You just drilled two 3" holes right? Well why don't you use the two plate scraps that came from those holes to fill the old holes? Great job too by the way. 👍
@@basstech714 Yeah I know. We need to go easy on on Lawrence right now. he's under alot of pressure and maybe some stress what with running one business for the most part all by himself and now trying to get another one started.
@@trdscfjc You loose what, all of 16th of an inch all the way around and a small hole in the middle for the drill bit something a welder can bridge just fine.
ULINES is going to be your best friend now that you are a shop owner. Do yourself a favor and get the big catalog and keep it in your toolbox you're going to need it!
LT, I’ve been meaning to congratulate you on the new shop! I’ve been watching, but just haven’t dropped a comment til now. As for 1 hour a day on the build…I think that’s a symptom of you having your priorities set straight…family, a cash flowing shop, and then a drag truck. You’ll get there and it’ll be awesome…just pace yourself. Also, I’ll be emailing you about a project soon.
Lt, maybe consider not putting in a bed floor, just do like fiber glass fenders, save some weight, and we can see the suspension work... would make some cool launch shots.... congrats on new shop... this is gonna be great!
Glad to see the new shop has a red belt line on the wall like the orange one you had at the house! Lol bro paint that red line orange!! After the inside has been blown out and washed!! Keep it Tolman looking 👌 it's awesome this is working out!!
That tank is massive! So happy to see you in your own shop. I know you are taking a risk and putting everything on the line. I always say, “I’m betting on myself”… when people question why I’m taking risks and going to more demanding jobs in my trade( I don’t like being too comfortable).
I think the best part of this first video in the new shop is how much room you have to work in. My guess is that you’re enjoying it too. Raise it off the ground and get a rolling chair.
It's crazy that someone would leave all of that equipment in the shop when they left. I wish you the best, it's hard to get a successful business up and running and maintained. I bet it's like night and day going from a house garage working on the floor to a functioning shop with the right equipment...lol.
looking good, l just found your channel, from the l bought an abandoned shop video. your fuel tank mounts, it'd be a lot stronger, if you have metal plates, under the tank also, between the same plates you welded the bolts to, the weight would be spread between the area of the plates, and not just the area of the washers you put under those nuts.
Hi LT, like your channel and the work you do on the trucks. Idea that I have to clear the bed/fuel tank is to place a reinforced rubber between the aluminum tank and steel frame might give you the clearance you need and keep dissimilar metals from corroding. Just an idea. Good luck with the new business venture. Jim
Congratulations on the shop ! Thanks for the continued great content. Remember to breathe if you ever feel overwhelmed with all you’ve taken on.. It’s a lot, but I think you got it brother. I believe in you.
You definitely are a perfectionist, and just because it's factory doesn't mean it's the best way to do stuff and I hope you live long enough to complete the project
Something that would be a good idea would be to add some sort of vibration isolation between the frame and the tank. You're likely to fatigue the welded area around the mounts on the tank if you don't.
I'm super excited for you man! its going to be the most stressful time for you as you build this from the ground up. stick with it tho, if you're channel is any indication of your drive then i think you got this in the bag! Well done sir, well done.
I've been watching LT for a long time and I think I can see from this video that he's got muscle memory from working in his last home shop. Rolled the frame in and got the lift set up but continued to bend, squat, and kneel while doing most of the work. Maybe there's a good reason that I missed in the video. What say you LT? Anyway, congratulations on your achievements and best wishes for what's in your future.
I had thought about pointing this out in the video, but I couldn't lift it up too high since the axle was disconnected, and the weight of the massive big block up front would not allow it to balance properly on the lift if the front tires were raised off the ground... but also force of habit lol
First, good luck with getting the shop fully up and running. Secondly, the lighting is a HUGE upgrade from the home garage -- that alone has greatly improved the videos. Not to mention having all the space to really film the process in better detail (like refilling the welding wire halfway through welding. 😆 ). Looking forward to more sub-projects for the U.T.
Maybe you were planning on it but you should put a piece of rubber between the frame and the aluminum fuel cell. The dissimilar metals will corrode if you don't.
Be sure to flush with the lid closed (closed BEFORE flushing) to minimize the smell. I guarantee it will help the bathroom stink less no matter what else you do. Just a free PSA for everybody.
