- I test the new TRD Air Filters for 3.5L Turbo Engines plus we try with and without engine cover/silencer. Is it worth the money to change and can you tell a different just in driving experience? PN #PTR0334220
OK boss; here’s the deal. There are two types of fuel injection, Toyota uses…, port and direct. This vehicle the 2024 tundra has both Port and direct. 👍 The direct injection is used on the Eco mode, because it’s is metered precisely to give you better mileage, but it does not clean off your valves as it gets squirted into the combustion chamber. it will allow carbon deposits on the valves if you use it Eco mode.. at around 60,000 miles on your valves. It’s much better to drive it in sport or sport plus mode so that the Tundra can switch to the port injection mode.. that mode cleans your valves as it squirts gasoline over your valves and then into the combustion chamber (over the exhaust valves). As far as TRD air filters go, you better buy 4.. so you can easily swap them out at each cleaning.. because you need to clean and re oil them… It’s best to totally let the oil dry for a few days before installing it back in , so you don’t mess up your air fuel map sensors in the air tubes.. that excess oil can reck them .. El
the best mod you can do to a vehicle is paying down the debt faster......................
Just buy it outright and avoid financing at all! 😁
I did the Trd filters. I for sure noticed a difference in the turbo noise. It’s subtle still but definitely better.
Nice video. My truck didn't come with an engine cover. I considered those filters too.. I ended up splurging and got the jb4 tuner for my 2023 tundra limited and it made huge power. Way more than any intake or filters. More boost makes the truck louder too!
how bout the mpgs?
Appreciate the vid and time to post up ...
Thx mate!
Yes worth it, better gas mileage and better performance
I feel the same power increase when I put new stickers on my rear bumper .
Good point…. I did notice a major horsepower gain when I put on the red TRD value stem covers… 😄
@@rant-n-rave7816 obviously because of the massive weight reduction from the heavy factory valve stem covers .
@@TeXasDadBod I think those valve stem covers added 50 HP
My truck gain another 10hp with trd pro badge
@@dangkhang9479 Try the red valve stem caps, it’ll add another 10
These new drivetrains are awesome, but Ford hit the sweet spot with the 2.7 ecoboost. I get 27mpg with a 4x4 super crew at 65mph. And with 400 ft lbs it’s no slouch. I still would love to try out one of these Tundras!
SR5 will always be king, "plain jane no problems" nice horsepower and I can put anything under the rear bench seat and have REAL lexus engine noise"
I think the fake noise sounds pretty good 😊
Ya me too 😂 that’s why I didn’t disable it 👍🏼
The 5.7L sounds way better. Especially the 30-50MPH chug. The next best sound comes in about 4k RPM.
Two things, #1 without something to read decibels you can't be sure of sound. #2 theoretically because the filters give more air flow, you should get better mpgs and a slight bump in h.p. I just picked my 2 up for $77 and in the long run, that's cheaper then changing out paper air filters....just my 2 cents.
where did you buy yours? thanks
Honestly, I plan on having the dealer turn off the fake engine noise so I can hear the turbos on mine. As far as the air filters, I don't plan on doing anything really to mine. The power gains are probably negligible at best. If you really want more power, you need to tune the turbos.
11.2 liter or MPG?
I also drive in ECO, and I don't mind the piped-in noise in my PRO. I was thinking of adding these, but probably won't now lol
Let me know if the AFE makes a difference please with their air filters and with these TRD ones installed. And ya, I’m digging the augmentation I guess 🤷🏻♂️
@@rant-n-rave7816 I will if go that route...I'm surprised TRD doesn't have one. I came so close to buying the TRD filters when I changed the break-in oil last week.
@@jagaro I’m with you on that one but maybe their engineers Thought about it and figured the reward for the intake is so slight it’s not worth the expense and people won’t buy it 🤔🤷🏻♂️. I’ll tell you though man, I still have my T-Rex order in and I love this truck so much I’m leaning to cancel it!
