    Been donating on and off for years now. I remember long before kiosks were available and you had to lay off dairy before donation because the technology was still limited if your plasma was cloudy. The process has come a long way.
    Beyond the monetary help, I've come to enjoy the sense of structure donating gives me. It reminds me to stay hydrated and keep exercise and what I eat in mind through the week. Because if I'm not healthy enough to donate, that's a red flag that I need to take better care of myself before helping others.

    Upon my first visit to this clinic, I fell victim of theft. My Electric Scooter was stolen from the bike rack located in the clinics parking lot, even though I had it chained up. Upon coming to this realization I hurried back inside to be met by a nurse who was apathetic but didn't take down details for a proper incident report and I never even got to speak with a manager before being asked to leave out the side. I'm infuriated and working with the owner of said scooter to file a police report and contact our legal counsel.

    • @SolarAB
      @SolarAB Рік тому +1

      @Kim Sawyer , in case you haven't found your answer yet, here's how I would explain this to my patients or potential blood donors.
      Guillain-Barre is technically an autoimmune disorder, in which your own immune system attacks and damages your peripheral nerves. The symptoms are a consequence of that. Because the autoantibodies are present in the blood, transfusing patients with blood or blood components from individuals with autoimmune disorders can lead to those antibodies attacking the patients' tissues/organs. So people with such disorders are deferred from donating, usually permanently, because for most disorders the autoantibodies remain in the blood for life. Sometimes the autoantibodies are present in the blood for a limited time, but because of the issue I explained, combined with the fact that the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders is not very well understood, it is still considered too much of a risk to take.
      I can't speak specifically to your case, but generally in treating Guillain-Barre a different type of plasmapheresis is performed. It is called "therapeutic plasma exchange" where the patient is hooked up to the apheresis machine and plasma (along with the autoantibodies) is extracted from them, then disposed of, so there is fewer of the autoantibodies remaining in the patient's blood to attack their body.

    Yea it’s suppose to be saving lives yet they treat you like shit and employees have the worst attitudes. It’s like duhh we don’t want to spend the whole day donating and they act like the money we get is coming outta there own pocket they want you to get the least amount possible. They don’t even have real medically trained nurses at the center which definitely shows cuz there attitudes reflects it, it’s just another job to them

      Times change, so do rules. But honestly I don't see this as discrimination. How could it be? You said he called right? They didn't see his face. So they don't know who has acne. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the only requirement. 🤔 So was the rest of the requirements discriminating too? I'm sorry but maybe your friend lied to you or yall both just took that to heart bc he do have acne??? Listen, just tell him to detox and keep his face clean and dry, go in there and donate. The Arlington Texas Grifols on Park Row, their new system is terrible and takes LONGER. $50 for your time is NOT worth the LONG wait! And using the touch screen to sign in takes too long as well and the fingerprint scanner rarely works the first time to answer the question when you come in. Furthering your wait time. Equipment update is much needed.
    And now with the new system, they assign you a number you must use instead of your last four of your Social Security number you already have memorized. Not to mention half the workers in the place seem tried MISERABLE to be working there. And they complain about not getting a break.
    Less wait and more money would possibly be worth donating plasma. Also, note that their facility looks run down inside and out and somewhat unclean. As well their blood plasma equipment seems to look old.
    I hear Bio-Life down the road in Arlington, is newer, nicer, and cleaner. Maybe the wait is not as long and compensation/pay better.
