Picked one of these up in Tokyo last week in the same blue gray. Love the look and feel of it. The app needs some work but if they update it to allow integration into Apple/Google that will fix most of my gripes. Only gripe is the app is a bit lacking, the polar reporting is good, but I wish you could start an exercise from the app rather than just via the watch interface. Overall, if you are in the market for something a little different at a really good price point I couldn't recommend it enough.

Thanks for not replying... I bought this watch after owning the GW-B5600. Took it back. I still use my previous one which I bought for 200 euros at an airport. It is solar-powered. It is also a Bluetooth version and it comes with a metal strap adjusted perfectly to fit my small wrist. Believe me, you don't need anything else. This upgrade is a gimmick to corner the market. You need to charge the battery, you say..? Forget that! Neve had an issue with my version. And it comes in black!
Saw this one today in local store, was searching for something thinner than my GWF-1000. I was stunned by this display. I knew it's good and legible, but after seeing it with my own eyes I am jealous AF now. Man, it's just another dimension, viewing angles and legibility are ridiculous. Holy cow, holy bull, amazing readability, superior contrast, wow. But, surprisingly, this thing is almost as thick as my Frog. Thanks to that sensor, it's 17.5mm THICC. That's a lot for a square one. Soft rubber band is also very comfortable. Feels pretty nice, but it's just way too thick. Also not sure if all those fitness features are really needed, cycling through menu took longer than I anticipated. Overall, kinda controversial watch. Really nice display, but it's thick on your wrist and costs more than your average beater, for such price there are watches like GW-5000(U) or GWM-5000 that have screwbacks and are just way more reliable and 'g-shocky' than this one. But this display is like future is here. Something like GW-5000(U) with such MIP display would be THE top seller and one of the best G, that's for sure. They really need to make more models with that fancy display. I would love my GWF-1000 to have such readability. But it feels like Casio just doesn't want us to have the perfect G, because if you just buy perfect one, you won't buy others, right? Feels_sad_man. P.S. did I tell that this display is just beyond cool? Damn.
Excellent watch. I was unsure about purchasing one but after watching your video I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get one, and I love the color choice you chose.
I have the GBD200 that has the MIP display and doesn’t have the irritation on the wrist from the heart rate sensor. I had the GBDH1000 and that model was way too BIG for me!
This thing is just an amazing combo of fitness tracking, great always on display and amazing g-shock... and at least for me the app seems to be doing all I'm interested in: tracking my pulse in activities or over the day... super tempted to give it a try.
Great review and very comprehensive. Is it possible to display date as DATE:MONTH rather than MONTH:DATE? I hate the US style of displaying the Date! Thanks.
I just picked one of these up at the G Shock London store for £183 (vs. original list price of £269). At this price, it is a bona fide bargain. Great looking watch, the display is incredibly sharp (better than the GBX or GBD models), you can turn off all the fitness functions so it behaves like a "normal" G Shock and it will last 11 months between charges...but if you do want to measure heart rate, VO2 max or your see how you performed in your Parkrun...you can. So if you can snag one of these at a discount, you can get the watch you want "without all the fitness stuff", you just have to switch those functions off. I also recently bought the GCW B5000, and if they had put a MIP display into that watch, it would have been beyond perfect (it is kinda perfect as is, even with the legacy module).
I'm surprised by the hate, I've been interested in a more 'standard' looking G with a HRM... For me it's a nice alternative to my big Garmin Fenix and full on Galaxy smart watch. Definitely gonna pick one up for my work as a first responder tough as a coffin nail with some added fitness metrics if I want to pop to the gym on the way home or see how much my HR went up at that particularly stressful job! 😅 Winner. 👍🏻
I have one and I'm quite happy with it but I didn't buy it as a fitness tracker. No issues with monitor buldge on the back. I thought I would hate that bump but can't really feel it.
I have the GBD-H2000. I love it so much, I’m somewhere between like you are when it comes to these. I’m not a fitness fanatic but like the odd feature for walking and riding. I love G-Shock and wanted this 5600 so bad when I saw it announced but that sensor on the back looks like it may be a bit uncomfortable especially in the summer. I think for now I’ll stick with the H2000 which has all of the features the 5600 has and many more plus is surprisingly super comfortable. Cool video man, cheers.
In my opinion solar is way overrated. Normally a Casio watch with solar is around double the price (compared to similar models without solar) and you can't keep it in a bag for travel etc (not a huge issue but kind of a pain for me). And the battery lifetime is only around double that of the non solar models with the same screen (while being around x20 the cost - if it's even replaceable which it often isn't on sports devices and smart g shocks - which means the whole device goes in the garbage after a few years).