The stock fuel setup on many of these 8.1l's have two tanks and pumps, I know mine does. When I replaced the lines and pumps they called it an auxiliary tank. It mounts right where he just planted his, but also has the stock drivers side tank and pump. The whole system takes 38gal or so. Just for reference LT could just mount a stock fuel cell and probably end up well over 50gal of fuel. You know incase rum running is an idea, just look out for boss hog lol. Well that's also assuming UA-cam still is anywhere near the radar after a year of shop ownership. Best of luck LT. If I was local I would think about grease monkeying for you but Maine to Colorado is a huge jump. Find yourself a white board for the shop floor, it should help with foreword momentum and such. Maybe hire a secretary for the paperwork so your hands can machine the machines so to speak. Can't wait to see those solid shaft rocker spin past 7000rpm on an 8.1l. Literally no idea what to expect on the dyno from that, most people grenade them well before that yours however, I'm sure it will handle it with that stack of purpose built badass. I just hope it doesn't get back burnered.
Instead of patching those holes, in the frame why not use that make a filler neck? Move the factory fuel door back closer to that location. That way you retain the factory look even further. Instead of having to drill a hole in the bed and all of that. Just a thought, love the content!! Congrats on the new shop.
I haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do with the rear mount tank for my twin-turbo Dakota RT. But while mapping everything out I came to the conclusion that I'm going to be using straps. I thought about mounting it to the frame rails but I fear with fuel slosh and frame flex that overtime eventually the welds will fatigue and either crack or start ripping holes in the tank. Not telling you what to do just sharing my opinion of what I've also thought about doing. You do really great work man.
Nice work Dude, been very interesting, love the bbc build and the new shoo is fenominal, I've been watching ya since the truck tech show, all great content, would love to visit some time
Suggestion: Why not use one of the holes in the frame as a 'factory' style fuel filler. I know it's a lot of work, but one could cut the factory filler door out of the bedside (in front of the rear wheel) and move it behind the rear wheel, and voila' almost Factreee!
Congratulations on your shop. I am curious, could you flare those two holes left from removing the crossmember rather than fill them? Not sure if there is enough to flare. I noticed you using some ear buds while grinding. I have tinnitus, and I am.sure using grinders and other tools with just earbuds contributed. I have sought out better ear protection, including more effective ear buds and full muffs. It has helped a lot. These days, I have Bluetooth versions of both, too. Do protect yourself. Thanks for the video.
Congratulations on the new shop. Why are you welding on the floor when you have a hoist now? Being comfortable when working is the most important thing 😊
nice work my man. if your gonna give the truck the same look as the orange COPO truck. put on the cowl hood 8.4L(512 if you prefer english american) turbocharged or heck get custom badge lettering in the same factory style as it came with. since you wanna keep it sleeper-ish.
The new shop is lookin awesome and the new fuel tank looks good! Can't wait to see what next!! I did see some comments about not using the metal that was drilled out for the new tubing, can you use these to fill the old holes? Just curious and thanks for a great video LT! :)
Im so extra with what i do also takesme a long time but it gets done right. Enjoying the builds man, still anxious for that 5.4 Navi engine build its gonna be a good one.
For those not looking to cut the tube out or just adding a 2nd tank.I found out on complete accident eBay’s 19 gallon aluminum tank fits that same spot with only cutting off the tire mount. Just need to build a mount to support it. Got some major help from this channel for my own project.
Nice job!!! I mean if that alignment station works... thats a way for decent money ... I'm sure you have a whole plan all mapped out... can't wait to see everything up an running!!!
As a Canadian we rust check inside those cross members then cap the ends with hockey pucks. Congrats LT 🎉
You just drilled two 3" holes right? Well why don't you use the two plate scraps that came from those holes to fill the old holes? Great job too by the way. 👍
Was thinking the exact same thing?
@@basstech714 Yeah I know. We need to go easy on on Lawrence right now. he's under alot of pressure and maybe some stress what with running one business for the most part all by himself and now trying to get another one started.
Because you loose material from the saw cut, and you would need too much filler, he has o.c.d. and that would not fly.
@@trdscfjcyeah you’re right. I’m sure he didn’t overlook that
@@trdscfjc You loose what, all of 16th of an inch all the way around and a small hole in the middle for the drill bit something a welder can bridge just fine.

That could be a whole new series of videos for your channel.
King of OEM+ glad to see your got yourself a proper workspace
couldnt of use the blank cut out from the hole saw to fill in the other holes?
you could, but the gap left by the hole saw making the cut will leave a lot of room to fill with weld.
