    I have been using this case for years, and I truly believe they help my reeds last longer. The biggest flaw of this case is the plastic hinges of the plate ( the part that holds the reeds). They are super flimsy. If you drop your case from your music stand, 95% the chance the plate would fall off the place in the case. I could always push the plate back into place but you never know when the tiny hinges will break off for good.

    Hello, thanks for the review! I have one question: the closing, is it supposed to be clicky? Because I just received mine, and it's kind of loose. When I shake it, it will open.

    • @Saxcomprehensive

      Hi. Holding the edge of mine and shaking it violently, it doesn't open no matter how hard I shake it. It also clicks shut. The catch is spring loaded and there is a little hole at the base of it that a bit of protruding plastic on the lid clicks into, so the lid does not open without the catch being pulled back. Just make sure that it is fully closed and that there is not anything stopping it from clicking shut. Otherwise, if it is that loose maybe you should change it. Thanks.

      Thank you very much! Your response was so helpful. I've tried to move the catch, but it's definitely loose. I will change it... Keep up with your videos, just discover your channel, I find you have very good quality information. As you may seem English is not my mother language, but it's a nice way to put it on practice. Thanks again.

    I really enjoyed this case. Until it the surface of it started to get sticky. Been hearing a lot of people having this problem as well. So now am looking for a replacement. Have you had any troubles with the surface getting sticky

      Hi. I have not had any problems with the surface getting sticky. I have had problems with mould growing inside because it is airtight and I no longer use the humidifier packs. I usually use the Reedjuvinate reed case which I have a review of on my channel, or most recently I store my reeds in a small jar of alcohol which keep the reed moist and clean. If you find a good replacement reed case, let me know which and I might do a review of it. Thanks for the comment.

      @@Saxcomprehensive Been looking at the Vandoren Hygro Reed Case. Any thoughts on that one.

      @@kellygrant4964 Hi. I have not tried that one. The comments on amazon are mixed. With cases like this that contain moisture, we have to be careful of mould growing as it is the perfect condition for mould. Just make sure that you wipe off the reeds before putting them in the case and always check them. One person said that it was good for the first few months and then started to notice mould. However, others love it. I guess it is all about how we treat our reeds. Even if we have a case, we still need to clean it out and the reeds on a regular basis. Thanks.

    does it fit a bass clarinet Reed?

    • @Saxcomprehensive
      @Saxcomprehensive  9 місяців тому

      Hi. The D'addario website states that it holds 8 reeds of any size clarinet and saxophone. Therefore according to their website it will hold bass clarinet reeds. Thanks.

    hey, how long do the humidity packs last?

    • @Saxcomprehensive
      @Saxcomprehensive  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi. According to D'Addarrio they last between 4-6 weeks. They may last longer if the case remains closed. They can be expensive so I would shop around instead of buying them direct from D'addarrio. When the humidity pack gets hard, it needs to be replaced. My one lasted a long time, a few months. You can use the case without it but you will need to be careful since the case is supposed to be airtight which means mould can grow. You will need to clean out the case and reeds from time to time. I left mine closed for a few months without a humidity pack and it became full of mould but I guess it depends on how a person uses it. I believe D'addarrio makes another case which contains a small sponge which you wet which does the same job. I suggest you try a few containers until you find the one right for you. Thanks

    Is there sufficient humidity so you don't have to wet the reed before playing also I just bought one and I can't tell which reed is which without pulling them out which can be difficult. Thanks

    • @Saxcomprehensive
      @Saxcomprehensive  2 роки тому

      Hi. I find that with the humidity pack I still have to wet the reeds before playing. However the purpose of the pack is to stop them drying completely out and stop the warping of the reed. There are different packs that you can get with different percentages but I have not tried them. If you look closely there are numbers on each slot by the hinge just above the tip of the reeds. You might have to hold it up to the light to see them. You can use those numbers to identify the reeds. The Reedjuvinate reed storage case keeps the reeds more moist than this case as you have to pour liquid in it. I have a video on that case also. Thanks

    I just got a new case from D'Addario like the one you're reviewing... the latch is a cheap plastic nub and it doesn't work very well; it doesn't help keep the storage case lid closed!

      Hi. D'addario is a well known brand so should produce good quality products. My case has never given me any problems and it closes tight and does not open unless I release the catch. Even if I shake it violently it does not open. Make sure that there is nothing stopping it from closing completely. Make sure the reeds are correctly placed, as well as the humidification pack. Another person did write a comment similar to yours and I suggested that he change it for another one as it may be faulty. But as I said before my case works perfectly well. I hope you sort it out. Thanks for the comment.

    I heard some people use mouthwash for their reeds and mouthpieces. Can anyone describe how best to care for the mouthpiece and reeds?

    • @Saxcomprehensive
      @Saxcomprehensive  2 роки тому +1

      Hi. I did a video on how to clean your saxophone where I answer those questions. I also go through it in my video learn to play the saxophone in one hour. Some people use original listerine mouthwash to clean their reeds as it does not contain the sugars and other ingredients found in other mouthwash that can reduce the life of your reeds. Lots use hydrogen peroxide 3% solution to soak their reeds in, then rinse off in water. Wiping it with a cloth after use and storing it in a case is good enough for daily care but at some point you will want to give a deeper clean. Wash your mouthpiece in cold water with a mild soap and soft cloth. Never use hot water or chemicals as it may deform or change the colour of the mouthpiece. Store it in a cloth or bag since they can be easily scratched or chipped. Watch the relevant section in my video for a more detailed explanation. Thanks