@@rant-n-rave7816 You're likely right. That's a crazy truck, for sure and undoubtedly would be a ton of fun! I'm really enjoying the PRO, as does my wife. It's funny to watch her drive it...she's so tiny behind the driver's seat 😂
I think it sound a little better but not enough for the cost of the TRD filters
not for nothing but if you plan on trading in under 60k miles and don't care about getting to 2-300k miles drop em in. check out project farm's filter test...k&n lets way more dirt into the engine...that said I did buy a pair to try lol...cool video
Smart man… keep them stock and change them more often.., if you need more air flow? Those race filters are for people that don’t care about the longevity of their engines.. way more supper tiny dirt particles will get into your system using the Hi flow type..
Does anyone know how to turn off the seat belt chime. I wear my seatbelt because I think it’s a good idea but it’s also my choice. But I don’t need a seatbelt on when I’m in a field on my property backing up to a trailer etc. it is annoying and unnecessary to hear. Thanks for any help
Would love to see the same video without the engine sound. I turned mine off and i'm liking it much more.
What % tint do you have. Looks great.
Xpel XR Prime ceramic limo all the way around, clear on windshield and sunroof. No heat gets in with ceramic, we do it to all our vehicles and it’s the only way to go!
I am not getting Toyota’s line of thinking for the newer Tundras and Tacomas. Priced out my 2015 SR5 TRD off-road in the new 2024 and it is around $70k. My 5.7 V8 gets almost 16 mpg (currently at 15.9). Seems like with all the new digital displays and whatnot it’s just more stuff to break. I think they look great, but I don’t get spending $60k+ for what seems like less truck.
Just remember, fewer restrictions mean more dirt. If you do this, change your oil more often or clean that filter every 1000 miles.
TRD Filters look eerily similar to K&N. Are these oiled?
Yes and they recommend k&n oil when cleaning them
Actually made by AFE
I saw an increase in power as well as gas mileage. I think they are worth the price.
Lol no you didnt
3.4?
I find that I hear the turbos more at low rpm driving normal, when your taking off.
You know, I thought I heard a little bit of turbo whine but it’s so faint over the augmented engine sounds, I couldn’t be sure. Not sure it’s worth a couple hundreds bucks though, 😂 🤷🏻♂️, oh well, glad I didn’t drop $800 on a complete intake system this is all I can expect. Thx for the post and watching 👌🏼👍🏼
@@rant-n-rave7816 The piped in sound doesn’t bother me one bit. I have those filters and I can say you can definitely hear the turbos more and really only hear them at lower RPMs. For what it’s worth the best consistent gas mileage was with those in and the truck definitely feels a little snappier. I live in New England so I took them out in the salt season of winter and I will leave them out during the pollen of spring. I don’t trust the protection of those type of filters during those seasons
@@alexthomasiii225 Great points Alex, over here in Commifornia it’s the dusty trails in the desert that bother us. The Mall-crawling is no big deal for the filters… It may be a little snappier and ya, I left the augmentation sounds on too. I was going to disable them and do a video with it all off but really it’s not that big of a deal to me unlike my Raptor which I hated. That sound Ford pipped in was terrible. Again, filters are cool, just not sure if you’re on a budget it’s worth the upgrade for the little gain it may provide 👍🏼
@@rant-n-rave7816 Commifornia lol my dealer is letting em go for 35 each don't know if I wanna do it yet to my limited
With all due respect, how could an artificial "pre-programed 3 mode sound" be changed by altering an air flow. If microphone had been placed by muffler ... (maybe)!? The sound in the cabine will remain the same, due to it's insulation and will not change UNLESS ... you change muffler(s), unrestrict chips limiting HP, etc. Even then sound would not have come from the engine bay. Only difference in measurements, both qualitative and quantitative would be visible on DANO & by dB reader. Plus the augmented sound is mandatory (I believe) on all EVs for estimating/realizing +/- own speed by noise level.
