If you have ever added the turtle eggs into the simmer about 5 minutes before serving and the yoke is half tender, you would be amazed at the creamy flavor it adds
Heck ya Rus!!! That looked awesome!!! That wasn't as hard as I thought it was to make Sauce Piquante, we are certainly going to do this someday!! Thanks for sharing brother!!
Rus you nailed another one. As for cast iron if it’s seasoned fully and properly it’ll cook anything. Great video. I haven’t had turtle since I was a kid.
Fantastic video, Rus! And what a great recipe! I've never had turtle, but I'd certainly give it a try. But I can get Venison, and maybe one day I'll have to try this recipe out!😋😋😋
Thanks Kevin! Turtle meat is delicious but not always easy to source. I would have rather had fresh but this frozen turtle meat worked out really well. I'm pretty sure you would love this with venison. Cheers!
If your cast iron is well seasoned the occasional tomato dish won't even hurt the thing. It is decent advice for people really new to cast iron though.
LOL, I had to Joe haha. Thanks Joe! Kinda hard to describe the taste. They say it carries the flavor of 7 different meats, but all I know for sure is it taste really good in this sauce piquante
Great video Rus. Have not eaten turtle in 40 some years. Recipe sounds fantastic. Have to make it probably with a different meat. Getting to old to turtle hunt.🙂 They are hell to clean,
We don't get a lot of turtle up here in Eastern Canada, but I could see where a venison version of this would be excellent. Hopefully, I'll be gifted some fresh venison from my son-in-law this fall. - Cheers!
Just catching up on videos today.. bad ass sauce Rus. I'm going to try adding the sausage at the end next time I make a sauce. Never thought about that.
Well, it taste like turtle LOL. Really hard to explain Dwayne. It is said that the meat of a snapping turtle has the flavor of 7 different meats. I don't know about that, but it's mighty tasty. Thanks for checking it out!
Man this ain't how you get the best turtle meat but yeah, I reseason my cast iron every time. We literally just cooked Mexican twice in a row in my big pan and boy does it look rough. Doing a brisket this morning so I don't has to worry yet but yeah, that acid screws the pooch on the seasoning.
Well since I didn't have any turtles crawling around in my yard, buying farmed raised had to work for this video and I must say, it was amazing in flavor. Yeah, I don't ever sweat using acidic things in my dutch ovens. Thanks for watching
Sent to fast My friend.. I never ate turtle before. But I sure have eaten BUFFALO meat , to the tune of about wool pounds over the last 20 years or so.....
I am not vegan or a tree hugger or a liberal or any kind of animal rights activist. That being said I would never kill a turtle ever. It’s your right if choose . I just admire them too much & see absolutely zero need in my life to even consider eating one. The Great Depression is over & I can get by on something else. Some creatures are not for my consumption simply out of respect. We don’t eat horses, cats , dogs & I put all turtles in that category. Go buy a a pound of ground beef. Freaks are eating plant based foods made in factories I’m not going that far but I will never go there.
If it bothers you don't eat it. Each to his or hers own, but alligator snapping turtles are wild creatures, not pets. No more or less important than any other animal, reptile, fish, or mammal we consume but I must say it's much tastier than a lot of meats. If it makes you feel better, these turtles are farmed raised just for consumption. Similar to chicken or any farm animal.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ I understand & it’s a personal choice. I drawn the line & don’t know why I have a feeling about it I also feel the same way about veal. I just can’t do it. But I do enjoy your content. It’s just my thing
Turtle meat really? Seems a bit weird from a european point of view ,but i respect that food culture is different all over the world. Can you buy turtle meat in your local supermarket or where do you get it from?
Yeah, this came from the supermarket. I showed that in the video. It's pretty common down here, but we also eat alligator, crawfish and other weird things haha

Hahahaha the tomato bandit appearance was hilarious! That dish looked delicious. What does turtle taste like?

The last time I cooked that one I used the legs of the green streker head turtles very good eating there👍

Great video Rus. Have not eaten turtle in 40 some years. Recipe sounds fantastic. Have to make it probably with a different meat. Getting to old to turtle hunt.🙂 They are hell to clean,
Thanks Gary! Chicken works just fine for this recipe.
We don't get a lot of turtle up here in Eastern Canada, but I could see where a venison version of this would be excellent.
Hopefully, I'll be gifted some fresh venison from my son-in-law this fall. - Cheers!
Venison is really good done this way. Thanks for watching Garry

Fantastic cook! Would have been cool to see you eat it out of the bowl the turtle already comes with!🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Luis! This meat came in a package, no shell haha
What does turtle taste like? Is there anything it compares to? That looks really good. Cheers, Rus! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️

So good
Nice dish!
I loved you cast iron P.S.A.!
Thank you 😋
25$ per lb it is but i did some years ago for Christmas. It was incredible. Cheers, Russ
Excellent meat for certain.
This is really the alternate ending to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
turtle sounds fishy and tough but im sure YOU will change my mind. 😊
Not fishy at all, and cooked for 3 hours. Fall apart tender! Did I change your mind? 🤓
@@SmokyRibsBBQ yes, now you have to make some for all of us out here, sell it, we pay shipping and i would absolutely love to try it.
Ohhhhh yea

I do them once a week. Thanks for watching

What does snapping turtle taste like? Frog legs? Chicken? Pork?
It's got it's own unique taste. People say that snapping turtle has 7 different flavors of meat. Not sure about that but it's mighty fine tasting
Yep, UA-cam recipe police are real.
Yes they are
I have that phobia I eat with my eyes, if you put that in front of me without me seeing that angry ars Turtle. I'd have a couple bowls of that
Can't tell what it is when it's all cooked lol. Thanks for watching Lance
Sent to fast My friend.. I never ate turtle before. But I sure have eaten BUFFALO meat , to the tune of about wool pounds over the last 20 years or so.....
I'm just the opposite Frank, I've never had Buffalo. One day I will though. Thanks Frank!
Why add sausage and not just turtle.
Cause I like sausage in it. You can do just turtle if you prefer
