  • I sat down with Reiss to talk about the @addiasfootball x @arsenal No More Red campaign, the experiences he had growing up around knife crime and how football kept him focussed. Last year saw a record number of teenagers murdered in London. Arsenal’s white shirt is a symbol of inspiration and action. It’ll never be made available for sale and is not for profit.

    No More Red. Every young person deserves an opportunity. Opportunity to express themselves and the opportunity to exist within a safe environment. Love this Campaign, had abit of knife crime in my area a lot of the past year and I’m from Oxford. People think it’s posh area because of the university but most people who go there aren’t even from Oxford. The estates get crazy and A few of us that have the platform to tell these kids there are better options in life. We just hope they hear us.

      Great campaign but these guys are killers who don't care, even if they "support" Arsenal. It'll make no difference without a harsh crackdown, as that's the only language they know. But then you'll hear the cries of "racist system!" and the cycle continues.

    Hello Ian, I know you won't see this, but I just wanted to say what a huge impact you made on my life. You were my idol when I was growing up. I loved you. I so wish you had the opportunity to play more for England I believe we would of won something if you were there in those tournaments. What I love about you though is that you were so passionate about playing for England. You transcended boundaries, you wore your heart on your sleeve for Arsenal and for England. You come across as such a nice bloke, and you were a great striker. But the love you have for Arsenal and England just gets me. I think you are one of the greatest players England has ever had, and they didn't recognise it. I wish you and your family well. Love from a die hard Arsenal and England fan

    Super interesting to hear, but also super Sad to realise what these kids go through in the inner cities. I'm a 50y old white guy whose only ever issue was getting beaten up by some older kid on the estate for wearing my arsenal shirt. But that was just once, and we never thought about knives, it wasn't a thing back then.

      Lack of discipline, not knowing how to control emotions, fragile egos, drugs and short-sightedness is some of the main problems. Most of these youths ain't learning from past mistakes, so this issue isn't going to get fixed sadly.

    Its a shame, London is no longer safe for your kids. There are too many 'parents' who think that their job is done once their child starts school. How many young mums do you see nowdays glued to their phones instead of interacting with their children.

      Huuuuuge problem in the US some young girls 14-15 years feel like they're adults and get props from friends for even having a baby. Those guys who get them pregnant are gone when they find out. They just end up being "MY BABY'S DADDY". No name he's just called 'my baby's daddy' or 'my baby's father'.

    It's not surprising that Arsenal are taking the lead on this. Not only are we a club in London, but we've had 2 players threatened with knives during a robbery. It wouldn't have taken that much for those incidents ending in tragedy.
    Edit: A fan was murdered on the way to a game as well

    Wouldn't it be better if the shirts were for sale and if the money generated would go to the important charities and organisations that work with this problem? Or straight to the kids themselves in order to pursue their dreams? The organisations would get better support in their work from the money the sales would make rather than getting a white shirt. How is that making a difference for them? It's also a win win for the fans because everyone wants this shirt and it would generate so much money for the cause. Am I missing something or??

    • @franklingoodwin
      @franklingoodwin 2 роки тому +2

      I think the p is that these organisations aren't necessarily charities per se so the logistics of where the profits would go to would be difficult in terms of trasparacy. Also you'd get people accusing Arsenal and Adidas of profiting from knife crime

  • @alfredthegreat9543
    @alfredthegreat9543 2 роки тому +5

    Just saw this on the Arsenal channel. You can understand the peer pressure and thoughts of self preservation when it comes to choosing to carry a knife as RN described. No easy solution to it is there? Everything needs to be on on the table- even including corporal punishment- no matter how distasteful it is, because nothing is worse than what some of these kids and their families have suffered. Obviously some think they're being big and tough carrying a knife too- maybe a campaign where those who carry knives are ridiculed and portrayed as "namby-pambys"- making it not cool to carry a knife. Big financial penalties to the parent(s) if their child is caught carrying? Or any child caught with a knife being sent off to a boot camp where it's so miserable they will never want to return again. Or banning them from owning or having a phone for 6 months? Need to think outside of the box because the problem has been endemic for a long time now and different kids will respond in different ways to different types of influence and punishments.

    • @mourningireland4560
      @mourningireland4560 2 роки тому +3

      You're on the right track with a lot of that, but I think the key is the family life of these kids, or rather the lack of it. And also how widespread these problems are. Parents' behaviour from a young age drives these kids to that behaviour. Obviously not everyone, and I'm not absolving these guys of their crimes. They know what they're doing is wrong. But I think it's too late for a lot of them. Not all, of course, but for many it's too late from a disgracefully young age. That's why I honestly think the death penalty has a purpose here.

    • @alfredthegreat9543
      @alfredthegreat9543 2 роки тому

      @@mourningireland4560 I know it's popular to blame family life, single parents etc but it's more than that because millions of kids have grown up in "broken" homes etc over the years but haven't turned to knife crime have they? That's a Daily Mail narrative.
      Death penalty? No civilised society has the Death penalty- it doesn't work to reduce serious crime anyway, and is barbaric. Also, the justice system is made up of people and people make mistakes- its bad enough the number of judgements that are found to be wrong or unsafe years later- can you imagine if decades later it was discovered an innocent had been executed? Abhorrent. Leave the Death penalty where it is now- in barbaric, medieval societies, we are above that type of thing.

    So many fatherless families! Hence no discipline at home. Adidas can’t replace a father figure. 🇧🇩🇵🇸🤙🏽 a man needs to be a man look after their families and help raise their kids with manners and most importantly teach kids right from wrong and these fathers must show theirs wife’s , partners love from which these kids can see and learn, only then peace in society will prevail.

Noone will no where the bins will be, so they keep their annonimity. It cannot be reopened. Great idea. PS I already did mine 6 months ago. WORD.

      Mate, punishment is the answer, i live in a little town called Yiewsley in West London, just down the road from VAR at Stockley Park, we’ve just got the tag of hosting the first knife murders of 2022 !
      A 13 year old stabbed a 44 year old Polish father of three young boys to death and 3 days later, 2 sixteen year olds had a knife fight, one died ! My 2 boys are living around this all day, the kids ain’t scared, they know they’ll get a short sentence, there’s no deterrent taking a life means nothing to them, they’ve both been caught now and I’d give em’ 50 years each, make an example, i guarantee if i doesn’t stop knife crime, it’ll send a strong message out there and even if it reduces stabbings by 50%, it’s a start !
