This is awesome! thanks for sharing!
This is a great idea for someone working on a really tight budget, but for any sort of real filmmaking those LEDs are most likely not consistent in their color. Do you have a way to check the CRE values of the LEDs and see if they provide accurate values? My biggest concern with a setup like this would be multiple tubes not matching each other, or an even more likely scenario would be these lights not matching tungsten or daylight bulbs
Thanks. I understand the concern, but since this light is not meant to be used as a key light, color accuracy isn’t much of my concern. When it’s used just as a practical in shot, It’ll be fine, color shift isn’t much important there. And it’ll definitely be better than a regular fluorescent tube. Plus, I feel like I could possibly use this tube underwater with some modifications
I attempted something somewhat similar with Barrina branded 5600k led lights. Instead of painting I used masking tape which lead to similar layering issues when applied incorrectly. That and having to apply a different color masking tape for every application made it a bit of a pain.
I figured that I should have applied layering further away from the light, this way it would be way more even and consistent, but I’d probably use the whole can of paint for that
