One time my freshman year I was in world geography with a BUNCH of guys and a male teacher (there was only 5 girls) and my friend had her period and was asking to go to the bathroom but the teacher wasn’t going to let her so she whipped out her tampon and said “I have to change my tampon” and just walked out of the room and I’ve never seen so many shocked faces in my life it was great 😂
I have such a similar story I was going to put down here! In geography (snap) one of my friends wanted to go and she wasn't allowed by a male teacher, and she grabbed her bag to go and he told her she could go but she had to leave her bag. So she just announced "I'm on my period", and he was like "Oh shit, go. Take everything, go go go". She put the absolute fear into him with the P word!
oh my god she's my hero! I remember in middle school and high school teachers always allowed girls to go to the bathroom, and I remember one male teacher even saying something along the lines of "oh girls will always be allowed to go to the bathroom but boys won't because they don't bleed once a month." and I lost my shit😂
Some medical info from a medicine student for any "how to deal with cramps" people :) Paracetamol actually doesn't work all that well with period pains for a lot of people. Other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen have been shown in studies to work better. And also, for anyone who's having really bad cramps, like the "can't walk/throws up/cries in the shower/have to stay home" kind of cramps, you reallly should get checked out for endometriosis! Cramps like that really are NOT normal (as in, something you should just have to deal with), and it's often caused by endometriosis. A disease that's incredibly common (around 10% of women has it) but very, very overlooked by doctor's in most countries. But there is help to be had!
I’d have like, a tumultuous week and I’d think I was slipping back into depression or something and then my period comes and then you go “Oh. Well I was being a bit dramatic.”
i often think about how traumatic getting my period was for me (and probably other people as well) because realizing that your body is ready to bear a child at 11, when you're still a child yourself, is weird! i tried to fight a lot in the beginning and was super scared to use pads in case my ma would notice them missing... then somehow i matured out of it and became very vocal about periods, something that my boy classmates weren't particularly cool with... i fought my internalized shame by never hiding my pads! periods are still a pain in the ass, but i love being vocal about them :)
Ok so story this girl in my class was in form and she asked the teacher to go to the toilet and he said no, so she said that she was on her period and he said "You have to control it"?? And all the girls EXPLODED and she was shouting at him across the room and he said "It's your responsibility to look after your body so it's your problem" and we were all saying stuff like "AND YOU ARE PROHIBITING HER FROM DOING THAT AS SHE HAS BLOOD RUNNING DOWN HER LEGS BECAUSE YOU WON'T LET HER GO!" and after a few minutes she just took her bag and left. She has now changed forms and I'm so proud of her, she will be going places.
The image of women going round offices lassoing tampons by the string has me in stitches!! I remember at my last work space having to go to an outside toilet in which I discovered there was no sanitary bin and having to awkwardly ask my male 42 yr old boss if he could get one....then hiding tampons up my sleeves...a tad more difficult in summer though!
I think the taboo thing about tampons is more to do with any boys present rather than girls. A lot of girls I know aren't bothered in the slightest about other girls seeing them with a tampon, but they don't want the boys to know. The best way to fix this, in my opinion, is to get society changing and better educate boys about periods etc (which I know will take time but hello education system you could still make a start).
Becca just last night I had to ask my (female) friend for a tampon when my boyfriend was also in the room and when she handed it to me, we both kinda instinctually tried to hide it which I quickly realized was ridiculous, firstly because why should we try to hide this sort of thing and secondly, the male present was my boyfriend like he’s even seen my vagina hahaha and he hears me complain about cramps every time I get my period!
Right! It seems crazy but it's just instinct, which is kind of sad (screw you, society). I'm sure your boyfriend is totally chill about it all, especially if he gets it that periods are crap
I'm actually pretty grateful for the way it happened in my case- got my first period when I was quite old, and at home. Think that's pretty much the best case scenario. Love the rapport between you girls!
