On a side note, once the Statute of Limitation expires, any case beyond that time should automatically be thrown out. If they want to extend the limits, then do so legally.

NY's statute of limitations law is bullshit. It only starts counting when the state finds out about the alleged crime. When the alleged crime was committed is immaterial.
Example: I receive and sell stolen property in 1996. The state of limitations on a d felony is 7 years.
The prosecutor finds out about it somehow in 2024. They have until 2031 to prosecute.

You're presumption here is rather bonkers. Cause if true, then there wouldn't have been a need to extend the statute of limitations in the first place when it comes to the Carroll case.
Why? Cause the State didn't learn of it until the suit was brought forward. You might as well just not have a statute of limitations at that point. 🤔
