I sure do miss seeing the southern and n&w high hoods that was railroading at its finest I give anything to see thoses locomotives again and I can with your videos thank you for sharing
Videos like this make me realize how much I miss the old Southern Railway. Thanks for posting. Southern gives a green light to innovations. Southern serves the South.
wow all this footage from years ago!im up there a lot now(once or twice a day) and this area is COMPLETELY differant now.great videos!!!!!!!the trains too dont see em like this anymore!
That is a rare catch indeed seeing a B36-7. I remember one stayed down at the McDonough Training Center, (3819 I think) while its sisters ran off locomotive owed hours to power hungry UP in the late 90s until their retirement.....another fine post thanks!
@benschlechter Agreed! They were starting to get rare when this was shot. Trains 171 & 172 were the main ones that had cabooses at that time. Thanks for watching & commenting!
#2538 was on a local freight in Moyock NC around the year 1985. The line was the original Norfolk Southern railway which was then the Southern, the line extended all the way to Raleigh and then Charlotte NC. They used to have a 10 mile draw bridge that once crossed the Albemarle sound, which was dismantled in 1989! when the Present Norfolk Southern came along, Norfolk Southern brought the Chesapeake and Albemarle railroad through the thoroughbred shortline program. C&A now owns the line from Chesapeake VA to Edenton NC!

@SCL1306 Thanks for watching! Those were re-used from old Alcos that the Southern traded in for the purchase of the GP35's.
No graffiti! Our world was nicer back then
@northgacub Yep, those were some great lashups to see back then! Thanks for watching & commenting!

Good gosh. No wonder there are 5 engines ! Bet it took a long time to put that train together.
So sad that you do not see a caboose on the end of a train anymore.
@lawbench191 Thanks! Glad you are enjoying them.

@pwalpar Thanks, Walter!
The Geep 35's got ALCO trucks from traded in Southern RS-2's as I understand. These video's from the 1980's are great!
@cheechchongfan97 Thanks! Appreciate your watching and commenting, as always!
I have to agree completely with MrCzechers. And also what a great video of such a huge variety of rolling stock. Thanks for posting.
It has the caboose I like freight train videos with the caboose at the end I miss the caboose on the end of freight trains
@happilytaken206 Glad you liked my old video of the Magnolia St. area!
Thanks to technology, all you see is the F.R.E.D. on the end of trains now, plus on two crew members (sometimes 3) on the train.
Wow a old cast p5 horn
Love your classic train videos! When did Southern switch to running short hood forward?
Ns was made to stop in 98 cause off an accident
its a worn out old cast P5
5 engines and 148 units.
2 engines could pull that many cars with ease now
This was back when it was the Norfolk *AND* Southern, not Norfolk Southern.
