“I met Tangui some years ago - he was curating a music festival in Brittany, and still didn’t think about going back to his childhood instrument. Thing is - the biniou, local version of the adventure of European bagpipes, can be an arduous one to endure - his hyper high pitch not much considered in recent explorations of ancient music. Until Tangui “Craze” blows into it again with a certain deviance towards repetitive music, Terry Riley in a Sufi dress catapulted in ancient folktales, and reminds me of the vortex at work in trances.
We went “dervishing” wild under the Nefs de Nantes, the ancient naval factory, blowing it just enough long to not disturb the passersby, and capturing in one shot a bit of the magic we would later perform together the next night, for the Eurofonik Festival.”