i guess i'm lucky because being on a period is a whole meme in my school XD whenever my classmates and i meet in restrooms and somebody starts rustling with that horrificly noisy pad wrap we just have a little lol about it, we discuss all the "girly stuff" a lot actually and help each other, it's never a problem borrowing a pad or even painkillers if your crumps are bad. i feel blessed and very comfortable in our supportive community :3
im really lucky because my friendship group (which also has 3 guys) talk REALLY librally about periods. like two of us are on the pill, a lot of the time we synch up, and we just chat about it and keep like a stash of painkillers and pads and tampons around in case any of us needs it. its a really good environment to be in and its also really great to have found guys who arent grossed out by the whole thing lmao
This was so great!!! Love period chats and talking to any(every)one about periods!! I’ve also made it a point to not hide my pad or tampon when I go to the toilet on my period at sixth form, just to stop the stigma👊💁🏼♀️
I enjoyed this video, definitely bringing something to light that doesn't get talked about enough! For the next time you do a video about periods, it would be really good if you could make it trans inclusive e.g. people who get periods, rather than girls/women :)
I've always wondered if you'd do a chatty period/PMS video and it made me quite happy to see this in my sub box. Personally, I always struggle with mine because of a blood condition I *unfortunately* have causing me to miss school regularly, I've tried countless medications and I'm now considering trying a new bc pill because the one i'm on currently sucks tbh.
Oh my God okay so I was in high school, like freshman year so we were about 15-16ish years old and I was talking to two other girls in class during free time, one of which had never had her period before. So we're explaining and answering all of her questions and end up dispelling rumors about tampons and explaining how they work and everything. My male teacher overhears us and yells at us that that wasn't appropriate conversation, when he regularly explained sex terms to underage girls 😐
Yes! Me and my girlfriends are really open about it, so we educated our guy friends and they are super sweet about it. once I was at this guy house with a bunch of friends and I asked my girlfriends quietly if they had any tampon, and my guy friend overheard us and literally ran upstairs screaming he knew where his sister kept her pads and tampons and he literally brought downstairs 3 packages of tampons and he was so enthousiaste about it it was so funny. Idk just a random anecdote haha
Tip for schoolgirls trying to discreetly take a tampon to the toilet: most blazers have inside pockets; when you're at home the night/morning before put some in there ready ❤️ you can always keep one in there permanently as well incase you start unexpectedly xx
my friend group and I were all really excited to get our first periods. 3 out of 4 of us got it within a month or two of each other and I vividly remember texting my friends as soon as it happened. I mean, I'm glad we were so open about it and proud to "become women" but almost 9 years later and I'm definitely never excited to face cramps, headaches and mood swings anymore. Oh, to be young again! :) And yes! to not being ashamed of carrying tampons/pads with you! Have been trying to be more confident about it for years now, but the stigma is strong, unfortunately. I'm not a person that gets embarrassed easily, and still I find it hard to be open about needing to change a tampon of all things. :(
At my elementary there was a (secret) "period club" and only girls with their periods were allowed to sit in a certain area of the playground during lunch (it wasn't mean or bullying or anything). It was started by other girls in my close friend group after 2 of them had gotten theirs. It was weird because slowly over the year a girl would get to "join" the club so those of us in the group who hadn't gotten ours yet eventually started to become a smaller group. I got mine somewhere in the middle of the group of girls, but I remember being torn between hanging out with the "period club" and the other girls because my very best friend hadn't gotten her period yet. I feel sort of proud because I remember being a messenger back and forth between the two groups and I one day announced to the "period club" that we should all just hang out as one group again because the whole point was to help each other out with how to deal with our periods. I think my experience was far less shameful than many other women experience and it was seen as "cool" (this was around the year 2000) to have it. Most of us, also, had older siblings so maybe it didn't seem as taboo to us to talk about as friends. In terms of my first time, after my older sister got hers (she's a year older) my mom casually just put a package of maxi-pads (and by that I mean MAXI) in my closet and we didn't really speak about it. There was always feminine products under the bathroom sink (super maxi pads and liners...that was all haha) so it just wasn't really discussed and I don't think I actually told my mom that I got it although she was probably able to tell by the laundry and needing to restock the cupboard. I also recall we got free Tampax "learner packs" with a liner and a tampon in class and I feel like I grabbed more than my share of samples because I was too embarrassed to put "tampons" on the grocery list until I was in jr. high.
