sorry for the mistake in the graphic and thanks to steve for pointing it out. this was obviously the LA Dodgers.
I think someone is confused, screen says Brooklyn Dodgers, but the date was 7/29/69..... should be
La Dodgers.
This is like a real life time machine! How many Dodgers games did I listen to back in the day? A transistor radio under the covers after bedtime!
There will never be another Vin Scully. The greatest ever!
All those commercials for Union 76, Datsun, Farmer John and Olympia Beer. 😊
@@robjaimes8830 I don't remember Datsun commercials, but the other three, for sure! And only two commercials between each half inning, too!
Please find more Vin Scully games. Even a random middle of the season game in a random year. Brings back memories.
Thanks for posting. Actual game date is July 27.
you are right I thought I was crazy but I looked it up.I like to see the box score on baseball ref while I listen to these games and it showed pirates on the 29th.
Another great Vinny game preserved. Thank you. Early in the game he says he wished he had a mike down in the bleachers so you could adequately feel the crowd. The love of the crowd is why Scully became a broadcaster.
Grateful for this broadcast. As a kid, I taped a '71 or '72 Giants game in which first, Bill Singer hit Willie Mays. The 3rd, Singer get dinged by Juan Marachal. It broke loose when he hit Buckner and the benches cleared. I still have Vinny's call of the fight memorized. I would love to find that cassette, or hear that once more. "It all started in the first, when Bill Singer knocked over a statue... he hit Willie Mays... ", Vin summarizes the fighr.
@@papadopp3870 I watched that game on KTTV. Jerry was on TV that inning. Too bad it was before VCRs.
Wow, thank you for this broadcast. I was at opening day at Wrigley Field won by Willie Smith's pinch hit home run in the 11th inning. This game captures the electricity of the fans just like opening day, 1969. I look forward every day to see what is new on my favorite You Tube channel!
These old games have been keeping me sane during the pandemic. Thanks for posting!
Pure joy to listen too, thank you for publishing!
The cubs were in first place, but that black cat ruined everything! Great to her Vinny!
Just love listening to Vin. We sure miss him.
I miss listening to Chick Hearn
Vin Scully is one of my top 10 favorite humans of all time
And look at the time. 2 hours. That is just baseball heaven right there. 2:15 to 2:30 is perfect for nine innings. With this new pitch clock was tested in the minors, this is where the games were ending up. All the same action in 45 minutes less time.
I have truly enjoyed these games. It has been a real treat. Thank you.
This game featured five future Hall of Famers: Banks (who didn't play), Jenkins, B. Williams, Santo and Drysdale. Seven if you want to count managers Durocher and Alston.
You missed Sutton!
@@philbohne8473 So I did. Probably overlooked him because he's a marginal HOFer at best and often behaved like a spoiled entitled brat.
Ha, that's funny! Sutton was a TV announcer for Nationals for a few seasons; I didn't care for him. And he might not deserve to be in HOF due to the awful perm he sported for quite a while 😂
The 69' Dodgers also acquired Bunning a couple of weeks after this game, so we almost had to one more to the total!
@@philbohne8473 Ah yes, that perm. Was a fad for about for a bit in the mid to late 70s but no one told Sutton it was over and he kept wearing it for years. I'm proud to say I did not give in to the temptation.
Really liked your share, thanks, was 17 when this played in Indiana, on WGN, tho
same here,i was 16 soon to be 17 in july of 69
Thanks for.posting these games. i have enjoyed 6 or 7 of these in the last week or so..... More Pirates -- if you can please.
one note though, Vin said this was July 27th, 1969 during first inning of broadcast.
thanks again.
Surely enough you did! They just added two more of those from the 1960 World Series--and the Yankees won both of them (Game #2 and Game #3)!
Indeed it is July 27.
In 1981 I visited my native Long Island and they ran a TV commercial for radio station WINS and they asked this question on it: "Are the Dodgers moving back to Brooklyn?" In L.A. they did have a special Turn Back The Clock event where the current Dodgers wore Brooklyn uniforms for a game (about 2015)! Brooklyn has the Nets and the Islanders!
Don Drysdale's last W!
Around 1971 Vinny took weekday games at Wrigley off. Anyone remember Mike Walden? He worked Dodger roadies In Chicago only.
