    healing and reducing pain in the hands and feet-1- sea salt baths, warm, never hot. 2- massage hands and wrists in spirals- 3- scale hands fingers and wrists using the side of a tweezer and a nail clipper, as you start the process of slimming the sides of the nails and fingers.- you will see and feel the results- gets started and be well ! Thank you very much Dr Ebraheim for your excellent video explaining osteoarthritis of the hands. This video answered all my questions on this that I have been unable to get answered elsewhere! Thank you again for your very helpful explanation! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos as this is the best one I have seen on hand osteoarthritis! Esp. appreciate the info about mucus cysts, I got one of these and had no idea what it was, what caused it, or what to do about it. Now, I do though and am planning to get it removed very soon! I believe mine was caused by pulling the inner sealed ring out of square waxed coated cardboard milk cartons and the pull tab on canned goods. Good to know osteophytes can also be removed. I have been wondering why that has not been presented as an alternative to fusing, etc. Many thanks!

    I have had mucous cysts in the past. I had them surgically removed. The surgeon can remove what’s on the inside of the finger that’s causing the cyst to form. There’s no reoccurrence. I’m concerned about people popping these on their own. There’s high risk of infection of the joint of the finger. Also I have had these nodes on joints for years, and lots of pain and deformation. When they become really painful, I sometimes have cortisone injections into the joints. It is helpful for several months. Things that also help me-warm wax baths, 2 Tylenol & 2 ibuprofen taken together, doing the dishes in hot water, wearing gloves when it’s cold outside-of course, all temp solutions-there is no cure. It is also possible to have joints replaced in severe cases.

      I was tested for gluten and I wasn't allergic to it. I'm always telling myself to drink more water, although I have increased the amount of dairy that I have because that helps to reduce the amount of oxalates in the body. Crystal oxalates found in food that we consume does increase inflammation and a lot more. There is also a paper on PubMed of some research that says that Oxalates induce breast cancer. A majority of health issues are caused by an overload of oxalates. I highly recommend a book by Sally K Norton called "Toxic Superfoods", and yes potatoes and tomatoes from the nightshade family are high in oxalates. @@bella-bee

    This is very helpful information. Thank you. It's always good to have an understanding of what is going on. I had one of the cysts at the base of one nail. My doc lanced it and pushed out the gel. She said it would probably come back. I kept pressure on it as long as I could in the hope that it would not refill. So far, so good, after several years. But the nail is affected and will no longer grow normally.

    I have Heberden's Nodes on my left ring finger next to little finger. I am left-handed and right-handed too. I eat and write with my left hand and do everything else with the right. I have had this node for many years and sometimes it is painful and other times I don't feel it. Sometimes it is hard and other times it is soft. I am 72 and I got this from my mother. When she was alive she had terrible looking fingers with cysts and nodes. My fingers on both hands next to the thumbs curve slightly in towards the middle fingers. I also have a node on my left little finger too. Your video was very helpful.

I played in a blues rock band for 30 years in Australia I was the guitarist and singer Nothing was too hard and I had great fun playing my favourite songs . Now I cant play a ting I cant make the C shape and the F is out of the question So I bought a finger exerciser and i wear woollen gloves to keep my hands warm . I have to say my Doc was not much help The only good thing she did was to prescribe me Voltorol gel which does help were as ibrofofen does nothing . The pharmacist at Boots the chemist tried to tell me that he creams and the gels are all the same He couldn't be bothered ordering Voltarol .My Doc told me that voltorol was different to the other creams So you sufferers out there talk to your doc about Voltarol

      Same. I have to squeeze mine about once a month. It suddenly appeared red and very angry and I noticed the top of it looked transparent! Like a transparent blister, but on a volcano. A drop of clear sticky, slimy, odourless liquid came out, and it healed up and the swelling of the cyst reduced . A month or so later, it was red, angry and sore again, so I squeezed it, and had a repeat of the previous experience. A month later, last week, the same thing happened. It’s not a big deal, it’s harmless, and is a bit of fun. Knowing it’s a cyst changes things, because until the sac is taken out, it will reoccur. I know it could get infected when I squeeze it, and I wouldn’t like any germs getting in there. Thankyou for this explanation, I’ve researched heaps about it, and couldn’t any reference to the mucous cyst, til this video popped up in my feed today. It’s such a clear, informative video!

    Repeated microtrauma caused a boney growth on my index finger. The microtrauma came from pulling on the tabs on the top of cat food tins. It never hurt while I was taking the tops off but must have been so repetitive that it stressed the joint. It’s the only finger I have with the extra bone on it. Now I’m using my middle finger to pull the metal tabs but between the joints and not right at the joint as I did with my index finger. Don’t know if my body will reabsorb the growth over time or not, now that it isn’t being stressed. It’s not sore and bends quite well but it’s a bit unsightly.

    The one on my finger happened after I burnt the finger on the oven, probably why women get them more than men. The one on the bone at the base of the hand under the thumb happened after a few traumas to the palm of the hand. Has a 7 year old a dog bite to the hand, still have the scars. Then when I was 24 I fell over on a plank of wood looking at a property to purchase, a rusty nail went straight into my hand close to where the bite had happened. Hence before I was 30 that bone had increased in size.

    Thank you so much. That was very helpful. For many years, I have had what l now know is a Heberdens' node and a Bouchard's node on the index finger of my non dominant hand. Although l'm lucky in that they're not painful, it has always worried me that it was the onset of arthritis and that using my hands may become difficult and painful. I would love a little more information about their progression. Will the ones l've got get much worse, does having them in one finger mean that l will inevitably develop more in other fingers and, is there anything l can do to slow down their development? Any answers would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

    What is the treatment of Heberdens nodes ?

    • @macmedic892
      @macmedic892 3 роки тому +3

      NSAIDs if needed for pain relief. As it progresses and the cartilage wears away and disappears, a joint fusion is done.
      For Bouchard’s nodes (the PIP joint), the joint can either be fused or replaced.
      Disclaimer: I’m a patient (two DIP fusions, PIP replacements pending) not a doctor.

    I have Heberden nodes on the insides of both my index fingers, had them for about 25yrs and they used to ache/inflame badly. Then during menopause I became sensitive to gluten, once I became gluten free the Heberden nodes stop inflaming/aching & didn’t grow any larger. I’ll add that I was vegetarian for 20yrs and now Vegan for last 20yrs, I’m sure gluten & dairy were huge contributors to any inflammation in my body which is fully absent unless I eat any processed sugars…..
