- A U.S. district judge in New Mexico is holding a hearing Wednesday about Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's recent order to suspend the right to carry firearms. Grisham declared gun violence a public health emergency after two children were killed in separate, recent shootings. CBS News' Lana Zak has more from Albuquerque.

Governors have no authority to suspend the Constitution of the United States. It's really that simple. If you don't like the Constitution, either put in the work to amend it, or get a constitutional convention completed. Yeah, those options take a LOT of work. I see how saying "Nah, I'm just gonna rule by fiat" seems like the simpler answer, but the problem is that it's completely illegal, no citizen will follow it, no officer of the court will enforce it, and the governor herself has admitted that it will do NOTHING to address the problem she claims she's addressing. So other than making EVERYONE angry at you for no good reason, what exactly is the goal here?
Test the waters and garner support for a federal push, happens all the time with Californian "policy"

You can't amend the Bill of Rights. Bill of Rights can't be constitutionally changed, because it outlines, specifically, the things government is NOT allowed to do.
We know. The sheriff did not say all that. On TV he said it was unconstitutional. He was not going to enforce it, because it was unconstitutional, and then added that criminals do not follow the law.

The Governor's unilateral and disturbing executive action will prove counter-productive: her blatant disregard for the rights of law-abiding citizens will only reinforce political divides, and 2A supporters will cite this event as an example of the means by Democrats and their supporters seek total civilian disarmament. Unchecked criminal activity is NOT a public health issue, but it does represent a public safety issue. The Governor's desire to twist the criteria to broaden or justify her powers will have long-lasting implications for that difficult dialogue that still needs to happen.

The governors wishes are not law. Legislators make law as representatives of the people within the constitution of the United States.
Like many states, NM is largely rural red counties. Unfortunately, those of us in the small towns and rural areas are overruled by the blue cities (Albuquerque, Santa Fe and more recently Las Cruces). Most areas of the state do not support our tyrannical Governor and these policies, nor do we comply. Last time I checked, NM had more guns per capita than nearly any other state. We’re all hoping that she just picked a losing battle that will finally get her ousted. She is out of control!

The "gun violence" problem will never be solved by politicians who can not understand that we have a "violance" problem and that guns are only the weapon of choice. It is already illegal for the vast majority of people who use guns for crimes to possess a firearm. Clearly, that group is not following the law. more laws is not the answer! Find the root cause of the behavior, then address that. Please.

Hell, all this time I thought their complete refusal to hold criminals was about depopulation and funding.
Big need, as always, for common sense and right of citizens safety; and fact that criminals manage to arm themselves. Most important should be right of citizens for concealed carry, as last resort, and public calm, to protect themselves in public? How does ban on concealed carry help citizens, and not criminals? One does wonder what some of these elite are on, or what they are thinking, or bad hair day? The need of safety for border residents should be a separate matter?
The Gov should revert back to pub school jurisdiction and mgt of unruly, or unbalanced youth, subj to mental instituions, if nec, to sep them, along w other mentals from school youth and society? This is difficult for progressive humanists to contemplate in todays over tolerant society? Of course, criminals should be incarcerated as a warning to others. This coverage is deliberately misleading to run defense for this “governor”. She banned open AND licensed concealed for carry private citizens while exempting private security.
This means that wealthy individuals and corporations still get to enjoy armed protection in public but that middle and working class citizens with a concealed handgun license would not be legally allowed to do the same.
This order deprives a constitutionally protected right purely on the basis of a person’s socioeconomic status. It is not only an impeachable offense by this “governor” but it is a patently criminal offense by both state and federal statute.
The right question is: how many kids are we talking?
Not much is killing kids in general because kids are typically under supervision and dont live independent lives. Thus, "leading cause of death" is a skewed concept being USED to justify bizarre policy because there arent other metrics like "driving" and "heroine addiction" or "prescription meds" or "living on the street."
How many kids? What were the circumstances? Its clearly not going to be thousands. Its probably not hundreds. So how many is it and what was going on in those individual situations?

The reporter did not answer his question about what supporters of the ban was saying. She showed her bias and I respect the 2nd amendment but I respect fair reporting as well and she did the governor a disservice 😮.

2 - The chief of police in Albuquerque stated this order is unconstitutional and his dept will not enforce it.
3 - The mayor of Albuquerque (a Dem) stated this order is unconstitutional.
4 - The DA in Albuquerque stated this order is unconstitutional and his dept will not enforce it.
5 - The AG for New Mexico (a Dem) stated this order is unconstitutional and his dept will not defend Grisham or the state in court over it.
6 - The ACLU has condemned the order indicating is could potentially result in disproportionate treatment of black or brown people.
7 - A federal court judge just imposed a TRO on implementation and enforcement of the order noting the plaintiffs are likely to succeed in their cases against the order.
8 - Local, state, and federal politicians of both parties have condemned Grisham's order as unconstitutional and overreaching.
In two weeks a hearing will be held, and by all indications, the judge will find for the plaintiffs and fully nuke this order permanently.

In some areas if you are open carrying an assault weapon, you are considered a threat to civilians and treated accordingly.
So is anyone not thinking about why anyone needs a gun in the first place? At this point in life violence is up and no one values the life of anyone. We have a need for security as anyone else but look at the other countries who do not have guns and how much less crime there is. We should be fighting to keep the EPA, education, natural seeded food, health care, ending racism, the environment in general, housing prices, wages, etc.
But everyone isn’t worried about gun access but having one?
People are going to unfortunately commit crimes due to lack of mental stability but getting rid of guns in general should not be a reason to get anyone out of office.

As a gun owner, I believe in a well regulated militia as the US constitution stipulates, not gun anarchy. Every gun should be registered to a certified owner.
