POWER FEED FOR A MINI-MILL

- Milling machine productivity can be greatly increased by using a power feed. Even a small mill can be used to make it's own auxiliary parts. This video is about the Power Feed I built for my Sieg built mini-mill. The milling machine, drill, and speed controller are available from Harbor Freight Tools
Central Machinery 2 speed benchtop mill/drill (44991)
3/8" corded drill
Drill Master 3/8 variable speed reversible drill (60615)
Drill Master router speed controller (43060)
Great project and video. Just discovered your channel.
Pretty cool & Pretty simple Idea......Thanks
Awesome job for a simplified and basic power driven table. One thing could make it even better is to use a dc geared motor with a control that has reverse voltage and speed control. This would streamline the back and forth process. For making understandable and simplifying the concept, you have done a major service to hobbyists. Thank you for your kind sharing.
I have 4 or 5 old drills with dead batteries. I bet one could be modified for this project
I actually used a cheap corded drill for the purpose of being able to use a separate speed controller but feel free to use whatever setup you like.
@@thingmaker7538 corded drill would be better. No power supply to deal with
Clever.
Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of configuring a power feed on my Grizzly 758 mini mill. I will incorporate some of your ideas in my build. I successfully installed my xaxis after watching your vid on same.
Nice job ! Very clear and easy to follow. Good audio, good stable video (not the epidemic of one hand camera holding shaky video) Great work, I am looking forward for more videos from you.
very well
Does the handle still turn easily with the drill connected all the time?
This definitely seems simpler than a lot of the other videos I've seen which require clutch mechanisms.
There is some resistance from the drill but it does turn fairly easily.
Cool
Well done. I like what I see, and will set mine up like this in the future .
Can you update the link to the corded drill you used? The link you gave us doesn't work.
You can use a corded drill from Harbor Freight tools. Drill Master 3/8 variable speed reversible drill (60615)They have one with the collar for a support handle. That is the one I used and the link is for Amazon's version (which is the same drill). At the time I made the video, I was an Amazon affiliate.
Great video! Very well done! I look forward to seeing more! 👍🏼
great idea
Is that box at 6:40 a drill speed controller kit? How do you reverse the drill? Is it a forward/reverse drill?
The box is a router speed controller available at Harbor Freight Tools . I reverse the power feed by switching the direction switch on the drill.

But, the drill is AC Mains, I can't remember if reversing a Mains drill is possible. I think I've retired for too long now, I am starting to forget things. 😣
Correction: I've just found out, yes you can reverse a mains drill. Silly me. 🙄
But, how did you wire it to make the drill go in reverse? Are there any instructions?

Nice name Suzette. Is it a nickname?
Sorry about having Suzette Kendal's name on my reply...somehow I replied to your question from my wife's account...and that is her name.

Got it. LOL 😄
How much could you make and sell one for?
This project is intended to be a do-it-yourself type thing. I haven't given a lot of thought about marketing power feeds. The components are pretty straight forward. I'll have to give it some thought.
