Most medical advancements we take for granted today had derived from animal testing in some way. Given in this case is such an invasive procedure so close to the brain (where that’s the last place you want a infection) it was inevitable that a device designed for a human would kill animal test subjects. The humans that will qualify for this procedure would have to have an extreme disability where the potential outcome out weighs the risk.
