    I met BerNadette Stanis some years ago at an African Festival at Washington Park in Chicago. It was a rainy Sunday night. The crowd was light and she was standing at a booth selling her book. She was by herself. My friends were acting funny about paying their respect so I walked up to her and we talked for a good amount of time. I will never forget that night. She is Black History. She is Black Excellence. ❤

    • @Italiano-Forte
      @Italiano-Forte 17 днів тому

      Being white when the show was on, my take was showing inequity at the time and family values was first and foremost.
      The father despite all obstacles, persevered and took care of his family. The mother was the glue of the family as in most families. Michael was intelligent and a fighter of right and wrong. Thelma was a descent, traditional women and JJ being very talented but a clown. But that was the comedy of it.
      I saw it as a teenager at the time, and think that all the characters portrayed were a microcosm of life. I took a positive opinion of the black community at the time as the majority of the characters were portrayed positively and good family values were projected. Hell, I have been married to my Black best friend and wife for over 34 years.

    Listen!!! To this DAY, if Good Times is on TV, I am watching every episode, and I know 98% of the lines in each episode. Sooo awesome to see our three favorite kids from our "favorite project family" (if you know who said that line than you are a TRUE Good Times fan)

    I love this interview. I have a Jimmy Walker story he would not know or recall at all. I was walking through O'Hare International Airport in the 90's, Jimmy Walker was walking in my direction looking me over while we walked in the other's direction. I had no idea it was Jimmy Walker and I was not trying to make eye contact, so I put on a real mean look on my face and rolled my eyes at him. Ultimately, he looked away and kept walking. It was when he passed by did I recognize it was Jimmy and suddenly I felt quite bad about my attitude. I still watch "Good Times" to this day. The actors were phenomenal. I love them all. ❤❤❤

    I recall seeing Ralph Carter walking down the hall at Hunter College. His face was so familiar to me that I immediately said, “hi”, and he said, “hi!” Then it hit me who he was!
    I also recalled that he took classes with renown historian Dr. Henrik Clarke while at Hunter College.

      This song is so true today. When you are able to makes your payments every month is a blessing. Good times to me come from being able to take care of family, myself, and still celebrating life.

    I loved the entire interview! I also liked how lovingly Bernadette told Mr. Walker to just tell them how you got your part when they were asked that question. “JJ” was going on and on about being on the road and all the liars etc. I just love them all! 😂😂😂
