Thank you for recording and sharing. This is so sad. I am from the west coast Portland, but have visited east coast Portland and it’s such a beautiful area. It hurts to see such landmarks destroyed.
This needed to be documented, but what heartbreaking work to film it. Hoping those who lost their homes and everything in it can rebuild their lives again.
It wasn't in the "middle of the ocean" when it was built nearly 85 years ago. I don't think they were talking about climate change back then. Most of us knew it was not a matter of "if", but "when". This beautiful spot has been enjoyed by generations of the original owners, who were mostly ministers and they certainly weren't rich by today's standards. The house our children own is the newest one and it is nearly 100 years old. We have some difficult decisions to make. @@CubicIronPyrite
This was the third major coastal storm since Sept and then two back to back storms in one week alone. There was serious damage all along our coast. Climate change is happening.
It would be worth living there if you could afford to rebuild. I live on the Southern Oregon coast. But I’m 250’ above sea level. I would love to be down closer to the water but couldn’t afford to rebuild. I hope the homes can be repaired.
y'all didn't get the memo? the sea level *is* rising and will continue to do so. And we are talking about 5, 10, 15, 20+ feet over the next several decades (20, 30 years, which is not very long, within our lifetime)
Expert capture, David. A shame to see this destruction to a staid old landmark. QUESTION: Is the sound of the waves authentic, in real time, or is the sound "dubbed-in" to lend more realism? Regardless, this is the best footage of the coastal Maine storm conditions I have seen. Well done.
Great footage! Not sure I would risk my drone in weather like that but people need to see this stuff. Unfortunately, properties like this will eventually become un-insurable as climate change marches onward.
It's not climate change dude. This has more to do with what's going on with the Sun and the degradation of our magnetic shield around the planet...and don't forget the WEF weather manipulators.
Anyone know if this cook house was on someone’s property? Or was it built on land owned by the county. We’re they using it for neighborhood parties? There are many people who try to extend their property by building structures like beach houses covered outdoor kitchens etc etc. it’s gone now.🤷🏼♀️

Where is Malden Island? The only one that I know of is in the South Pacific near Hawaii. Amelia Earhart disappeared near there. This doesn't look like that island though as it's obviously not tropical. So where is it? The only other time I've heard of Malden is a city in Massachusetts.
Sad to see. Mother Nature will always have the last word though. I speak from over 50 years on Alaskan waters and many times holed up on anchor watch in a sheltering bay or cove under such conditions, or conversely, wishing I could have made it into one. Sorry for the owners and the community. Let the renewal begin!
yes, this was an astronomical high tide. However, the water is in general getting higher so, decades ago the worst storms would do some damage but nothing like this. Water is rising.
WTH are you people crying about? Where's all the death and destruction? Looks to me like the people that put up these building did a pretty good job of getting them off the ground just the right amount. Maybe some wet flooring around the edges but pretty amazing none the less. They obviously had a good idea of the high water mark from somewhere in the past. Huh......
I don't think anyone was talking about climate change when it was built nearly 90 years ago. We understood it was in jeopardy and it was simply a matter of when, not if. There wasn't higher ground that it could be moved to as it is a very small island and mostly ledge. The good news is that no one was hurt as no one was there at the time.
Back in the 1930s it probably was. Your glaring inability to have empathy for others speaks volumes about how irreparably your parents damaged you as a young child, janet.

the cookhouse is a community cookhouse for the residents of these two islands. also missing is the bridge between them, the docks and boardwalks.

Builds house on low stilts in the middle of the ocean...seems like a smart thing to do, what could possibly go wrong?

Great footage. These storms are only going to get worse over the years. And not just in Maine.
But so many people ....well republicans, believe whatever Trump says, and HE says that climate change isn't real.
Why? Because of the scam aka global warming?
Man that's heartbreaking...
Mother nature, so fierce and beautiful at the same time, hopefully everyone was rescued and safe.

Did you ever see a Rock Tumbler? These waves turn roads into tumbled rocks like a Rock Tumbler does to stones.
Go fishing right off the porch. What fun. Waterfront property is great. St. Paul,Minnesota.

I am going with the sound being authentic, in real time.
You can’t get the sound of the waves from the drone without getting the sound of the props, also.
Unfortunately drones do not capture sound that is usable at this time so the answer the sound track is dubbed-in.
That’s heartbreaking!!! I’m so sorry! You can’t beak water or fire.

This property is owned by a yaught club and used as summer homes.
what exactly is expected when you build your house in a surf zone.....asking for a friend
Is this footage from the initial storm that took the dining hall down or is this from another storm?
what happens when you leave the room and dont turn off the light
It is exactly the same on the West Coast.
People that wanted to have a house by the ocean are finding they are having a house on the ocean.
They still got the view.
I love this area, All the housing sewer goes directly into water right outside your house.
Were swimming in poop.
Nope. We have our own sewage treatment facility.
Can't imagine why those structures were not built on pilings set at least 10 feet above the highest sea level recorded in the past century.
It's all beautiful until your house floats away
Well, ocean rise is inevitable. Might want to think about increasing the elevation of those houses when the weather permits.

Sea levels rising
You get storm surge with high tides and build you house at sea level shit happens.

If the ocean really wanted to, it could swallow up the whole west and east coast with ease. Then, Las Vegas would be beachfront property.

All built on the melted remains of another structure.

Sad thing is they can buy flood insurance, which is subsidized by tax payers. Another example of welfare for the rich.