The obvious next step is a GBX with a solar module. Although the GBX is actually kinda annoying, as despite being a ‘surf’ watch the tides are for ports, not surf spots
@@nitsanI feel you are giving this a bad name as I have had a solar powered version since 2018 and never had an issue. I am the issue now. I want a larger screen as my eyes don’t see so well so this kind of screen will do what my eyes cannot do…Let me see more. You would agree there is a watch type for everyone out there. These don’t seem to be for you perhaps. Throw in the garbage, a bag..? Never. That would be a waste of money, don’t you agree? Size is the only thing I see being its obstacle for many enthusiasts.
I have a Garmin Instinct Solar, which offers many workout routines, including several for various forms of bicycling. Does the DW H5600 offer any workout routine for cyclists?
I don't know why many people are crying in the comments about "health features". If you don't like using these features then don't use them, it's that simple. But options are good for everyone who want them.
What are the notifications like? The gbd-200s are not good enough, you either have to pick every notification off your phone or none of them. Have they fixed that?
I clicked on this video because I love the look of this watch. Ideally I want a watch that has the same display and has both solar and atomic time keeping functions. Does such a watch exist ? And oh yes , great review !
Instead of tightening up and making the square a little smaller Casio decides to make it even bigger! And then proceeds to add a load of functions few are interested. Keep the MIP, reduce the size substantially, give us back PROPER battery life by eliminating all those non-watch functions. If MIP won't allow proper battery develop e-ink displays or something. A GM-S5600 with MIP or similar would be great, small but legible.
Fair review ultimately just depends what you are looking for. For those that just want the square with an MIP display I do totally get the frustration though
An Octagon would be 8 sides of equal length. I think that's why it's still referred to as a square. The sides are not equal so it's more of a square with the corners trimmed down.
For those that think the features are useless, I'd argue that the features are quite addictive. I found I was wearing my Garmin Fenix as a daily watch because I loved tracking my sleep, heart rate, my movements on a map, etc. This new G-shock will appeal to data nerds and you won't know if that's you till you try it.
I was really keen to get the dark blue with metal bezel but its not available in the UK apparently ( why not 🤷🏻♂️) so ended up getting the 200 model in blue. Half the price and MIP display with a few goodies like step count 👍
Seems to be the case in multiple countries where certain models within this series haven't released 🤔 Nice work though! Congrats & thanks for watching!
Easily the nicest explanation watch channel out there & i was surprised to see less than 20k subs. Anyways I subscribed. Lovely b roll (great how close to the watch it is) & ofc you do epic job at reviewing. 👏
Would be cool to be an almost entirely g shock focused channel. I own a few, but I still feel like the world of g shocks is foreign to me. I’d like to buy more, especially because I’m a dock builder, I could really use certain feature rich pieces
Agree but no need sapphire crystal, Casio would never put them on a standard G anyway, MB6 not necessarily needed as it’s so easy to link with phone once a day to update.
This is exactly the type of watch I've been looking for. It's kinda surprising this is the only kind they made since most people don't wouldn't want most of these features tho
A G Shock today should do what the earlier G Shocks do. Stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 alarms, hourly time, and preferably tough solar. That’s it. Maybe world time, but NO more than that. That’s what is at the heart of the G Shock brand. That’s what we love. Practical and tough. Not fiddly and complicated. I wear a POSITIVE display GXW56 King with gold bull bars. Solar powered miracle. It’s all I need or want.
It leaves a wonderful puppy paw mark on the wrist, plus, it's f***ing thick. The Casio GBD200 comes with some of his functions, the mip display, a better blue color and a better shape. For a lower price. And you can use apps like GadgetBridge instead of the crappy Casio app to connect it to the phone. Really, this one is a cheeseburger on a strap sitting on the wrist!
How accurate is the sleep tracker? I suspect that I have sleep apnea and want a watch with a REALLY accurate sleep tracking feature. Also, what battery life could be expected if all other fitness/health features are disabled? Could it entirely rely on its solar cell? I want a watch that is self sustaining, that I can just slap on my wrist and know that it will "take care of itself", but I also need a (reliable) sleep tracker, and I think this G-shock is as close to my needs as possible, but I'm not sure how reliable it is
do the fitness functions like heart rate and blood oxygen level tracking work if you wear the watch face on the inside wrist instead of outside? I like to wear it like that sometimes
I wish 1 of my gmw-b5000 had this display. It's honestly my favorite watch right now so I'd like to compare/contrast it to the current setup of these amazing watches.
