    I owned a 2001 ktm250sx as a kid and it was absolutely bulletproof. Before I got my 2021 690 enduro I heard about the reliability issues but those are with the 790's 890's and bigger bikes. The 690 is a tried and trued motor and it's been a very very good bike for the first 5k miles. No issues. Although I will say I don't think I'm guna mod it other than the muffler and 02 dongle because all the high mileage bikes have a stock airbox.
    Also I do believe the 690's are still built in Austria

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  17 днів тому

      Nice! The Rottweiler airbox makes a big difference. Just keep the filter clean and I don't see an issue. Dirt bikes have a similar air filter system and do just fine. It just has to mapped right. I might get a custom tune just to make sure the tuning is 100%. This bike has been out for a long time now to work out the kinks.

    Bikes have one thing in common with ag tractors that farmers buy. No matter how popular or unpopular a brand is, it boils down to the service after you get item first from the dealer then the factory. The dealer can often make or break a brand.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  7 днів тому

      That is true. However, so far, I've never had to ever contact a dealer after I bought a Japanese bike, zero issues (knock on wood).

    • @CycleCruza

      Gas mileage so far is about 43 mpg, about the same as my 2019 YZ450FX supermoto. Only time will tell with reliability. I'll keep you all updated like I always do.

      Stock seat is not as bad as some say but a little stiff. The KTM comfort seat is great to me, maybe not as cush as a Seat Concepts seat like I have on my YZ450FX but not nearly as expensive as one either.

    In 1983 I bought a Yamaha tt600 which is a dirt bike, but always like the streets. So at that point in time the only street tire that was a 21-in was designed for the Harley Sportster that had the 21-in front wheel, so I put Street dreads on my tt600, so basically I made a super moto bike before there was even such a thing as supermoto, and I loved it. Loved it! Got a KTM 690r at the present, then I'm kicking around doing the same thing too. But I got two other street bikes so I don't know what I'm going to do at this point.

    The wiring behind the headlight mask on my 500EXCF is kind of a rats nest. The seat can also be a pain to get on and off. My KTM and BMW both use a lot of torx fasteners. I’m ok with that. It IS important to use quality tools on them and if your bits are showing any wear replace them or they will strip. I bought mine at KTMWorld. They have an excellent parts website. Check em out.

      Spot on. German and Austrian engineers and business owners are really excited about technology. The reason BMW bikes and Mercedes cars, KTMs have reliability issues is because they load everything up with electronics. As someone who has been working in the Software department industry, I can tell you: development is iterative by nature, so usually it takes 4-5 development cycles for a major change to become reliable. However these companies want to be first to market so they introduce major changes concurrently. That's a lot of complexity and failure opportunity. The engine itself However is sound and best in class.
