The Original Mass Effect's Ending Is MASTERFUL!

- We always talk about Mass Effect 2, and how the ending represents a culmination of all of the games choices to lead up to a heart pounding finale. But we often forget the game that spawned it, the original Mass Effect, in that discussion. The ending is great, and represents a cleaning of the slate for what is to come in the future and setting up the next story to be told in the universe. It doesn't have the complexity of Mass Effect 2s ending, but it features a perfect climax and resolution to a story building the entire game.
From Saren and the Geth terrorizing planets and people, of which you save a decent amount, to the death of a squad member, the stakes are high leading up to the finale. Convincing Saren to step aside, and deciding the fate of the council is the perfect way of finishing this sci-fi tale. Such that you could stop here, and never play another Mass Effect game, and feel satisfied with how the game ends. This is BioWare at the best.

Despite its flaws, ME1 is still my favorite game in the franchise. The tight plot, unique aesthetics and world building, the perfect antagonist and as far as I'm concerned, the best showdown and finale.
I go back and forth between 2 and 1 being my favorite. Whenever I load up 1 that music just ooofff
Not to mention ME1 has one of the greatest end credits songs I've ever heard

Played and finished the Mass effect trilogy for the very first time last week. Late to the franchise and absolutely no expectations whatsoever. One of the best Rpg’s I’ve ever played and now I’m absolutely hooked
The correct choice is to send Anderson to Udina's office. That punch is critical to the story.
I mostly agree my main disagreement is that focus on sovereign isn't the softer option of let them die. While the end result is the same as let them die, the options were effectively 3 fold. 1. Risk the galaxy to save the council, 2. screw the council I hate them anyway, or 3. the galaxy is at stake the we should not risk it for the council. 1 is paragon, 3 is true renegade, 2 is the misshapen jerk renegade that is in too much of the game where they couldn't differentiate between dark side and renegade. 1 & 3 are the real options showing the difference between paragon on renegade, pragmatism vs heroism. 2 is just their basic troll answer they throw in like punching the reporter.
As years go by, the original Mass Effect is taking my spot for the best game in the trilogy, I have always loved the game, but ME2 was always at the top. ME1 was simply building the world and in isolation, Sovereign had more impact than his boss Harbinger. I love the final assault on the Citadel to the Normandy flying off with M4 Part II playing during the credits.

We have fantasies about hot aliens there's no reason to rule out the possibility that they may also have fantasies about aliens
I was playing Shepard as a Paragon for the first half until Vermeier, after Vermeier I had him lose his nerves at the slightest bits of resistance from the Council, cut them off / not talk to them, being a complete asshole to Udina etc. He was just seeing red and wanted Saren's head.
Mass Effect is my all time favorite game. First time i played it, years ago, i lost several squad members in 2 and actually felt a pang of sadness, now, of course, everyone survives, unless the game tricks me. Legion died once, don't know why and just recently, i wasn't able to create a truce between miranda and jack, i chose jack, but Miranda survive anyway. After all these years the game still throws me curves, one of the reasons i love it so much.
Yeah, there was a period of time where I whenever I would play the original game I would swear something new would happen that I never experienced. Obviously these days I played it enough where I know pretty much everything but I still love the atmosphere of ME1. That's what I look forward to everytime I replay it!