If you want to hide your tampon/pad and you're wearing short sleeves you can also put it under your bra strap (if you're wearing something like a tshirt, not spaghetti straps). It is hidden and it stays in place so you don't have to hold it. The only issue you could have it getting it there, but if you're a bit sneaky it can easily be done
I got my first period when I was 12 years old and to be honest even now - 10 years later - I'm still really annoyed every month. Otherwise this means I'm not pregnant. Which is not too bad at the moment. But my favourite story with periods is the one time my best (boy)friend came to me and just asked me to tell him everything about periods. At first I laughed so hard, but then I realised that many boys just don't know. And it should be normal to talk about this topic and not to hide a pad/ tampon on your way to the bathroom.
I'm in year 11 at school and we were mentioning periods about something in school and all the boys seemed to get really squirmish over it so now we're extra loud in talking about our periods (we used to just talk about it in this one class we have which is all girls) yano just a little anecdote that I felt was random to this convo in some way. but I feel like more girls should stick together in talking about it to make it less taboo
I used to work really hard to hide my pads when I went to the bathroom because at least among the people I knew, using pads was weird and gross. When I got to college, I realized this was dumb and tried harder to not care if someone saw I had a pad in my hand. Now, I have a pouch for my period products, and I purposely chose one that's bright silver because I'm not ashamed to be on my period, and I don't try to hide it (anymore).
I have a blood disorder and I got my first period at 11 and with in about a 2 months of having it it become super heavy ( it was heavy the first time but I didn’t know that I thought that’s how much everyone bleeds) but it became so heavy and within a few months after that I was so sick with anemia and bleeding so much that I couldn’t go 2 hours without changing pads. And I could barley get out of bed. After about 2 years i finally got on birth control to stop my periods completely since having my blood disorder was what was causing me to bleed so heavily. My disorder is very very rare and I went to many doctors who told me they would not prescribe me birth control because I needed to have a period, and that I was completely fine when I could barley even focus because of how low my iron was. Being a very young and being told that you have a blood disorder and if you get cut or jurists that you could bleed to death within a short time and having such awful periods ( that lasted for 2 sometimes 2 1/2 weeks at a time every month) and being told that they weren’t going to give me birth control to stop my periods was very traumatizing. I’m glad to hear more women speaking out about periods and making it known that it’s not awkward or taboo. Especially for girls who have heavy periods and need to have more products or even birth control like myself. I’m now 18 years old and haven’t had a period 6 years.
It helps a lot to exercise before getting your period and in the beginning of it. At least for me it makes a huge difference. Most of the time I don‘t have take painkillers because I have almost no cramps. Also hot water bottles and hot showers are very helpful.
once was unwrapping a pad and the wrapper slipped through to the next cubicle and this stranger just gave it back to me underneath- turns out it was one of my teachers lol
Crazy ex girlfriend is my favorite show ❤❤ i did not expect you to mention it, but I'm so glad that you did. I also love big mouth. On other note, I'm a man but obv, sanitary products should be free or at least more accessible and in every public bathroom.
i had a friend who would always make me check her butt at the end of a lesson when she was on her period. She'd just get up, stick her butt in my direction and be like "am i good?". Definitely a much better option than being paranoid about leakage all day.
Started my period at 13 and had horrible cramps. Two years later, and I was still having my period for 10+ days and regularly faiting and missing school, I was put on a pill. I have to take an ostrogen free pill because of a liver condition I have, so basically I haven't had my period for three years.... (ostrogen free pills are those that you have to take every. single. day)
Merle Karpenstein I also am on the pill to stop my periods. I’ve not had one in 6 years due to a rare blood disorder I have. It is hard to take the pill every day but no other method is as effective for periods. It’s a real struggle but definitely don’t be ashamed! Its so nice to find someone else who uses the pill to stop their periods because I don’t know anyone else who has to do that. Keep on keeping on!
I'm in S3 and I am v e r y open about my period and so are a lot of my friends so much so that we have started to teach are boy friends all about them and now we have open conversations about them all the time which is, I think anyway, pretty damn good.
one time i got my period in class but i didn't notice really because i was sitting down, but when i got up it was the worst feeling and it looked like i was pissing myself in blood
My period started when I was 11 or 12, and I remember in year 7 I leaked over a school chair because I was too scared to change my pad during school time. Someone noticed and I just tried to shrug it off by saying it was ketchup 🤣🤣 what!! Hahaha
crazy ex-girlfriend is sooooo good and criminally underwatched. it's one of those shows that everyone who's seen it thinks it's amazing but it barely gets any viewers.
