Hey, this dude trained me when he was a sergeant. Definitely was my favorite combat instructor.
Hell yeah. I appreciate that man. Those were the best years in my career. I miss it 🤙🏼
TRUTH!!! You wanna succeed? Listen to the Old Dogs!! This Old Dog, 0331 from the 80’s & 90’s, is here to tell you, TAKE CARE OF YOUR FEET!! I went one step further. I went to an Orthopedic clinic in San Diego and got custom fit inserts. Best $300 I ever spent!!
I graduated from recruit training 3 days ago and this video is going to help me so much
Exactly the reason I do it! Glad I could help! 🔥
I graduated bootcamp recently but torn my acl and meniscus. Im waiting to recover and go to mct. Thanks for the advice.
Best of luck!
dam bro i tore my acl and both my meniscus 3 weeks before basic training
how did you recover
Whish I have seen this before 😔 my Marine came home with a swelling foot..after MCT..thank you for sharing this information 🙏
I’m sorry to hear but these tips also reign true throughout his career too so not all hope is lost
Great advice Gunny. I went through MCT in Sept 2010.
Nice. Always glad to help. Although that was a long time ago, what would you have added to the list if anything ?
March 2010 here.
@@TSYONTZ Best advice is to ditch most of the crap from boot camp and actually listen to your instructors and retain as much as you can. Your instructors aren't DIs, talk to them on the hikes back to the barracks because that's basically the only chill time you get with them.
LOL....90 to 96.....We had "Jungle boots" and "Black Leather" Vietnam era shit! Wish I had what you guys have today! Listen to this Marine kids! He speaks the truth! Best advice I ever got was from my top. He was Vietnam Marine and FEET, FEET and FEET! WAS ALL HE DRILLED IN OUR HEAD! Good video brother!
Former army guy here. I was someone that never wore long socks, ankle socks were my shit. But taking care of my feet with good ankle support and solid soles were my savior in training and combat. Follow what he says and take care of your feet! My favorite boots were a pair of Rockys I had almost three years before I had to replace them
I wish I have seen this video earlier. My daughter is at MCT right now I just sent her this helpful information. Thank you for sharing.
My recruit is doing The Crucible next week! I took some notes from your video and will tell my son to buy and do what you recommend. He's only 18 years old and doesn't have financial responsibilities yet, so the boots, socks, and insoles are a great investment! I love all of your videos!
i tried to drill it in my sons head about his feet my dad was in korea he always taught me to take care of my feet hir moto was take care of our feet and they will take care of you!
Should do a whole video on being a combat instructor
Perfect timing as my son finished the crucible yesterday and earned his US Marine title. Thank you for your great information. Any recommendations where to buy these items?
You can find everything at the PX on any base. They’re easy to find.
@@TSYONTZ took the asvab 4 times I studied for almost a month but I can’t pass it I got a asvab book for dummies but it doesn’t help can I please get tips anything will help I’m 20
@@Keeli614 your fine I’m dumb asl and I’m outside in the field right now freezing my ass off🪖
@@Keeli614they have asvab pretests online they are legit pretty simple. Keep going over the math English and reading parts
Wwet the boots through - or, get a small container of Obenauf's when you buy your boots. Heat the boots and apply with the fingers - liberally. Goop it on. Keep applying while the boot is warm and the treatment soaks in. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Now, put them on and do some squat reps. Re-tighten the laces as needed.
Obenauf's does not harm stitching. Break-in will be almost instantaneous, and you will have a very water resistant pair of boots.
There are far more expensive boots , but IMO, USMC RAT boots by Danner are the most comfortabe footwear I have ever owned.
A tight pack is a light pack
If you take anything from this video…get the socks!!! My son did not want them but during MCT he sent me a text about how much more comfortable the socks made the hikes. And the very first thing he bought when he got to his MOS were the Danner boots.
Glad the advice helped 🔥
Perfect vid leaving on the 27th for MCT🤟🏿
Nice! Just in time. Follow these tips and you’ll be just fine 🤙🏼
What are ways that a newly enlisted recruit would be able to take care of family members? Have heard from Marines that the Family Care Plan/Dependent System only really works if they have physical and/or mental disabilities, not if they’re just poor.
Coming from a poor family myself, I want to be able to help my family be in a better spot, but I’ve also been told that the pay grade for a newly enlisted Marine is not enough to take care of a family. What are the best things to do in this case?
I’m currently at mct and we are waiting to go to camp devildog on Monday, do you have any tips for camp devildog to make your life easy there
Do as your told. Be respectful and learn all that you can. Don’t be a douche and stay out of trouble. MCT is easy.
i feel like if i buy all the necessary things at the same time the clerk gonna say "mct?"
I didn't know how to pack my backpack till I went to ITS infantry training SchooI. I went through back in 89 somethings just don't change.
Great tips been thinking of joining MC
Go sit down and talk to a recruiter man. 🔥You got nothing to lose
Alpha Company, where you at lmao
Right here G 😂

