To the segment at the beginning:
Appreciate you for speaking up on this topic and reinforcing everybody to take Haikyu!! as an example to inspire self-trust and growth.
I've been through a lot, but somehow I always manage to keep my head up high no matter how sad or broken I feel.
A few years ago, I realized why that is, so I wanted to share this enlightenment with everybody who needs to hear this.
It's simple, it's because I AM able to feel sad, destroyed, down, broken, and all these other things. The fact that I genuinely feel these emotions proves that I still want something else from my life. Me feeling sad is proof that subconsciously I haven't given up yet, so my only choice is to accept that and keep going.
Lachy, if you read this, thank you, and don't you ever dare to change, you are great. If you find this helpful I wouldn't be against pinning this comment so others can see idk.
Have fun on the rest of your Haikyu!! journey :)

I have watched Haikyuu countless times but I can't say I ever watched many reaction channels because there's often a lack of genuine interest or at least directed interest at the show itself and what it seeks to show. People often see it as a popular show and look to get easy engagement off the hype moments and ignore the smaller details that you always stop for and analyze. I can confidently say not everyone is here purely for Haikyuu, you exude an interest and passion for both volleyball and content creation that is easy to get sucked into and was rewarding to watch from even the first reaction video I saw of yours.

I can see what you mean since I've seen the channels you are talking about but I can't relate at the same time. It's all about who you watch, in my experience, almost every single reactor that I've watched clearly turned into a big fan or even became obssessed with the show (Sarah Pavan is one example, Bold Cast if we're talking about non-volleyball reactors). Sure, a few notice less details than others but that doesnt necessarily mean they didnt love it. In my opinion, sometimes you have to carefully choose who you watch with x shows, you can easily tell when someone is going to be someone you will enjoy watching in the first episodes.

    • @InSamniac777
      @InSamniac777 Місяць тому +3

@@LixienXIII Absolutely agree, Ive had tough it out for a few reactors just to see if and when they change and they can be rewarding, Sarah is easily the best example cause of her insight into vb. It's just nice to have someone like lachy who really pays attention to everything but also understands a lot of the weird anime tropes and cliches (maybe not the diarrhea pressure point thing but who tf does), which means he can look past the weird stuff to get to the actual meaning which I feel is often not the case for a lot of reactors.

@@InSamniac777yeah I getcha, the first time I watched someone with a bg in Volleyball watch Haikyuu was Coach Donny (Elevate Yourself), he's practically the og of "Volleyball player reacts to Haikyuu" and while that was nice, he konda struggled keeping up with the show. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan but it was like watcjing your boomer father watching anime and asking all the time what's happening lol.
Then Sarah Pavan instantly became my favourite but while she clearly pays attention and is easily top 5 reactors she's also clearly a new anime fan. She's like your mother watching anime but she actually became obssesed and is paying attention.
Lachy has like the perfect balance now. He has a Volleyball bg, but also he gets anime like our generation does. He's basically your brother who's an anime fan.
We're getting a family here lmao.

My dad told me this a couple days ago after I did really bad on a math test. He said “it’s okay to struggle and not do well, it is what you decide to do after that is going to mean something.” Just as much as losing can bring you down it can also teach you, so you can prepare for the future. And just in case someone needs a little boost as well I believe in you and I am proud of you! You’ve made it to today, now make it to tomorrow even if just out of spite.

the friend who introduced me to haikyuu asked me a few weeks into my watch through if I was disliking someone so far. first and only, tsuki. never really got the hate oikawa receives, but I hated tsuki so much. and I never ever hated someone on the show. not even the coaches from other teams.
my buddy was like 'just wait' and I was waiting to hate him even more...
and was greeted with a beautiful journey. tsuki is life.
edit: I really hope we can follow you through the whole show and manga and future adaptations. furudate-sensei delivers for almost EVERY single character. incredible stories, so much wisdom and the conclusion to so many plot points set up as early as S1E1. one of the best anime/mangas for sure.

Agreed, Tsukki isn't ever willingly going to be demonstrative or emotional in public, so having conversations with his brother and actively choosing to spend time with him and his team is a pretty big step. Akiteru is a lot more demonstrative about how much he cares about his little brother, but we haven't seen as much of him yet.
      [Spoiler?]
      .......
But there is a warmer interaction between the brothers, actually initiated by Tsukki, later in the manga, and the fact that he IS so undemonstrative is what makes it hit so hard.

