To those who aren't aware, this song is referencing the poem "The Raven" by Edgar Poe, in which the raven only says the words "Nevermore". (This might seem obvious to some but I know it only by circumstance, we don't study Poe much in my country).
I listened to this right before graduation and to me, it kinda made the whole ordeal bittersweet. I listened to it again recently and I just found out by hearing the raven and nevermore bits, that it was referencing the poem cuz we had to read the story for my college composition class and I was shocked.
It reminds me of a Scottish tale. "The Raven in red" A young mother let her son go out and play in the snow one winters eve and the boy never came home. She went to look for him in a red cloak so he would see her. She sang to him in the night, but never found him. There has been claims that she still sings for him on winters eves and children fall into the trance of her voice and follow it into the cold, freezing them to death.
I don’t normally comment on song vids but like, I love the fact he’s asking a raven to sing for him, when corvids aren’t song birds. So basically his request is futile, and there’s something so sad about it
Gwentarino Kripperino Well, the poem is about a great loss haunting the narrator, and he doesn’t ask it to sing at any given point, so if that’s what you’re referring to then Im afraid Idk where you got it from. If you mean that it’s about a futile desire then yea that makes sense.
Basically it's an expression of depression when he refers to his old friend and foe in the end. It's an inner struggle to come to facts with an internal struggle and his tiredness for the same song. That's how I see the song
@@paolarivera3925 One analysis I've read of The Raven is that the narrator wishes to be able to see his late loved one once more, in the afterlife, and the raven is telling him that it is not to be. In that sense his request, "can I see her again?" ("nevermore") is futile, as well.
I remember reading something about people who are both superstitious but still admire ravens tend to have the strongest sense of morality compared to people who rather be around other birds, due to superstition
Love that there is a good chunk of people that do not know this song is about the Nevermore poem written by Edgar Allan Poe, who was indeed a talented poet with quite a tragic life.
I think the Raven may actually be himself, or the part of himself that convinces his mind that a toxic relationship is okay, and the progression of the song is him being able to get out of that mindset and becomes angry at the Raven for making him stay in such a bad situation.
This song hits me close in a different way. My best friend for years committed suicide not too long ago and after his sudden death, It felt like I was going insane I could hear his voice almost everywhere, see him in the corner of my eye. It felt like he was haunting me to make me remember what I lost. This song reminds me of trying to get threw or use to his image everywhere. I miss him more then anything but I need to let him go. And I probably sound insane but it helps me cope.

My mom told me a story about a mother trying to get her children’s attention because she was sick and needed help but her children ignored her and were mostly focused on their life’s and screwing around so she turned into a raven and flew away and when the children couldn’t find their mother they went out to search for her but they didn’t realize that their mother was long gone and they would spend the rest of their life’s searching and trying to call out for her. And that’s how my mom traumatized me and my sister
This was how my mom made us cherish her or to make it simple, care about her. It made me and my sister cry, and I do not want to tell this story to my future kids because that’s manipulative
@@russianinvader2560 the song is based on a poem called "Raven" By edgar allan poe The poem is about a man who recently lost his wife, while he was grief stricken and depressed inside his room he hears tapping on his door and he opens it to see nothing, then he hears tapping on his window and he open the window to let in a raven which flies and sits ontop of the door, the man thinks its a message sent from god and he goes and asks the raven wether he will be reunited with his wife to which the raven replies "nevermore" And the man continues to ask the raven more questions about his wife but the raven only replied "nevermore" With each series of question and simple answer given by the raven it eventually drove the man to madness due to his grief of not being able to reunite with his long lost love
