- Oh WOW. I did not realize that Armored Core was like this. This opening movie left my mouth on the jaw and I love this intense prayer that it feels that people are proclaiming to be saved by the mech. This is fantastic stuff - written in this quintessential Ace Combat format. But, I really can't get over this opening cutscene.

White Glint, the mech and pilot in the trailer, is our player character in the previous game and we have the option to side with them or help take them down in a mission and damn are they good. Fitting that one of the strongest possible enemies you can encounter in-game is your former character.
And the number given to him is "9". It is derived from the Raven Era's greatest enemy, the Nine Ball.
While the operator of White Glint is the player character of the previous game, we do not get to use FA’s White Glint in 4, which is entirely new to FA. The original White Glint, which was Joshua O’Brien’s, was a completely different Next.

The theme of Anatolia's Mercenary, a pilot so absurdly skilled they singlehandedly changed the course of a global war, defeating legends both current and former, before disappearing into the shadows, a murky legend of a conflict most floating above the clouds would rather forget. Only to show up years later, the sole and most powerful NEXT pilot of a comparatively small surface faction, in a new and terrifyingly agile machine. It's no wonder the corporations were so hesitant to face him down given his track record, with GA alone owing the vast majority of their success to his actions. I'm just glad it was shown he survived his encounter with/against Strayed.
Watching the trailer for AC For Answer was majestic. Seeing White Glint in all its mechanical glory is a feast to the eyes.

It's been a LONG time, I want to say 10 years but it's probably like 15 and realizing that already makes me feel old, so I don't want to confirm it, and live in the ignorance it's only been a decade...

In Armored Core for Answer lore, a Lynx (called for mercenaries piloting a NEXT which is basically a more advanced Armored Core) fighting an Arms Fort especially The Spirit of Motherwill (colossal mech from the intro) is not "just a mission" for anyone else to take on because it is already a suicide mission engaging them. Despite its high risk, only a few Lynxes lived their tale and even became legends of their own right.
for Answer honestly has my favorite soundtrack in the series. Can't recommend going through more of it enough, tracks like Remember and Someone Is Always Moving On The Surface are pure perfection

Ah, the battle against Spirit of MotherWill is EPIC the first time you do it. While all armored forts are a epic fight, MotherWill has that vibe of being in the intro, and the fight itself being cut into phases. You have to GET to Motherwill first and THEN fight it. Meanwhile you're zipping around in highspeed dogding shots of massive caliber. While any reruns take a bit of the experience, I always liked fighting it for the crafted moment it was.
This song is White Glint's theme. A once necessary force to decide the LINX war. Rescued others time and time again and shot down many. Literal legends around him and his wake in the battlefield. An angel of death, ready to defend his new people and decide the new future. He is also the player from Armored Core 4.
4rth generation Armored Core is a ton of fun, fastest moving in the series easily. The technology is at a peak for AC's as well, hence all the god-like sounding music. It's really nice to see someone reacting to the music and trailers after all these years
Aw man that intro. In the intro, it mixes "4 the answer" and "Spirit of Motherwill" themes.
The Spirit of Motherwill, a walking fortress the size of half a city. And it still cannot bring enough firepower to bear to defeat a single mech (very advanced prototype, but still).
A big part of AC 4s story is about the world remaining military constructing these behemoth war machines called Arms Forts to reduce their dependece on the Mecha Mercenaries. People still hire those very mercs to take down the Arms Forts of other organizations.
Good analysis on this one, never thought of it as a praying song.
I think that in the last part it uses "Great Wall" theme instead of Motherwill's, for some curious reason
It makes sense. The Arms Forts form a Silent Line around the Cradles (flying machines where the entirety of the human population have to live in apartment complexes the size of an economy seat in an airplane). Btw if you get the hidden third gen reference, I would have loved to rent these back when Blockbuster was a thing...
My favorite track in ACFA lately has been "Set the Sunset." Just a gorgeous piece.

You should absolutely take a look at the Armored Core 4 intro as well, which is arguably even more badass.
The way you just described it off the bat as the answer to the prayer, awakening the machine or fighting against something godly. Dark soul vibes lol. Souls always had the Armored Core DNA it just feels so interesting looking back having played them all over time.