  • @Aisha-fd1oq
    @Aisha-fd1oq Місяць тому +2

At 24:40 I love the internal monologue we get to show us Tsukki processing the information he gets from watching his opponents. We've seen him do this before a couple of episodes ago, but because this episode is so much about him learning and observing things to make himself better, it feels like I notice it more. And it's a reminder that his greatest strength is not his height, but his brain--he's detached and logical in ways that can be a huge advantage to the team.

And remember Lachy, nothing is guaranteeing that Karasuno will win every match, Hinata and Kageyama are only 1st years, if they lose it still goes on. So don't be too comfortable thinking it will just be a sweep now.
Edit2: The Legal drinking age in Japan in 20, in season 1 ukai also came up with an example of the first sip of a beer, where takeda was like "maybe you should go with a reference they can relate to"

I remember seeing that comment. Thank you for addressing this topic, Lachy. I too, am someone who struggles with depression and easily falls into pessimistic thinking when I’m at a low. I think it takes a lot of growth and courage to let yourself be influenced by positivity. It feels so silly to draw motivation from an anime or a UA-cam video, but I’ve found this show specifically to be my biggest motivation.
I think there’s a character (I won’t spoil) who really embodies the spirit of accepting that you can give a damn about something even if it feels silly or absurd. Trying to care about something, no matter how small or insignificant it is, can be so fulfilling. You don’t need some grand overarching purpose in life, just little things to care about and to keep you going.
Life is weird and to play into that negative thought process, maybe nothing matters and maybe we never amount to much in the end, but if that’s true… why wouldn’t you spend the time you have doing something you care about? Why not try to let a little light in? It’s easier said than done, but putting even an ounce of belief into yourself and trying to care about something feels like breathing deeply after holding your breath for too long.
People like you and shows like Haikyuu really help me maintain that more positive state of mind and the drive toward self-betterment.
Thank you always for what you do and bring to this community, Lachy. Keep doing your thing! 💪❤️

Love yah, Lachy. Your words are so sincere they kinda reach me. I actually have a mindset similar to that comment, but i see it from a different perspective. I "lowered my net" , worked hard to... keep failing anyway. And that made me so pessimistic. But I consider it one of my biggest achievements, you know, just to be here, to keep beeing next day, without a goal, just staying here is difficult enough when you don't have experience on reaching anything so i don't have motivation because I don't know how it feels. Well, the surprise is that when I kinda "surrendered" I started to live more relaxed, less struggling with everyday, I actually started to move on. It's not like I reached very far away, but I reached a minimum point even years ago looked impossible when I was feeling scared about failure. I have a job (not great, but enough), a partner, a handful of good friends, bought an small apartment... when years ago leaving my parent's or driving was an impossible for me. Sometimess I feel like sh*t because it's like "bare minimum" but, come on, looking back, for the past me, it's amazing. So, from my point of view, I don't see anything wrong on having no goals (or, let's say, great goals) sometimes "not looking high" it's actually the best because you can get frustrated, get blocked by a chain of failures or hopelessness and have to start somewhere and somewhere is just a little step ahead because it's visible and further is blurry. I got the best of me when I started to be a little bit less of a dreamer and a little bit more realistic. And now, reached a confortable point of security, I started to try small goals. I didn't get 90% of them, but I ran a 10K and, again, that's pretty impressive for me just finishing it since when I was a teenager I was unable to run more than 3 minutes and had 25kg of extra weight (took me more than 3 years to lose them, but, man, I did it)🎉 I'm sorry for the rambling. I just wanted to share to pessimistic people like me that there's nothing wrong with keeping it low if that's all what you can do right now, maybe you need to recharge your battery and that's fine.

Adding my own two cents to the topic of the opener. Always remember that you are allowed to dream SMALL. Make it your dream to be able to go to the gym once a week, to find one new friend or just to learn a new skill like cooking a new dish or something like that. This is so important to me cause my mind has a tendency towards all or nothing and it really stunts your growth. Your goals are your own and noone else has a right to diminish their worth to you.

Anyways, we finally started the next tournament! And this will be SO FIRE!!!!! I love Tsukki's development in these last episodes... and man... I can't wait for you to see what's to come. These next matches will be crazier and crazier, you're not prepared at all!!!
I probably won't be in the Zero Hour Squad anymore, but I'll always be supporting and waiting for each reaction!

