New Zealand Rock Legend Graham Brazier with his classic song from "Inside Out" his first solo album recorded with help from members of Hello Sailor, D.D Smash and th' Dudes.
agreed on The Doors comment, one NYE in Lower Hutt in the late 90s i had the pleasure of seeing him perform an entire set of The Doors - far better than the real thing i thought, Midge Marsden and Bullfrog Rata opened, it was a great night and i even managed to get onstage (albiet a bit drunk) to sing along with Graham on "Roadhouse Blues", these are good memories :-)
GRAHAM BRAZIER - - Rest In Peace GRAHAM BRAZIER - I met him at a HELLO SAILOR gig at the WHISKEY on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood , California - - 1978 - 1979 - He was a wonderful artist as well and drew a sketch of me right there at the party after the show - -
Fucking absolute Kiwi classic mate! Graham Brazier sung this at my mates funeral, RIP Gus Bennett. Braziers a legend and hes a good League man! GO THE KIWIS!
Really sad to hear we have lost another NZ icon in our music field today. I remember being fortunate to see Graham, and meet him at a tiny acoustic venue with Hammond Gamble. Between sets they swapped and came to the bar and chatted quietly with us. I have tickets for the 'Hello Sailor' gig on 18th and now if it goes ahead will be in memory of a great lyricist
After the Hello Sailor days.Great,`81 was the year of NZs own Springbok tour riots as well as those Toxeth in Liverpool ,sounds like a great Liverpool-Irish ballad.A loss of innocence. Thanks it was the year I went on my OE to UK.
First Dave and now Graeme! Both too young only in their early sixties! Saw Hello Sailor do an acoustic set about 8 years ago and nostalgia instantly drew me back to Mainstreet and the Gluepot! Regardless of the band fractures they experienced, us hardcores know them as HS ! RIP Graeme still in shock!
Classic Kiwi song from the eighties by Graham Brazier, thanks for posting this on youtube, be great to find it one day when i'm back in N.Z on CD like possibly the Hello sailor album, oh well at least i can hear and see the song here on UA-cam :)
+Vaughn Coghlan Vaughan , yes a huge loss - - Can you tell me of a certain HELLO SAILOR song that started out with the chords as an intro - - these were the chords - - F to E minoe to C to A 7th - - Can you try to help me find that very song - -and of which of their albums it was on - - Hollywood Joe a
Cool to see these guys touring again. A true troubadour, from the tough British bloodstock that has seen that Island nation fend off so many adversiaries. Graham couldn't bring himself to tour with The Doors in '78, cause it went against his socialist roots to leave his bandmates wallowing while he was rubbing shoulders with such fame. Admirable.
Saw Graham sitting in his Mom's shop in Dominion Road, sadly goner after both her and his demise... seen him when a stand in on the set of Queen City rockers starring Matthew Hunter... Seen him walking around Dominion Road - he just looked at me and me at, him wondering perhaps... If I was from Liverpool/English: by the look on his face:) Shame on the guy stealing Library books, from Auckland Libraries, trying to on-sell them to his mother in her shop! Seen his mates Jordan Luck etc driving around...Graham supposedly owned Jim Morrison's car "Blue Lady". Seen Dave Dobbin walking with his dog in Grey Lynn, Auckland..very short guy he is :) Love Graham's songs :) He sort of reminds me of that NZ actor Kevin Smith? that was on Xena, who died on a set in Hong Kong! Bit of a Ladies man :) R.I.P mate!
A most relevant composition by Graham Brazier in relation to the unrest across Britain during that era and beyond. I guess it makes Aotearoan en-masse demonstrations look a little sheepish or lame on reflection. The best performances produced; a Queen St riot (thanks Dave), a "close the spy station" get together every year or so for old time's sake, and the reflection of a rugby fanatisized batons and barbed wire Springbok protest affaire, 1981. Still, Kiwi music artists with insight and talent such as his should never simply be relegated to the archives of; "once were".
Still good in 2023
One of my favorite songs. RIP Graham a great and wonderful influence on New Zealand Music. Time will not forget
