Great video. In 1968 I took about 5 older boys from the camp we were from across the upper Great Range. We did Gothics, Saddleback ,Basin, Haystack, then down the Phelps trail. 20 miles total. Dark when we reached Garden parking lot. No Marcy but we had all had climbed it. I climbed Marcy 6 times, always from Avalanche lake, Feldspar, Lake Tear and 4 corners loop.
I had no idea about the Saddleback Cliffs so when we got there after Gothics and Saddleback summit, we just descended them. Pretty cool. Crystal clear sky, 70 degrees. One of the great days of my life. I can say I climbed in the Great Range. I was always blessed with great weather on hikes. I climbed 16 of the 46 and many several times as well ass smaller ones and don't remember one day that was not clear.
Such a cool video in a majestic place
Nice video! I wish I could do those cliffs but I think I’ll do Saddleback from the other side thank you! Lol
Do Haystack and Algonquin. (To different trips) Two best views in the high peaks.
I did Haystack alongside Redfield Gray Peak and Skylight during my 21 hour hike from the Calamity Brook Trail to the John Brooks Lodge
Did you go through Panther Gorge to Skylight? That's a great bundle.
@@kenkaplan3654 I followed the Marcy Trail to Skylight and then went the back way up Haystack
@@kevinvesuviusevilmowgli Did that take you through the Gorge to Haystack from 4 corners or is there another way? I think that's the only way from Skylight
@@kenkaplan3654 it’s called the Elk Lake/Marcy Trail
@@kevinvesuviusevilmowgli Thanks. Saw some signs on video but never went there. Used to be lean tos at 4 corners and Lake Tear back in the day. maybe 5 cars in the parking lot at the Loj at most
Looking at the Adirondaks for my next trip. How many miles did you hike total that day? And how many were between each mountian from the start? Are trails and junctions well marked to know where you're going?
Total trip is around 20. Haystack is about 7 or 8 in. The other two are pretty close. Try to squeeze in Gothics. I went Gothics, Saddleback, down SB cliffs to Basin, back down Basin to Haystack, Haystack to Phelps trail back to Garden parking lot. Start early, very early (5-6 AM). Pick a really nice day. Don't waste the climbs on no or lousy views.
nice video I went to the high peaks about a month after this video was uploaded and I did Cascade, Porter, Algonquin, Giant, and Phelps.
Algonquin is my favorite mountain with a spectacular view. Giant holds a special place in my heart. I was the first counselor from my summer camp to lead a trip up Giant. We went via the Ridge. Years later I went with a group via Roaring Brook Trail. Years after that I went to Roaring Brook Falls but no time to climb Giant. I found a rock about the size of a baseball nestled right in the heart of a fallen tree. Must have been there hundreds if not thousands of years. Tree grew around it. I took it home. I still have it.
Climb Noonmark. Phenomenal views, especially of Giant, Range and Dix range. A real little bear of a hike. Wish I had climbed Dix. Did Cascade and Porter many times.
I submit Kevin has to say “wholely guacamole” at every beautiful view shot from here on out!
Will turn it into a catch phrase 😂😂
Awesome video loved it! Did you guys start from the garden parking lot And do you remember how many miles it was from the parking lot to haystack?
I thin k they had to start from the Garden because video stars at JBL.