I laugh every time I see sports anime reactions and its the, "that's a grown man!" I was also called that nonstop I was 178 cm walking into junior high and by the time I got to high school I was 195 cm. I had a full moustache in 7th that my math teacher still remembers me by. I had a beard I had to shave daily all through high school. The sad part is out of all my guys in my family I am the shortest. My oldest sister is 190 cm and my mom 176 cm, my oldest brother is the next shortest male at 2m and my dad is 208 cm.

I don't think I cried this hard on any intro, lol! The main character syndrome has such a negative connotation, but your version is awesome!!! The main characters of truly awesome stories go through hardships in their heroes' journey. I never really thought about it until I saw this video, but it's a good mentality to have that when times are tough, you're actually being prepped to be the hero. When times are hard, I always joke about asking God to take me off the strongest warriors list, lol, so I'm not someone who can say anything. But I hope that that viewer you mentioned learn to believe in themselves more. We are rooting for you, fellow viewer!
I read somewhere before that Tsukki is marinating. The longer you marinate, the more the flavor sticks. He'll be delicious when he's finally cooked. 😂😂😂
Same with Shimizu. We don't know much about her right now, but we'll learn her backstory in the future.
Also, have you seen the other OVA titled VS Failing Grade? There are some Saeko contents there in case you're interested.

Drinking age in Japan is 20 and there's a huge coming of age ceremony where the new 20 year olds have a huge graduation into adulthood. Guys wear suits or traditional hakama and the ladies wear beautiful kimonos. Inevitably after the ceremony many of them have these gigantic bottles of sake and go around day drinking with their friends. It's honestly crazy, but also the coolest thing to see.

I have been struggling with chronic anxiety, depression and adhd. That comment made me cry a lot and hit a HUGE nerve, because I used to think about that too. I take my pills daily, I climbed out after hitting rock bottom. I am fragile and easily scared, but I don't care what i won't achieve I just care about feeling at peace and holding onto people who care about me. I know I am not able to achieve my goals but you know what? I DON'T FUCKING CARE, I JUST WANT TO HAVE AN IMPACT ON OTHERS, I AM PROUD OF BEING A GENTLE AND KIND PERSON, I AM PROUD OF ALL THE PAIN I WENT THROUGH, "I WAS MADE TO BE TESTED AND TWISTED" BECAUSE MAYBE IF THIS WEIGHT WAS GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE THE COURAGE TO NOT GIVE UP. Take care of yourself, don't think about the future but stay focused on the present, try to find something you like even just playing a game or get obsessed with a tv series, watch Lachy's videos. Cuddle yourself. It's not a mandatory thing being succesful in life, you just be grateful for each second in which you're happy. I think life is made of very little moments of joy, and we just have to hang onto them while we suffer. Never think about death who cares? We are all gonna die succesful or not, just stay focused on the present. Give yourself some 'IDGAF' moments. Relax, i swear to god if i could only help you a bit i'd do it.

What I wrote is based on my life experiences, i hated when i heard things like 'you'll be great' or 'you will become this and that'. I just wanted and still want to be at peace with my mind and be at ease with my surroundings. Positivity didn't work, i had to find my strength by myself. Baby steps, hell even half a baby step. But yes it's useless to feel sorry for yourself without even trying. I fought so so so hard to find my inner peace. And i am content. That's what it matters.

In regard to the topic in the intro, I think Haikyuu has honestly made me a better person with a better mindset. I first got into it in my first year of high school, which was during the peak of COVID-19’s “reign.” COVID ruined the end of my final year in middle school and first year in high school, a really big transition point in my life. I had been a really depressed kid, but Haikyuu helped actually push forward and try.
However, I slowly lost interest as the year went on because the Haikyuu manga had ended in that time-frame, and I was trying a little less and less. When I was able to go to school in-person again the next year, I was trying again, but not as much as I had been. I was getting better and better throughout the years, and then I finally got into my senior year this past year.
I found myself getting back into Haikyuu again this past October despite having watched and read the entire thing already. But rereading it has actually made me appreciate life, and I don’t think I’ve ever been happier. Haikyuu has so many different characters that people from all kinds of backgrounds can connect with, and seeing these characters and these lessons that it shows have made a huge impact on me, and I’ve stopped thinking about the bad in my life and tried to focusing on the good.
It’s kind of stupid, but it’s made me take that one facebook mom phrase “live laugh love” seriously, because that’s what I want to do. I’m going to live, I’m going to laugh, and I’m going to love because I know it’s something the younger-me wasn’t able to do. Haikyuu has made me enjoy life FOR the younger me. And now, I’m graduated high school and going to college this year, and I just have to thank Haikyuu for being with me during these huge transition periods in my life. Despite the fact I’m not athletic nor do I play volleyball, Haikyuu’s lessons can apply to ANYONE, and I’ve learned to love the life I lead because of it.
This past month has honestly been really hard on me because I’ve experienced a major loss in the family recently, but I have to admit that Haikyuu is one of the things that lets me keep my head up.
I apologize for the lengthy comment, but it’s hard for me to see others being negative towards their life while still being into Haikyuu, because it’s really what made me become the positive person I am today