Could the hidding the tampon thing be a little bit cultural? I'm Spanish and it's never been an issue in here. Girls talk about periods with their firends and partners, no matter their gender. It might be a little awkward when you are a teen - everything is awkward when you are a teen. But I've never seen somebody hidding their pads or tampons. You usually just go like "shit, period again, oh well" get your pads, go to the bathroom and your coworkers never mind. I'm curious to know if somebody else had this experience or it's just me!
Anyone have any recommendations for what to put your pads in, when you're taking a bag anywhere? I need to find a small purse or something but they are either too big or too small, or expensive. I also like to have about 5 or 6 pads with me, as I have long days at college.
yes it’s not great but it’s something. that one pad could be the thing that helps that girl go to school and although it would be amazing if always gave out a million pads for every packet bought they still need to make a profit or that movement wouldn’t be a thing in the first place
i often find myself hiding a tampon because i thing it groces other people out liek men for the most part...idk itS' weird thoug and we shoulnd't do it but i just really don'T wanna make other people feel uncompfortable...
You need to try menstrual cups instead, it`ll change your life(change mine already!). Always run a nice campaign but pads and tampons is just more trash you produce. And pretty much no one except on UA-cam speaks about menstrual cups 'cause they mean you`ll not spend so much money on pads
I HOPE THIS DOESNT JINX IT but periods for me havent been that bad. I only get mild cramps and maybe acne occasionally but like other than that it doesnt affect me that much. Like all these people have horror stories and I'm like meh.
Don't get me wrong, it's good to talk about topics like this and I understand the reasons you partened with this company, but their products are actually not the healthiest and they contribute a lot to pollution. It's a bit weird seeing you being concerned about the envoirment and then supporting such a brand.

Some medical info from a medicine student for any "how to deal with cramps" people :) Paracetamol actually doesn't work all that well with period pains for a lot of people. I’d have like, a tumultuous week and I’d think I was slipping back into depression or something and then my period comes and then you go “Oh. Well I was being a bit dramatic.”
SAME
EVERY DAMN MONTH
Feel you

moscardo that’s so great!!!
moscardo the realest thing ive ever read
"You know when you just want to eat loads of food and cry for no reason" me all the time 😂
i am in fact obsessed with Lan oh my lord
Thank you for working with that campaign, and for helping to break the taboo!

What perfect timing! Just started my period today, and I was in desperate need of some great Lucy Moon "feel good content" :)
The story of bleeding on all the chairs really got me laughing 😂

It helps a lot to exercise before getting your period and in the beginning of it. At least for me it makes a huge difference. Most of the time I don‘t have take painkillers because I have almost no cramps. Also hot water bottles and hot showers are very helpful.
Ooh I should definitely try that!
i always kept tampons in my glasses case because my glasses are always on my face
Allison Cuesta that’s smart
Genius
I proudly take my tampons for a walk to the restroom when I'm on my period. no shame in that, it's natural! :)
Wow really proud to see this and to be apart of your channel
Aw this went by so quickly! totally loved it
Highly recommend crazy ex girlfriend!! So glad you mentioned it!!
I might have a crush on atlanta 🙊
I fancy Lan so much, help 😭
One time I was on my period and in chemistry I cried during a video we were watching bc it was really pure idk life is crazy
once was unwrapping a pad and the wrapper slipped through to the next cubicle and this stranger just gave it back to me underneath- turns out it was one of my teachers lol
bahahaha amazing
Crazy ex girlfriend is my favorite show ❤❤ i did not expect you to mention it, but I'm so glad that you did. I also love big mouth.
On other note, I'm a man but obv, sanitary products should be free or at least more accessible and in every public bathroom.
I started my period aged 13 at my best mates house on a sleepover. I remember I slept on my coat because I was so scared of bleeding through
I have FEELINGS about Lan.
