Okay, so you have recently installed TIA Portal version 14 and very excited to explore and work with the new version but when you’re going to open up the previous projects that you created with version 13, you see an error.
In this video, you’re going to learn why you’re getting this error and then you’ll learn a very simple step by step process on how to fix it.

A TIA V14 project opens in the same way in TIA V15as a native TIA V15 project.
- Open project (just like TIA V15 project)
- Browse to project
- Select AP14 file
- open
I understand that there are some issues with doing this for safety-enabled PLC's and with some mixed PLC/WinCC projects. There are also some issues with converting some custom libraries.
Once you have opened the project in V15, it is converted to a V15 project and can no longer be used on V14. Make sure you have plenty of backup copies.
@@realpars actually i want to retrieve a v15 file (.ZAP15) in my V14 project so that i can trow it in there since V14 could not retrieve a (.ZAP15 )

I believe you upload the PLC program to your V13 SP1 software, save the project, and then open the project in TIA Portal V14. Give it a try and let us know how if it is successful!

Yes. Follow the steps to upgrade your v13 project to v13 SP1. You can then upgrade the project to any later version directly.

Since I did not try the transition from V12 to V13 myself, I can not give you a piece of firm information about it. But I did not hear from anyone or read anywhere that there may be a problem to do such transition.

If the PLC is programmed with TIA V13 SP1, and I have TIA V15 is their anyway to upload the program, or I have to uninstall V15 and Instal V13sp1 to could be able to upload project from the PLC. (the problem is that I don't have the project I want to upload it)
I believe you will need to install TIA Portal v13 SP1 on your computer to upload the online program successfully. You do not need to uninstall v15 to install v13SP1. Once a project file is created from the upload, you can upgrade it to v15. If you have a PLC other than an S7-1200 or S7-1500, your upload will not contain symbols or other documentation items.
I have a TIA portal V14 program, and I want it upgraded to V16 is it just upgrading it to V15 and then V16?

Hi there,
If you mean migration from Step7 V5.5 or 5.6 to Step7 V14, it is doable through the migration option of the TIA Portal V14.
can i open the t13sp1 project by t15.1 as well ?
Yes, as long as the project in TIA Portal v13SP1 is compiled and saved, you should be able to open or migrate your project to v15. Be careful! Some older HMI panels are NOT supported in v15, and you will receive an error if trying to open one of these older panels in v15. If you migrate your project to v15, make sure you keep a backup copy of the v13SP1 program.

No, you cannot. You need to install TIA Portal and . You then need to migrate the projects to and then migrate to . I wish there were an easier way.
I've been able to migrate rev 13 projects into 14 without having 13 installed on the computer.

If I open a version 13 project using version 12 will it create any fault or corrupt the project or erase ? Please I want to know
When you open the project in a new version as shown in the video or use the Migrate function on the Start menu in the Portal View, the program will be upgraded and stored in a new file. In your case, the source file has a file extension of ".ap12". The new upgraded file will have a file extension of ".ap13". The original file is preserved. As I recommend, backup all of your project files using the file, including opening the file, migrating the file, etc.
@@realpars Actually we don't have backup project so we tried to upload the project using TIA portal version 12. But after connecting our S7 1200, to our surprise the project in the PLC is gone. Could this be due to our action to access the PLC using lower version or something else?

To Upload a Project from a PLC in TIA Portal, in the program editor, you can open up the "online" menu and then select "upload device as a new station". Hope this helps.
@@realpars icouldn't connect, i got an error, i was told that the version that the program are made and downloaded to the plc are the 13,and i have version 15, any idea on how to connect and upload the program with tia portal15?

@@realpars and 13 - 15 requires ... 13 > 14 > 15 ....when tia poral 20 comes out ... have fun ... 13 > 14 > 15 >.... >19 > 20 unless siemns get their fingers out their ASS, this problems is #1 reason why i will never recomend tia portal to anyone ...
and given each install takes up 4 GB of more of HD space... we all need to have dedicated harddrives just for tia portal LOL ....
when you install version 15 .. it should ALWAYS install olderversions or atleast the tools required to upgrade automatic without having to go throw this lame ass process (ofcause there will could in theory limits of how far you could go back, but i dont see why there would need to be) .. you might have somone that dont know this .. and travel to a client to work on a older mashine..to do service or what not and everything has been planed and then be unable to because you cant access the project/PLC ect..
I have never seen a more novice professional program before.
and dont forget to mention how unstable tia portal still is .. i still crash about once per week doing nothing but pressing the interface or some other trivial task ..