Yes he was announcer for Superdave Osborne
Vin Scully (PBP) 1-2/4-6/8-9
Jerry Doggett (PBP) 3/7
1:12:03 Jerry Doggett (7th inning)
Vin was the finalist with Pat Summerall to get the play by play gig with Madden, the most desired spot in the business at that time. Pat won and it was the right move. Vin was not happy about it then, but it would not have worked. The Great man works alone. Vin Scully was put on this planet to tell us about baseball games while we listen to the radio. Even on TV, Vin's not the same. He's great, but you can tell the difference. Same with Ned Martin and Jack Buck. Both were good on TV, but out of this world great on the radio.
The Dodger moves to Los Angeles in 1957. Why does it say Brooklyn Dodgers if the game is in 1969?
Remarkable!! To think the United States was heavily into the War in Vietnam during this ballgame. To hear the commercial for men to sign up in ROTC is absolutely remarkable!! It brings the authenticity of what the game of baseball is. The national pastime.
The Dodgers left Brooklyn, NY for Los Angeles in 1958 as baseball ⚾️ expanded west.
Jerry Doggett in his opening comments mentioning that it's Sunday and there are no doubleheaders scheduled, and what a rarity that is. Man, that by itself would tell you this is a very old broadcast even if you didn't know it otherwise.
Mike Dumas The game wasn't even televised in Los Angeles on that day. KTTV only televised road games vs. the San Francisco Giants until 1970. When it became all Sunday road games and all road games vs. the Giants.
@@williamdunphy352 I remember seeing them play at home for the first time on KTTV 11 in '71. (I was too young to have seen the 60s WS home games on NBC) It was the last game of the season against the Astros. They won that night, but so did the Giants, and SF clinched the division by 1 game.
@@oldiesgeek454 KTTV was their flagship station from 1958-1992.
1958-1976-Vin Scully & Jerry Doggett
1977-1987-Scully, Doggett & Ross Porter
1988-1992-Scully, Don Drysdale & Porter
@@williamdunphy352 Yes, I'm aware of all that, but thanks anyway. Doggett was calling the game when Monday hit his big homerun against the Expos. Do you remember the pre-game show "Dodger Dugout", hosted by Bill Welsh, on KTTV 11 games?
@@oldiesgeek454 that was Ross Porter not Jerry
"He has a good fast bowel."
I wish the announcer would stick to baseball- love these games!
Vin Scully tough on Leo. 6:28
Brooklyn? Man. Come ON!
I was going to bring that up as well
Any late 70s early 80s dodgers games?
Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett on the Dodgers radio network.
KFI 640 ? in 69?
Yes. KFI was the flagship station of the Dodgers from 1961-1973.
Vin said it's the 27th of July
Didn't Drysdale retire after this game? Vinny in his prime. Best radio baseball announcer ever. On TV his talents not put to best use.
Douglas Lowe lo
He retired Aug 5
Double headers on Sundays were a normal thing??
Yep.
... and they weren't twi-nite doubleheader were they emptied the park and charged a new admission. They were 2 games for the price of one. The Sunday doubleheader was common in Baseball for years. Sunday and "The National Pastime ".
The date should read 7-27-69. The date noted, 7-29-69, is the Cubs vs Giants, of which an audio recording also exists.
hi Foster if you have the recording would you please post it, it would be nice to hear thank you.
@@MKisJ I would gladly share it, but I've never uploaded anything to YT. I also have a 7-14-69 Cubs - Met's game, another that is not widely available. Why, I do not know.
If I figure out how to do that, I'll share them. If you want a copy I'll send em to you. Let me know.

This was the annual"retro" game when the Dodgers wore their '57 Brooklyn uniforms
Not true. Teams didn't have alternate or retro uniform gimmicks back then. Simple white at home, grey on road.
Umm..No. Dodgers never wore retro Brooklyn uniforms until 2011, when they had a promotional gimmick for 6 weekday home games.
Sorry, Vin, but the Amazing Miracle Mets went to the WS, and the Cubs went to the golf course.
Correction, this game was played on Sunday July 27, 1969.
Brooklyn Dodgers did not exist in 1969.
Obviously, you are correct. I can't change the graphic after the upload, though. I made a mistake, as others have pointed out, with both the brooklyn thing and the date. My apologies.
@@ClassicBaseballontheRadio no worries man. Sorry I pointed it out. I don’t want to be that guy. I’m a Giants fan so thanks for the voice of Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons. Thanks for your efforts.