You three should definitely do a podcast. Get on that bandwagon!
i had a friend who would always make me check her butt at the end of a lesson when she was on her period. She'd just get up, stick her butt in my direction and be like "am i good?". Definitely a much better option than being paranoid about leakage all day.
yaaas love the runaways
i love videos like this
I don't sneak my pads anymore when i'm at school, etc. Almost every girl have periods and men know what this is so ther is no reason to be ashamed.
Hiding a tampon in my bra really helped me during school
watched this on the loo to procrastinate cleaning my diva cup 👍
Can you do more relationship advice with Arden or your flatmates again??? It was so helpful!
YASSS I ADORE YOUR FLATMATES X
Yes! Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is such an underappreciated gem!
Can Lan come back in the (somewhat) near future to your channel? lol
please can you talk about hormonal contraception at some point, totally in a rut
I'm in S3 and I am v e r y open about my period and so are a lot of my friends so much so that we have started to teach are boy friends all about them and now we have open conversations about them all the time which is, I think anyway, pretty damn good.
💫 *_true queens_* 💫
I was 9 it was the summer before 5th grade and my mom took me to target and let me choose one clothing thing i wanted and then took me out to dinner.
one time i got my period in class but i didn't notice really because i was sitting down, but when i got up it was the worst feeling and it looked like i was pissing myself in blood
I have a crush on Lan.
Oof oof oof 🖤🖤🖤🖤
My period started when I was 11 or 12, and I remember in year 7 I leaked over a school chair because I was too scared to change my pad during school time. Someone noticed and I just tried to shrug it off by saying it was ketchup 🤣🤣 what!! Hahaha
nice videos
I always keep tampons in a pouch in the waistline of my trousers lol
crazy ex-girlfriend is sooooo good and criminally underwatched. it's one of those shows that everyone who's seen it thinks it's amazing but it barely gets any viewers.
I love youuuu❤️❤️❤️
YAS and my period started today :D
Could the hidding the tampon thing be a little bit cultural? I'm Spanish and it's never been an issue in here. Girls talk about periods with their firends and partners, no matter their gender. It might be a little awkward when you are a teen - everything is awkward when you are a teen. But I've never seen somebody hidding their pads or tampons. You usually just go like "shit, period again, oh well" get your pads, go to the bathroom and your coworkers never mind. I'm curious to know if somebody else had this experience or it's just me!
‘Period Sex’ is the shit haha
This video was posted on the day my period started. Coincidence?!?!??
Everyone has the hots for Lan and all i can say is: same
Sometimes, if i’m feeling awkward about tampons, i use the injectorless ones and put them in my bra? Like the small space in front or on the sides.
Saame I was waiting for them to say that but they never did!
Anyone have any recommendations for what to put your pads in, when you're taking a bag anywhere? I need to find a small purse or something but they are either too big or too small, or expensive. I also like to have about 5 or 6 pads with me, as I have long days at college.
1 pad per pack bought? So generous...
Yeah, it's pathetic. They should be giving out menstrual cups instead.
yes it’s not great but it’s something. that one pad could be the thing that helps that girl go to school and although it would be amazing if always gave out a million pads for every packet bought they still need to make a profit or that movement wouldn’t be a thing in the first place
i often find myself hiding a tampon because i thing it groces other people out liek men for the most part...idk itS' weird thoug and we shoulnd't do it but i just really don'T wanna make other people feel uncompfortable...
angel
You need to try menstrual cups instead, it`ll change your life(change mine already!). Always run a nice campaign but pads and tampons is just more trash you produce. And pretty much no one except on UA-cam speaks about menstrual cups 'cause they mean you`ll not spend so much money on pads
Stanislava Korobkova well the campain is for school girls and I don't think that girls as young as 13 are comfortable with that
I HOPE THIS DOESNT JINX IT but periods for me havent been that bad. I only get mild cramps and maybe acne occasionally but like other than that it doesnt affect me that much. Like all these people have horror stories and I'm like meh.
My school is so open about periods lol, the boys dont care tbh
Grade 3 Ballet exam is not an ideal place to have a period aged 13 in pink ballet tights and a leotard!
i really want to get my tubes tied so badly
Don't get me wrong, it's good to talk about topics like this and I understand the reasons you partened with this company, but their products are actually not the healthiest and they contribute a lot to pollution. It's a bit weird seeing you being concerned about the envoirment and then supporting such a brand.
