Indigo Traveller - Podcast #12 (North Korea, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Extreme Travel)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2024
- Today's episode is a conversation with Nick Fischer (@IndigoTraveller). Nick makes travel videos in very unusual and often extreme locations such as North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, and more. Indigo Traveller videos sometimes blur the line between travel videos and journalism - though Nick is quick to point out that he isn't a journalist. What he is though is one of the more unique travel channels on UA-cam. His work has not only earned Indigo Traveller over 1 million subscribers, but it has also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities around the world.
We have a lot to get to, so let's get started... here is Episode 12 of The New Travel Podcast, with Indigo Traveller.

Hey I just discovered your channel as it came up after having watched a few of the Indigo Traveller series. Really enjoyed your chat and will be sure to check out some of your travel videos right after this :) in answer to your question, I would love to see you do a podcast with Eva zu Beck and also The Yabros. Peace xox
This is such a great video dude, people watch 1 hour videos on youtube if they are deeply full of information that can actually help to better themselves.
One of the things that I’m still tryna figure out is how you guys don’t feel lonely during these long journeys, especially on the planning knowing you’ll be alone even tho amazing, I think some memories need to be built with someone you can feel those moments, but I hope I’ll find your travelers’ secret, thanks again to both of you guys!
Thanks for doing this podcast. Indigo Traveller is one of the most incredible travel channels. Its nice to hear more about the person behind these amazing videos. 💫🇿🇦
Great interview, Dan. And a good choice for a guest, I've been a subscriber to his channel for a while, actually since the North Korea video. I think the truth is someplace between a journalist and vlogger. The goal isn't a complete view of the country, but rather stories about the country and its people.
Love Nick. Great interview.
Dan, you are a very thoughtful interviewer and asked so many great questions. Very impressive! I agree with a few of the others suggesting you interview Jason Billam. Thank you for your great work!
24:00 absolutely beautiful segue. Just a beautiful simple question that pivoted with perfect delivery.
Thanks Joe
Nick is my hero! Thanks for the interview.
He's a legend. Glad you enjoyed!
Indigo Traveller brought me here ❤️ thank y’all

Great podcast from two of my favourite UA-camrs atm I only started watching in new travel since the Montreal content but indigo traveller for years I would love to see a joint travel vid in the future 👍🏾👍🏻

Thanks so much Agatha 🙌
Good interviewer, Good interviewee. Definitely interesting. One of my favorite interview questions is "What surprised you most?" Perhaps, interview Jason Billam?
Thanks Jay, glad you enjoyed. Jason has definitely travelled a lot of interesting places!

Hi Dan. 👋,
🙂
So nice to discover you and your The New Travel yt chanel.
In a few hours i just devoured your India vlogs, and then discovered this excellent video with Indigo Traveller. You both became my favorites.
i would like a podcast with Drew Binsky too 😊.
All the best from Ro. 🇷🇴
Dan
Excellent interview. Amazing .. Try getting Jason Billam and also Alexander White. Also maybe Drew Binsky.
Why not Itchy Boots (Noraly)?
Thanks I T, appreciate it! Funny story about Itchy Boots... I had never heard of that channel until one day I was taking a train across Canada and got talking with an old man. He saw me filming stuff and asked what I was doing, so I explained about my channel. As I did I thought to myself, this guy probably has no idea what a UA-cam vlog is...
Then suddenly his face lights up and he says, "Ah! Have you heard of Itchy Boots?"
Not only did he know UA-cam vlogs... he was now teaching me!
You're good at this interview stuff Dan, and connecting with kiwis.
Haha appreciate that Paige!
My wife and I went to Egypt in 2018 because of Nick’s videos in the country. It was an incredible experience and is one of our favorite countries we’ve visited. It’s the only place I’ve ever been where I went to sleep every night wondering how humans were able to build such incredible structures thousands of years ago. The people were wonderful and we would go back on a heartbeat.
i love it!
Thanks man :)

I’ll take this opportunity to recommend to you dan to watch a hollywood movie called ( lord of war 2005 ) it’s so relevant to your words in many ways . And let me know after you watch it !
An old high school friend of mine was really into that movie. But I've never seen it! Maybe I can watch on my next flight :)

halo my name is bakri from indonesia
Hi Bakri!
Perdón...pero Venezuela no me parece un lugar tan extraño, no debería estar en esta clasificación.
I really don't like that guy. He visits poor areas in different countries and he insults them behind their backs calling their houses slums. That's very rude. He is from NZ and maybe where he is from that's politically correct. If he comes to NYC and calls one of our neighborhoods "slum" and someone overhears him .........
I mean, I can understand why you don't like that word. And I think you raise a good point about the different meanings a term can carry in different countries. But in many parts of the world a "slum" is just what they call the area where lots of people live close together in cheap housing. There's no judgment attached. It's just a word to describe an area.
Thanks for confirming that Dan. Hi Visulino, I’m sorry if you take that away from my videos but just to be clear; The widely accepted and commonly used vernacular by the people living in the areas that you mention directly translates to slum in English. For example: Favela - definition: ‘a Brazilian shack or shanty town; a slum.’ I hope that helps clear things up and have a great day.
I see both sides of the use of the word "slum". However, in this case, I note well that Visulino lives in NYC as I do. And Visulino is spot on correct that if you are in NYC and you are in a neighborhood that you call "a slum" right there and then....well, you may find yourself in deep shit. I spent a chunk of time traveling in NZ, and I greatly enjoyed NZ. Beautiful country and wonderful people.
everybody calls slums because that’s the name for it, even the people that live there call it slum. It’s not disrespectful at all, if you think “slum” is offensive that’s you’re problem. maybe you should change the way you think
Not everybody uses "slum". In NYC, the word "slum" is no longer used by local politicians seeking office. The local news media very rarely use the word "slum". And, travelers to NYC who venture widely are well advised to avoid the word along with some other terms. In the 1970's, yes you often would hear that word. But, no longer....unless you want to invite trouble. Specific examples exist, but I will stop here by saying two more facts. I am being realistic while you are being idealistic. As far as people living there calling it a "slum", that may be true in rare cases....but they control the word.