I love the look of those TRD filters though LOL
Well actually that’s not always the case NewYork2T. My Raptor had augmented exhaust notes pumped into the cab and when I installed the Whipple intake and air filter, it added ALOT of sound. I was hoping to get the same out of these but it didn’t happen. Not a big deal, they still look good under the hood and they made the truck look better 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mileage is bad got a 23 TRD Pro Tundra and I’m averaging 19-20MPG per fill up drive 50/50 city and highway in Houston,TX
I never saw better than 14….. usually averaged 11-12….. but I still loved the truck compared to my GM’s and Fords…. 🤷🏻♂️
i did the trd filter and noticed NO difference
thank you! I was thinking about it but don't think I'll notice the difference for the money spent plus I think I prefer the new filters every 12 months
Toyota should make it possible to disable the fake engine sound. In certain Lexus models it is possible to turn off fake engine noise via "ASC" knob.
The funny thing also is that the lower trim Tundra's don't come with the fake engine sound.
All good points! 👍🏼
It has
You can disable
@@lns4048 How? Is there a way besides having Toyota do it?
@@twisterbretyou can disable it with Carista app without taking it to toyota
you only buy them once , paper filters are like $12 each it will pay for themselves over time
That mileage is terrible! My 23 sr5 Offroad DC is getting in the 17’s (2500 miles) and I don’t baby it at all. Hard acceleration on entrance ramps. Maneuver around slower people on highway, etc.
I just did a 2 hour trip in my tundra and got 24mpg
Lol! 11.2MPG? My 5.7, any time I check, almost always says 12.4MPG. Mixed use driving, some country roads, some being a goof, some idle time.
Ya, that’s on a good day. Sometimes I wax getting 8 & 10 😂
@RANT -N- RAVE Seriously? That's trailer towing, 4500-5000lbs with long hills MPG. I don't even think I've ever seen an average in the 8's or less.
@@thnksno Ya, if I drive it in town like I normally do, it’s 8-10. If I baby it I’m around 11….. 🤷🏻♂️
I get no fake engine noise
they should have at least made the v8 an option in the tundra???????right!!!
Government regulations are causing these car dealers to make new vehicles and trucks more eco-friendly thanks to you all voting blue…
Man my v8 tundra is at 12.9 average.
11.2? Try to set your mpg on per trip not average in menus.. it will give you true number of mpg. Using standard mpg will never be accurate because it could take 40 miles a trip to check real time and if you keep driving under 40 miles a day it will never be accurate. You are supposed to reset mpg every time if you're on average if you didn't know.. that's only for long distance trips and stopping 2 or three times. Smh mpg per trip can help with finding the best gas as well. I've found difference in different places filling up once a week.
Bro 11.2 is terrible! That better be with towing im 17.9 with traffic and I live in Washington where it's not flat and you csm totally here and different if you actually open your windows and turn off the fake engine noise
Installed them and no difference.
But don’t you feel better knowing those are in there? Kind of matches all that extra horsepower you get for putting in synthetic blend oils, premium fuels, nitrogen filled tires and red valve stems for your tires 😂 If you added fuzzy dice, you’ll get an extra 20 HP if you didn’t already know.
@RANT -N- RAVE , I forgot about the fuzzy dice...you have a discount code? 😁
😆 nitro
I wondered who would watch the video to the end and see that! 😂😂👍🏼 Thx for watching and the sub man!
Constantly says contradictory statements....
11 mpg that is bad
Actually, that was a good day…….😂
Anytime fake noise has to be produced means you bought the wrong car. Ill stick with the V8 tundras. Proven reliability with real noise
Lol sounds like a motorcycle
i did not here a difference.
Ya, I’m with you on that man. I think it’s a placebo for the sound because i readily didn’t either…. But….. oh well, I sleep better now knowing those are in there 😂
the V8 sound comes through the speekers........Lol!!!!! thats a democrat truck
