seeing local trails featured (I'm out in Erie). Keep it up!
I got a 2020 Marlin 6 and that thing can take a fair amount of abuse. I ride it on NJ trails with mixed terrain and I will admit drops and rocks can feel bad, but to me that is the whole point of a hardtail. Yeah, I could have dropped 2 grand on a full suspension and had a smoother ride but keeping things stupid simple is worth it to me. If the marlin ever goes totally my next bike will be a used full suspension, but my cheap hardtail was perfect for learning the ropes and becoming (somewhat) competent on two wheels.
love the Vids bro new to the channel I've been looking at the marlin 6 gen 3 the past few days and watched several videos of yours and just ordered one tonight seems like a great bike to get me back into it. Its been a while since I've rode trails but looking forward to getting back at it. Safe riding brother.
fair play to you even trying this track. it looks like the type of course pros should only only be riding and on 10 grand super bikes. bless that marlin 6 for giving it a dam good go.
I’m considering a Marlin 6 and your videos have been great. I like your real world feedback vs just going through specs. Test rode a Marlin this weekend and it felt great. Gonna try some different bikes at the sub $1,000 price point and make my choice based on comfort.
What'd you go with? Just picked up the 6 Gen 2 during the Trek sale for under $800 and I'm stocked to get it all set up to fit me the best it can and go ride.
Nice video as usual, Matty. I got just yesterday Trek Farley 7 2022 Fat Bike. Expensive but beautiful. For some your trails would be perfect. Thank you and Good luck.
I’ve been watching a few of your vids, and thanks for being real. All I care about is the ride. I don’t do rocky rides much anymore, because I don’t enjoy them, no matter the bike…Simple as that…I have ridden some crazy trails in my time, rocks, cliffs, you name it…Southern Blue Ridge mountain terrain…I enjoyed it but the rocks just get on my nerves after a while. Too many flat tires, I guess. LOL..Anyway, I sub’d because you are a real one. Ride and find out. Practicality wins the day. That’s me buddy. Well, you keep on enjoying those jagged rocky trails that rattle your teeth and I’ll enjoy my leg day up a gradual quarter mile incline! Oh, and I’m glad the Marlin 6 can handle some rough stuff, even if it isn’t the best option for it…For me, the best option is avoidance! LOL God bless
Hey Matty, got into your videos recently because I like your content on the marlin and Roscoe best. Great commentary, great video quality and POV, and great trails. Please definitely do a review on the Roscoe on that same trail. I have that same exact marlin 6 matt black, but am thinking about getting a Roscoe because I want it to handle anything I throw at it. Also, I totally get how that event with the golf cart really got you down. I'd feel mucky about it too, but glad the trail made you feel better.
Nice one Matt and good to see ya back on the trail with ya marlin 6....ps just seen the other vid and what happened ya handled yourself well, some people are just idiots there was no need for his actions good to get out and burn some rubber.....stay safe buddy 👍
Thanks for that! I am thinking about buying a Marlin 6 gen 3. I live in Egypt and although i won't be going on trails, our roads are nasty. I am guessing that this bike is really good and durable and will last forever for commuting.
Cool. I just bought one today. Black and yellow color scheme. Seems to really "pop." It won't be available until November though because of the supply issues i guess.
Great. Maybe we will cross paths at some point. If you ever check out roller derby, I photograph Denver Roller Derby and Rocky Mountain Roller Derby in Denver.
I’ll be picking up a Marlin 4 next week from a LBS, to get into biking. Now I know. If big brother can’t make trails like the one in this video, the Marlin 4 certainly can’t. I’m still looking forward to the Marlin 4 though because my weight and my skill level (what comes before beginner?) will help get me into the sport at least.
I've been looking for a allround MTB bike for the last couple of months. you and your channel in company with other channels i've Landed on a Trek Marlin 7! oh my it is good to ride, took me right back to the young hopefull days, when i Won the highschool bike competition after starting last. I won with 3 whole minutes with different terrain. and i will most definitely follow your channel and upcoming Content:) Keep up the good work :D
My marlin 6 and I hit black diamonds, only upgraded to a better shifter so far and I roll on Specilized butcher trail tyres at level 9 (9 is grip so a heavy duty offroad) on my rear and a Michillan enduro on my front! marlin 6 does more then people give it cred for.
I love it! Way to push that Marlin and still have the sense to know when to say when. Have you had your brakes bled and your fork lubed yet this season?
I've put my marlin 6 through some hard trails and the frame has surprisingly held up really well. I've seen a video or 2 where the seat stays break at the seat post and I check there every so often just to be sure. It's now a 1500$ bike instead of the 650$ I paid for it from all my upgrades lol. I've been very happy with it! I'll post a video about the setup I got for it eventually.
Woudnt have be better to get the marlin 7? Genuinely asking since it got clutch rear derailleur, tubelessready wheels, rockshock fork etc. Im not sure whether to buy the 6 or the 7. Since its my first "real" bike ever.
Can you make a video about the lock on the derailer or clutch or without clutch, idk what it called the latch that tighten the chain, whats the purpose of that, i have a marlin 6 i just wanna know whats the use of that
I'm planning on buying either a Marlin 6 gen 2 or a Marlin 4 gen 2, i'm still trying to figure out which one is better since right now the price difference between them ( on the trek website ) is a 20$ difference. I'm surprised that people really be going from the bottom to the top of a hill ON THE BIKE and not simply pushing it, i'll try to do that more often and I really appreciate the video, this was the perfect showcase of the trek Marlin 6 And I loved it ! + sub man continue really appreciate it
That trail was next level for a hardtail. Marlin did ok, Roscoe would probably be a little better but that one is looking like Sisku territory. 🤣 Good ride Matty, hope you got your vibes back.
I was looking at the roscoe and the only big difference I noticed were the one by drive train, and dropper? I guess would that really affect things that greatly?
@@ifdsisd_okay dropper is a game changer by itself. Some slight geometry and suspension upgrades vs the Marlin and the 27.5+ size tires really add another level. On paper they look close but i recommend you give a Roscoe a test ride if you are able.
I had a 2018 Trek Marlin 6 until 2021 where I discovered a crack in a weld in the rear triangle that meets the seat tube. It was a great bike nonetheless
Wow, your gopro really doesn't do those drops justice. When you turned back to look at your bike and the trail, that's when you realise how big those drops actually are. If you hadn't had looked back I would've thought you was going down a rocky pathway and not some sort of mountainous decent.
I have a Marlin 7, 2022. Absolutely love it. Damn smooth! The only thing I dislike are the tires, wish they were a bit more thicker. Can I upgrade the tires from 2.2 to 2.4? Trek store says the rear wheel over 2.2 is not recommended.
@@jamesmathews243 do you have 2.35 on Marlin 6 or 7? I have a 7 and really don't like the tires. I had 2.35 on my specialized rockhopper and absolutely loved the grip. So I guess 2.35 would work for me on Marlin as well, as long as they perform great.
@@TheFaz793 Marlin 5, but as state, I'm running a Box 1X9 drive train so that there's no front derailleur to limit my tire size. I could easily fit a 2.4
Nice attempt mate and a good experiment, after a couple of years of wanting to believe the hardtail is capable of tackling the majority of terrain i realised they are the perfect option for flowing XC/mild trail conditions, anything above that, of course you can do it but it becomes uncomfortable, dangerous, and less enjoyable IMO. I have both, trail HT with modern geo and a trail dual sus, once you settle on what each does best it’s an easy decision which one to grab 👍🏻

I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. You should put 2.4 tires on the front and back and do this course again