So I wonder why they have the “Solar Powered” functionality, which is really just a power assist. It’s not the same as “Tough Solar” which fully powers the watch. So you still have to attach it to an external charger, which stinks.
Just one question, does the watch Bluetooth always "on" or can it be turned off? I wish Casio could make a GShock with an updated display tech for the non fitness models instead of using the same old LCD. And how well does the display (negative display) do in a low light environment? Can you read the time by looking at certain angles?? I'm not really a fan of negative displays though.
Hey! You don't have to activate Bluetooth and can use the watch entirely by itself! This MIP display is awesome so you won't have any trouble viewing it in low lighting! Thanks for watching :)
I like the square design and the display and the fact that it has Solar charging assist. But fuck everything else. I'd get a Mi Band on my right for that.
I would love this without less sports funcionality and thus with less thickness. MIP screen looks great and the solar power with smart features is a great combo.
No way. The back alone is a deal-breaker. That thing is two stories tall. Next, that bezel effing pops off....by design!!! And if that wasn't bas enough, the solar can't even keep it powered a week with a bunch of the options turned on. What's the point? Sorry, Casio. I just went back to my trusty, dusty 5610. I'll check in again on the next iteration and see if they've cleaned up their act a bit.
great color, great display. thats it.
introduce this color and this display onto the regular DW squares and it'll sell like nuts.

TRUE. Just a standard watch with this display and if it's solar, it's unbeatable. 😂

Believe me, you don't need anything else. This upgrade is a gimmick to corner the market.
You need to charge the battery, you say..?
Forget that!
Neve had an issue with my version.
And it comes in black!
Okay, the case color is nice. Now give us the MIP display in the classic, non-inflated 5600 format with time only, thanks.
Damn.
Hello!
Are there any function differences between GBD-H2000 and DW-H5600?
Thank you
Excellent watch. I was unsure about purchasing one but after watching your video I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get one, and I love the color choice you chose.
Thanks a lot Todd & enjoy yours! 😁
Would buy one when it’s just a plain watch. Maybe just Solar & Atomic Time.
I'm in the former camp, I'd like to see a basic mip display slimmer with standard features. Come on g shock!
I have the GBD200 that has the MIP display and doesn’t have the irritation on the wrist from the heart rate sensor. I had the GBDH1000 and that model was way too BIG for me!
You can try gsw h1000, more better.
Thanks.
Cant do the firmware update on the watch. It just says it failed. Apparantly many seems to have this exact issue.
Love that! Congratulations on your pick ups & thank you for watching!
😅 Winner. 👍🏻
As other have said: I want exactly this design but with standard features and flat backside. Why is the MIP not standard???
You didn't really show or explain any of the functions. I might check out the London Zoo though when I'm in the area.
I love casio g shock...this dw h5600 is a must have for me...all black is my style
It’s so much better!! I love it
I have one and I'm quite happy with it but I didn't buy it as a fitness tracker. No issues with monitor buldge on the back. I thought I would hate that bump but can't really feel it.
I find that the additional height affords it more wrist presence, and that was the clincher for me. Frustrating little thing but glad I got one.
Love this! You're right, the GBD-H2000 is awesome! Congrats on yours & thanks a lot for the kind words! :)
Yup, we just want a mip square without all the complications.
17mm thick is absolutely ridiculous, I love the mip , my dream one is a g lide tide with mip and solar .. are they going to do that?
@@nitsan Can't keep it in a bag? It's only double the lifetime? If it's replaceable? ... You obviously know nothing about solar powered watches.
So ‘solar assisted’ doesn’t mean that it can remain charged exclusively via solar / light?
Don't want fitness tracker.. Just want normal DW with mip display!!!
I have a Garmin Instinct Solar, which offers many workout routines, including several for various forms of bicycling. Does the DW H5600 offer any workout routine for cyclists?
Just give me a G-Lide with the new display and a barometer function. Is that too much to ask for Casio?
I don't know why many people are crying in the comments about "health features".
If you don't like using these features then don't use them, it's that simple.
But options are good for everyone who want them.
Went to go but this last week.
Saw it in person, didn’t get it. Doesn’t feel like a $300 watch.
All of London is a zoo these days, but I digress.... Nice watch! Love G Shock square.
😬😅 - thanks a lot for watching!