Currently on platoon Hold :,(
Here just graduated currently on my boot leave
I’m actually think about reenlisting to be a Combat instructor can you make a video on the pros and cons ? Or at least reply to this and tell me please and thank you 😰
idk dude i wore the same boot socks for 6 years until my dog chewed em and they came from boot.
Those poor feet man, damn haha
I’m actually submitting a package for combat instructor any tips for the school or being a instructor?
The school was fun. You were going to hike a lot. Like a lot a lot. Make sure your PT is on point and you were comfortable speaking in front of others. One of the biggest things was guys not being able to hike well and also not being able to speak in large groups. Take it seriously because sadly some guys did not and they got dropped half way through.
PS: buy some good boots and fresh insoles.
Your videos are awesome !!
Glad you like them! Thanks for the support

Are you able to buy boots as soon as you get there or do we have to wait.
MCT can suck balls if you’re waiting to get picked up. Armory duty 4 on/4 off for 2 weeks sound fun? And then go do all that humpin’ up on the shelf, Mt. Motherfucker at MOPP 4, chased by hordes of bees….lots o’ fun!
Just saying, if you didn’t get fat and lazy over boot leave/RA you’ll be fine, just some sleep deprivation and cold nights in the field. If you’re in Pendleton the hikes are harder than boot but not bad if you just dont get yourself out of shape in the meantime. Good luck devils.
Can you talk about combat engineer officer in a video
I’ll add it to the list 🔥
How is MCT different from Bootcamp now in 2024?
Woukd you perhaps know if you get leave after MCT? Or do you go straight to your schoolhouse
Depends whether or not the school house is backed up or not.
No fucking leave. You go straight to the airport or you pull the most fucked up details you could possibly think of until a slot opens up. Could be a few days, weeks at the most.
Do you get to throw grenades at mct?
should i join teh marines?
Absolutely. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Sit down and speak with a recruiter to explore your options 🔥
@@TSYONTZ ok, ill go talk to one next week, thanks :)
@@DTaze hi I graduated bootcamp not too long ago what state are you from?

I've always called it "rucking" or "ruck marching."
Most companies offer military discounts to soldiers, get that Pro Deal!!
Yep. Generally 10%.
As a grunt here's the best advice I can give you. Your feet are your life so buy the best socks and boots you can, simple. Being cold or wet is nothing but if your feet get trashed you are going to be in a world of pain both physically and mentally. As for new boots use saddle soap on the leather to help soften it. Wear new boots as often as you can before you go on a hump/march with them trying to break in boots on a hike will tear your feet up. Do not use baby powder in your boot your feet will sweat and that powder will turn into balls and do nothing to help you. As for your rucksack/pack you are going to pack it wrong I guarantee it so don't worry about it it takes a lot of humping to figure out how to pack your ruck properly it takes experience. Not every guy packs his stuff the same so don't worry if your load is placed differently.
Another good thing is compression underwear