The intro on ACFA is 1 of my favorites. It features White Glint Mk2 on an assault against BFF's arms fort Spirit of Motherwhill using the Vanguard Over Boost unit. While the attack was unsucessful, he did find a weakness Strayed exploits later. It is worth noting that Strayed is the pilot you play as in ACFA and the pilot of White Glint is the pilot you played as in AC4
The reason why White Glint was unsuccesful I feel is that White Glint can be seen fighting a lot more normals and supporting units than we can see during our mission.
Also I'm not sure where that bit of White Glint finding info that allows us to destroy it later on came from.
As far as I know the corporations don't work with Line Ark at all.

@@uncleweirdbeard86 Yeah, in the first bit with Motherwill you can see she's absolutely covered with normals, more than a dozen or so for each of motherwills floors.
Later when White Glint lands on Motherwill you see several already shooting at him.
No wonder he lost, taking on an arms fort as well as that many normals supporting it is insane.
@@alephkasai9384White Glint also most likely took out most of them with the Assault Armor hence why there's barely any when you fight it
To see the aftermath of the events that happened in the ACFA opening you have to press the "Start" button at the Main Menu of the game. You will see White Glint appear from all the ash and particles effects in the air from using its Assault Armor. It's really cool.
Love the footage of the assault on Spirit of Motherwill. While the fight against this gigantic behemoth has another Soundtrack aptly titled "Spirit of Motherwill", 4 the Answer is one of the shorter songs which incorporate other Tracks in the OST like a shorter, dynamic version.
Your analysis is spot on. Lots of comments on the ACfA Soundtrack vids here on youtube speculate if the choir actually says something like "amen" and well, we'll probably never find out the true intention/background of the meaning, but it leaves room for a lot of speculation and theories, which honestly, stretches over the entirety of the Armored Core franchise OST. In a way you could say, From Software loves nuanced storytelling and Kota Hoshino and Tsukasa Saitoh do that in their very own way, being part of the FS sound division.

For Answer's OST is INCREDIBLE. I love the whole series of games, and I can't wait to see what 6 is going to have in store, both in terms of gameplay and music.
Also, ALL the games have incredible intros! When Armored Core 2 first dropped, the intro to that blew my mind.

It's nice to see people are getting to know this series for the first time. Armored Core was a major part of my childhood.
Best opening theme of all AC generations. U sums up the aspect of the song so well. The pilot of that mech is the only fighting force in his hometown and without him his hometown will be gone for good. And he is so OP that the only way to win against him is to gang up or just leave him alone.

I've never played an Armored Core game before (they were before I really got into gaming and well before my experiences with FromSoftware games). I know very well Armored Core 6 is going to be a different FromSoftware experience for me, but I cannot wait. The trailer for it is amazing and I've been watching parts of the previous games to try and get a feel for what to expect with Armored Core 6, and everything I see just makes me more excited for it.

Man you are CRUSHING it with these music analysis. The biggest use of this song for me is during the Defeat White Glint mission. The part about heading towards something big definitely is true considering in game the league is so afraid of this one NEXT and it's LYNX that they refuse to send anyone but their best against White Glint and even more so they force the confrontation to be a 2v1 in YOUR FAVOR. Yeah WG is so op in lore that it required 2 top tier LYNX (you and Otdsarva) to beat him.

There's a longer and somewhat remixed version of this track, called Today. Should give it a listen. But I'm curious to know what your opinion would be on an Armored Core 5 track call Mech Dinosaur. It's a boss track that I feel gets the player pretty pumped.

Funny enough that giant walking aircraft carrier isn't "The Answerer". In the game there are these massive boss battles that "Strayed" (the player) takes on, called Armsforts. The armsfort the song is named after, is the last armsfort strayed goes against. The fight itself is against a massive machine and almost literal God of War.

Motherwill is certainly epic and the music does sound like a prayer, but i always saw it as both sides at once. The protagonist is just a mercenary and is hardly the "angel" sent to save the people. It could easily also be the people supporting motherwill asking some higher power to save them from YOU. Its pretty typical of fromsoft games to be ambiguous with right and wrong but its one of my favorite aspects of the armored core games, ESPECIALLY 4th and 5th gen

This is my favorite installment in the series and even though Armored Core 4 is not as good as it, you need the context from 4 to fully appreciate the complex social, political, character driven narrative of this game. The series as a whole has always been about the cyclical nature of conflict and history in multiple aspects of the words but none have better encapsulated it within a single installment, I feel, as 4A.

ya, armored core tends to be on the faster side of mech combat games, unlike say mech warrior. so the music is often more bombastic.