So true. Should leave it to the real animals..! Zoo..? Silly idea. Prison, more like.
My current daily is GW-B5600. Same features with MIP is the replacement I'm waiting for.
Hi, does the running tracker works without the phone connected to the watch? does it have the GPS? thanks!
A GM-S5600 with MIP or similar would be great, small but legible.
i like that blue/gray color too
wondering if its too big for a woman's wrist, i hope its not
Hello, I have a DW-H5600 and I cannot synchronize with the application, could you please help me, I am from Spain
Casio, please just give us an regular square with MIP display and solar power. That is
Agree!!! 👍
Casio!!! Just a 5600 with a MIP display please.
Exactly
Put a MIP display on the GW-M5610U and that will be my forever watch. Don't need any of the fitness fluff on a G-Shock.
Easily the nicest explanation watch channel out there & i was surprised to see less than 20k subs. Anyways I subscribed. Lovely b roll (great how close to the watch it is) & ofc you do epic job at reviewing. 👏
Man thank you so much! 🤝 legend!
I got one but I turned off the heart rate, blood oxygen and left it in airplane mode. I just want a gshock with an awesome display
Is this module the same as in the GBX-100? Same brightness etc or is the H5600 a slight upgrade?
Square with mips, multiband 6 and tough solar and bluetooth.
100% 🫡 thanks for watching!
Would be cool to be an almost entirely g shock focused channel. I own a few, but I still feel like the world of g shocks is foreign to me. I’d like to buy more, especially because I’m a dock builder, I could really use certain feature rich pieces
Casio please make a 5600 with the following features!
1. MIP display
2. Solar
3. Multiband 6
4. Sapphire Glass
Just give us a simple updated GW-M5610, with the DW-H5600 MIP screen, drop the extra bulk and silly functions!!
I want a watch that is self sustaining, that I can just slap on my wrist and know that it will "take care of itself", but I also need a (reliable) sleep tracker, and I think this G-shock is as close to my needs as possible, but I'm not sure how reliable it is
Can you confirm that the size is exactly the same as the dw-5600/5610 (apart from the thickness)?
looks nice but it doesnt has radio controled time set. if they made this watch with that feature, that would be great with that look.
The color of the watch in the thumbnail is shockingly different from that of in the video.
Is it intentional?
How the bike tracking works? It works for outdoor biking or only indoors?
do the fitness functions like heart rate and blood oxygen level tracking work if you wear the watch face on the inside wrist instead of outside? I like to wear it like that sometimes
Lets hope they release,,, a slim version, half cost, less features , with less text on display !
I wish 1 of my gmw-b5000 had this display. It's honestly my favorite watch right now so I'd like to compare/contrast it to the current setup of these amazing watches.
Wish they could update software in GBD200... atleast making the notification and menu better. Still a good Watch
Dumb question 🙋🏽♂️: he said it has the activity feature, does that mean it can pair with activity /health feature on the apple phone ?
No such thing as a dumb question! It only pairs with the Casio watches app though, thanks for watching!
I want a metal g square with mib display and solar . Not even blue tooth in that.
where did you get it for 269???
@@TimeDrops_ thank you for your time to reply. Keep up the good work.
@@teomai Thank you! 😁
If you can't change the date format to DD/MM, I'm not touching it!
Looks great overall but the sensor really is bulky, and the price is not great for 2023, it would be great in 2013
I like the square design and the display and the fact that it has Solar charging assist. But fuck everything else. I'd get a Mi Band on my right for that.
Exactly what I currently do. I don’t want my watch ever running out of juice and fitness features are ever evolving.
can it pause/next audio on our smarthphone ?
I would love this without less sports funcionality and thus with less thickness. MIP screen looks great and the solar power with smart features is a great combo.
This is a beauty. Wow
Does anyone know if you can set the date to read normal .. ie not American so it shows date/month not month/date ?? Thanks
Where did you get yours from??? Not yet available in the UK is it??
Really like this one. Turned all the Fitness stuff off. Only using Bluetooth for sync to phone and receiving messages. Great watch.
Why a "bio-based carbonfiber reinforced resin" is environmentally friendly?
Could sy. explain this?
Does this come in an all black version solar powered version?
Great clear video. I like the way you explain all your watches in detail.
Thanks
It’s a beautiful watch, I love the features it’s perfect for what I want but not for $300.😢
G-Shock DW-H5600 looks great! Personally, I will take an Apple Watch 100%, but still it looks appealing.
Does it show cal and message notifications?
