  • Big thanks to Adelaide Turbo Services, the GTX3071R in 0.64 is absolutely PERFECT for this engine! Here's some dyno footage of the beast in action!
The ignition system is breaking down over 5500rpm and there's quite a bit of wastegate creep from my old 38mm 'gate, so we had to wind it back quite a bit. Still some very decent numbers and most importantly, crazy response despite retarded cam timing! Once I can get a stronger spark, bigger wastegate and adjustable cam gear, this thing is going to absolutely haul (well, even more so). Awesome work from Anthony at Jaustech Automotive to get this thing ready for Matsuri despite the issues!
Engine is an Isuzu 4ZE1 2.6L 4cyl SOHC, ARP head studs, MLS head gasket, spool rods, JE forged pistons, turbo grind cam, oversized exhaust valves (40mm), aftermarket plenum and Falcon throttle body, tuned length Gemracing exhaust manifold with 38mm external gate (way too small), screamer pipe, 3" mandrell bent straight through exhaust to side exit, 1000cc injectors and a Megasquirt 2 V3.0 ECU running a single DIYAutotune coil which seems to be topping out at around 5500rpm.

I knew it! 4ZE1, what a fuckin engine. I have 4 of them now, have had 10 total. Ran one for thousands of KM after I bagged it 4x4ing and it spit out the heat flange off the side of one piston head. A 2 inch squared piece of aluminum piston was found in the oil pan and it kept running for thousands, tough to kill these little thumpers. PS: 4ZE1 factory requirements for oil is SAE 30 between 5C and 40plus Celcius. What an awesome job you have done. Show me more!!!! please.

agreed how much boost clip of engine bay would be nice doubt ima get a response but id really like to know coz im biulding one basically exactly the same specs but spool piston and rods combo ... im curious if there is anything you would have done different or upgraded while you where biulding it ... like timeing belt tensioner i hear is a big one .... where did you get the mls for it and the moded intake ... if you got it from lee thomas do you know if he still makes them because i cant get a hold of him .... are you running 1 in tank pump with the stock lines and rail or did they require upgrading ... :)

how much boost you running mate? im currently building my 4ze1 but I'll be runninga bigger turbo on mine as im chasing abit more power but im very surprised with those figures

The boost control is currently so bad it's hard to give a definite number, it's varying from one run to the next. Put it this way, the wastegate cracks open at around 14psi but we've seen numbers from 20-30psi in the top end, so in short it's all over the place. I'm working on fixing this now with a better gate. The turbo's just too responsive! Haha. You could easily go a 0.82 rear and still have very good response, maybe even up to a GTX35 if need be but it depends what you're chasing. I feel there's a fair bit more power to be had even from mine, and I only ever set out to make 230rwkw. I'm tossing up E85 too, and if I ever get bored of the power I'll be trying a 0.82 rear before anything else :D

how would i go about making my 4ZE1 a reliable turboed motor? ive gotta rebuild it anyway. not lookin to push crazy hp numbers, but i’d like to up the power a lil bit an mostly do it for fuel mileage an just turbo noises

Honestly, I'm still working that out - mine isn't reliable. I think my main issue is oil supply at high G-force though. I'd suggest checking the #1 main bearing oil feed with the bearing shell in - I've found the block's supply isn't in the right place on #1, so a small amount of die-grinding could help. Check clearances, keep boost fairly low (

hi I've got a auto Gemini with 1.6 litre engine . its got a full exhaust and goes hard, can I dyno tune it or should i wait until I get rims?

No point dyno tuning a stock motor... plus you're limited to rejetting and mechanically altering the distributor on a stock car. Tuning fixes problems with timing or mixture that come from changing things. If the car's standard, there's no tune problems to fix.
