With so many anime that are about an overpowered character who trivializes every enemy in their way with some kind of completely broken skill, the ones where characters have to actually overcome difficulty to achieve their goals have become a rare treat. This concept is so much better than "I was useless at level 1, but all my stats magically become infinite at level 2."
I did actually watch this one a few days ago and it was great surprise, the sidecharacters are all done very well as well (yay the main character isn't the only competent person for once!).

Yes, you shouldn't like that she has to pretend to be a boy to travel safer. That's the point. It's a social commentary. It's just not presented as a "look at me, I'm a social commentary" but it's meant to be there at the back of our heads

Plus she is trying to not get recognized due to the wanted posters hanging all over the place. It does make a lot of sense in her circumstances.
