The Byrds not only pioneered folk rock, they were onto psychedelia from the beginning ( Eight Miles High ) and country rock ( their '68 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo ) . Incredibly influential yet have ver really got the recognition they deserved, Sadly only two original members Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman still alive but both still working and touring.
Originally the song was written by Pete Seeger at the end of the fifties and released in 1962 on an album. The Byrds receorded it and released it as a single in 1965 and it became a huge hit. You were right about the lyrics : comes from Ecclesiastes 3: vers 1-8.
And here is a video of Pete Seeger performing this song of his in a duet with folk singer Judy Collins......from the early 1960's: ua-cam.com/video/n0xzyhoeu1Y/v-deo.html
Your wonderful smile, your sparkling eyes and a Byrds song - what a great way to start the day. Roger McGuinn is playing the 12 string Rickenbacker guitar, a sound synonymous with the Byrds. In the photos, he’s the one wearing rectangle sunglasses. You should listen to Eight Miles High and Artificial Energy, both by the Byrds. With the latter, it’s more horns than guitar.
Lovely reaction Empress J-J. The guitar you hear is a Rickenbacker 360-12. When the Beatles arrived in America in February of 1964, George Harrison was given the guitar by the owner of the Rickenbacker company (I own 3 myself). Upon returning to England the Beatles began filming their first film 'A Hard Days Night'. George uses the 360-12 throughout most of the movie. When the Byrd's (who were a folk band at the time) saw the film, they were blown away by the guitars sound (John Lennon plays the 6 string model) and purchased their own Rickenbacker guitars the very next day. Roger McGuinn purchased the 12 string model which you hear him play on Turn Turn Turn, as well as many of their hits. Cheers, RNB
You look spectacular in that top! The colors in that top, the background and your makeup really work great together. And your sparkle always shines through. I'm glad you enjoy one of the great songs I grew up with.
One of my favorites! Another fabulous reaction Empress! Your smile is amazing and your energy is tops! Thank you for making my evening while it’s snowing and I’m stuck inside! “A time for peace I swear it’s not too late!”
@@EMPRESSJOYJEAN hi there I just wanted to say i loved your reaction to this rather beautiful melody great enthusiasm and interesting comparison to the beatles keep up the good work. ❤️😊🙋♂️
The guitar was a 12 string. The strings are doubled, some in unison and an octave apart. That's what gives it that unique sound. The Mandolin is similar, having 8 strings. Each set of 2 strings is tuned together at the same pitch.
So much good hippie music came out in the 60’s. The Byrds, Norman Greenbaum, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grateful Dead and the list just goes on and on. So many names to explore. And goodness me, how you look amazingly beautiful today. 😍
It was written by King Sulayman, Specifically, it was Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, from one of the “wisdom books” of the Old Testament, collections of truths and sayings. The words attributed “a season” to a series of opposing actions: “A time to be born, a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap; a time to kill, a time to heal,” etc. Pete Seeger took the text almost verbatim. He added the “turn, turn, turn” to build a chorus and tacked on his own hopeful concluding line for cold war audiences: “A time of peace; I swear it’s not too late.” March 8, 1965 U. S. troops invaded The Republic of South Vietnam, with the first wave coming ashore at Da Nang. This song was released in October, 1965.Unfortunately, it was too late for peace.
The Byrds have many great tunes, their version of Bob Dylan's "Mr; Tambourine Man" is well worth a listen. One of my favourite Byrds' tunes is from their Notorious Byrd Brothers album, called "Change Is Now"
Hi Empress, it is good seeing you listening to The Byrds. Keep up the good work. I know it takes a lot of effort to get a video uploaded. A suggestion for you to do a reaction to. The group name is The Lovin' Spoonful and the title of the song is, Do You Believe in Magic?
Another great reaction to an outstanding song. But if you ever decide to take the lead here’s a list of obscure classics. 1. Fresh Air by Quicksilver Messenger Service. 2. Easy Living by Uriah Heep. 3. Rainy Day Women by Bob Dylan. 4. I’ve Got a Line On You by Spirit. 5. Movin On by Missouri 6. The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys by Traffic. 7. When I’m With You by Sheriff. Try some of these and watch how fast everyone else follows. Thanks for all the joy and happiness that you spread and much love from Saint Louis.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV
I love the 12 string guitar... for another 12 string guitar sound from the same era try a song called "You Were on my Mind" by a band called the "We Five"
Empress doing an old school reaction....The Byrds,Classic stuff..Can you please do a video reaction to the song Give Me Love by George Harrison(George Harrison was the Lead Guitarist for The Beatles. He died of cancer in 2001)...Thank you and have a good day
The Byrds have many other great cuts you should explore. I would recommend My Back Pages. However, if you are partial to songs about dogs, you might like Old Blue.
The lyrics from this song are from the Christian bible book of Ecclesiastes….an Aussie artist Steve Grace does a terrific version of this same song. Thank you Empress!
Ecclesiastics 3 verse 1 through 15. Great band, great era. Not many bands can take a Bible scripture and make it a hit. Good reaction keep spreading the music around ❤️
The Byrds were one of America's top 60's band. Their folk rock was highly influential like Dylan & the Beatles.
👍

You know your guitars. The Monkees put the 12 string to good use too and Micheal Nesmith was an accomplished musician long before the show.
@@cliffhodge6167 Indeed he was. May he RIP. Thanks Cliff. Cheers, RNB
It is so fun watching you listen for the first time to songs that we American Baby Boomers grew up with as kids. Great job!
Now you're going way back in my memories to those old gym dances.

The Byrds ! A classic !
Was a great time in our history for music !

So happy that you reacted to the Byrds. An amazing band and so influential. If you want to do another reaction to them try Draft Morning.
They did a lot of Bob Dylan. Check out Mr. Tambourine Man. Also check out Dylan playing it live at the Philidelphia Folk Festival.

Engaging reaction. The Byrds had several hits and were part of the "Canyon Sound in the sixties.

From the Bible! 🙏✝️❤️ It’s of the book Ecclesiastes, from the Old Testament!

Yes it straight from the Bible but actually it sounds like it could’ve been extracted directly from Buddhism
My husband would like to hear you react to COLD by Chris Stapleton.
Reminds you of the Beatles?????
You have to be kidding, the Byrds were IMO so much better
