I wish that Kisara mattered more in the Duel Monsters series. She's the source for Kaiba's ace monster after all, and it's quite obvious that Kaiba/Priest Seto and her are a thing. In fact, she might be the one person who keeps him gounded

Well. She kinda mattered a lot because she was the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Especially if we go by all the Manga contents, I think Kisara was used pretty well. I would also love to see more regarding her, but I dont think it would be necessary!

To answer the question as to why Seto tells Mokuba to never trust anyone but each other is because of their family. When their parents died, the brother's aunts and uncles took the wealth of their parents and instead of taking care of the boys, they dropped them off at an orphanage. The relatives they were supposed to rely on for love and support outright abandoned them after stripping the young boys of any money they would have obtained.
Following this, during their time at the orphanage, many people came by and wanted to adopt Seto because of his high intellect, but didn't want to also take Mokuba because he was just a normal kid with nothing special about him. When Seto refused to leave without Mokuba, Seto would also get passed over in the process.
These aspects of their lives taught them that, at the time, adults were cruel, selfish and only cared about their own interest, never paying mind to even children who needed help and love. That's why Seto developed the mindset he did far before Gozaburo tempered it and pushed Seto to the brink. They were shown through their early life that people are vile by nature and to overcome them, you can't connect to them.

@Netherwolf6100 Your explanation includes anime original stuff added by the anime staff and not in Takahashi's source material manga. Seto and Mokuba's backstory was explained in chapter 40 in the span of 3 pages.
Correcting your mistakes with dialogue straight from the Japanese version of the manga starting from the beginning: Seto didn't tell Mokuba to never trust adults. He told Mokuba "Don't cry. I'll make sure we have a good life someday. But never let your guard down. If you show them weakness then its all over." Next, it was never specifically explained who they were left with after their dad died. It just said "our relatives took their inheritance" which led to them being put in an orphanage. Next, many people didn't come by nor wanted to do adopt Seto for his high intellect and didn't want to adopt Mokuba because he was normal. Gozabura came one day "looking to adopt a child". "Seto knew Gozaburo was the champion of Chess". Seto spoke with Gozaburo and made a bet that if he won, he'd also adopt Mokuba. That's why Mokuba stated Seto "set up a cheating game" after Seto won. That's it.
Seto didn't develop a mindset before Gozaburo appeared. He changed on the day he met Gozaburo when he saw an opportunity. Then it got worse living under Gozaburo. To reiterate, you used anime information, which is not canon to Takahashi's source material.

    • @rob19ny
      @rob19ny Рік тому +1

@@hungerxhunger2548 Please do not spread misinformation. It's not canon at all. Takahashi did not approve anything because as a MANGA-KA, especially in the 90's and 2000's, he was not involved with the anime adaptation of his manga. Once the anime is decided to be made, everything is left to the anime staff. The only confirmed involvement Takahashi has ever had with his anime adaptations (1998 and 2000 series) was with the original 19998 anime. Takahashi stated in an interview back then that he went to the recording session and talked about his experience there. Next, Megumi Ogata (original voice of Yugi/Yami Yugi) stated in her tweet after Takahashi passed that she heard it was Takahashi who recommened her to voice Yugi/Yami Yugi. This holds weight because Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball manga) recommended that Masako Nozawa be the voice of Goku back when Dragon Ball anime was decided. That's literally the extent of manga-ka's connection to their anime adaptation. Takahashi did not get involved with the Yugioh anime until GX, where he created the setting of the story and the main character (plus monster designs), after being asked to do it. GX had no source material manga, which is why Takahashi became involved.

It all ties back to Kaiba's philosophy of "winning is everything"
In his mind, if you're not strong enough to do something on your own through your own efforts, then you don't deserve it to begin with.
That's why he's so adamant about being tough on Mokuba and teaching him to only trust in himself.
Because Kaiba clawed his way out of poverty through his own cunning and skill.
But ,Yugi/Atem are the only exception to this rule.
No matter how hard he tries he can never *genuenly* surpass them.
Its like an unstoppable force going against an immovable object.
And this constant deconstruction of his ego and philosophy nearly drives Kaiba crazy in his obsessiom to duel Atem one more time. Just one more duel to prove that there is nothing he can't overcome
But, eventually, Kaiba is forced to concede to the fact that he can't always win everything on his own. That sometimes you *do* need people you can rely on, lest you find yourself all alone.

I think I can answer this question. Kaiba sees Atem as the closest thing to a friend in his world. It's like Vegeta when Goku was dead for 7 years. He felt lost. His only purpose was to surpass his rival and now he's gone. Never able to prove his worth. But with them gone, their goal in life is too. Atem and Kaiba pushed each other constantly and this whole movie was a pull on the heartstrings. Kaiba needing that closure. And in a way he finally gets to hang with his friend again in the end.

Only stating this because you said "Duel Monsters series". The Dark Side of Dimensions is a manga canon made by Takahashi for the 20th manga anniversary set after his original manga and Transcend Game. Both 1998 and 2000 anime adaptations altered his story and characters so severely that the original series has at least 3 different canons.
Takahashi canon: Yugioh manga titled "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (343 chapters; very dark involving death, cursing, middle fingers blood, fanservice) > Transcend Game manga > The Dark Side of Dimensions
Toei canon: "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (Series 1: loosely adapts 1st 59 chapters; leaves out a lot of chapters and adds original anime story and characters not in the manga; still dark with fanservice remaining close to the vision of the manga)
Gallop/Konami canon: "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters" (Series 2: loosely adapts chapter 60 to 343; altered the manga story and its characters and added original anime story in manga arcs; has to promote card game so its a childrens series in comparison with manga and Toei) > GX > 5D's.

Takahashi explained in an interview why Kaiba was obsessed with Yami Yugi (not Yugi) and their rivalry. Gozaburo ingrained into Kaiba that losing a game means death. After Gozaburo died, Kaiba had no one to challenge him in that way. Months later, he faces Yami Yugi and learns of the Yami no Game during that battle. Yami Yugi stated that the loser with experience a Penalty Game similar to death. Kaiba becomes fascinated because he just found the person who reminded him of Gozaburo that he can play such a game with. After experiencing the Penalty Game, Kaiba becomes obsessed with Yami Yugi. He creates DEATH-T and creates the Battle Box, which created visuals to give the loser the experience of death.
All in all, Yami Yugi is Kaiba's one true rival. No one can else satisfy his urges. And as we know in the manga's story, Kaiba knows the difference between Yugi and Yami Yugi, which is why in the last chapter of Duelist Kingdom, Kaiba tells normal Yugi to "tell the other Yugi that our battle isn't over" and he envisions Yami Yugi when he says it.