    haikyuu day yippee!!
i like your speech at the beginning! you brought up some things i didn't consider before!
however, i think there are also many factors that can hinder one's progress, such as messed up brain chemistry from mentall illnesses or neurological disorders, other disabilities, finances and environment
and although one can still get to their dreams through that, those additional obstacles can make becoming better so much harder, especially combined
like, something as common as depression is going to convince you it's not just impossible to achieve dreams, but to deal with life in general, trapping in a loop of self-destruction, imagine that with being broke and in terrible life circumstances
i'm glad i'm past depression, but after experiencing the worst of it i can't help but empathize with people going through it, especially if they're in a worse spot than me
i can only wish them to be able to reach the point when their brain would allow them to feel like it's possible to get through this, because it's really only possible when you start believing it is, yet many don't realize that just getting to this point is such a difficult task

Honestly I sort of get the "I wont amount to anything" mindset - some of us are a bit of overthinkers and we consider things a long time into the future and you get to the point of "I live and everything I do during that time eventually passes and I die and since my life is meaningless everything I do is too". Went through some rough patches with depression and stuff. Funnily enough its what eventually got me to Game Development - the first time I saw my name in the credits I cried cuz I knew that if I were to die tomorrow I am already immortalized and it has, and would make a difference. I guess it also has something to do with the fact that I am negative reinforcement sort of guy, I strive way more in the face of adversity. Every time I went through a situation where someone said "You cant do this" or "you are not good enough" it motivates me to go that much harder if only to spite them and prove them wrong. Not very healthy way to live tho.
Regarding Mad Dog - his name is Kentaro Kyotani - which Oikawa combines into Kyoken - meaning mad dog (Its kinda like Ushijima is called Ushiwaka combining his names). The symbols in his name dont fit this nick but I will get to their meaning later on.
Wakunan (the pink school) is one of the top 4 we mentioned earlier on. They are one of the four best teams alongside Date Tech, Sejioh and Shiratorizawa. Hence why there was so much focus on them in that setup.
I love how Ushiwaka is so respectful by saying Hinata's full name but then he looks over at the Sejoh pair and goes full disrespect with their names as if he is saying "and the two Seijoh clowns" :D
    DAMN I AM SO HYPED

The chorus lyrics for the song go as:-
When you gave all your love
    But it wasn't enough
When you swear this time you're giving up
    You still gotta try
    You know you gotta try
When you gave all you got like a million times
We put the hell in hello
    And the good in goodbye

I have so much to say about the intro and it will be a jumble incoherent mess but fk it. Lettin it rip like an Asahi jump serve, probably look stupid but let's find out.
I very much struggle with feelings of pessimism, ennui and depression that the commenters post reflect. Commenter- I can promise you already make differences in ways you'll likely never know or expect. I know even when you do realize you've made an impact, it's often disheartening that it's not in a substantial or permanent way. I have had many dark days and tragic events in my life, so I know how one can get into this mindset and how hard it is to try to gaf. Recently, after many years of living without hope for my/anythings future and a period of just passing the time with short term pleasures like hook ups and hard drugs, I'm proud (and a bit embarrassed) to say I am trying to explore new things looking for meaning or passion, like that "moment you'll get hooked on volleyball" to quote Bokuto. There's a pretty high chance I will never find something close to a calling or a passion- but why not try? Why not live life? I sure as sht won't know if I don't try. There will never be ONE moment that turns it around. There almost certainly will never be ONE person that rights your ship. It's a long, and many days losing or non-existent battle. But fight. You deserve and owe it to yourself to try and to care. In my experience and what I've learned from others who struggle similarly, pessimism is often a defense against potential new pain. I hope you can find it in you to try, and try without the expectation of results. I know I would've rolled my eyes if someone said this to me in my dark times. I am reminded of 2 things from this channel recently (there will be many to come that I won't spoil) but 1-Yamaguchi laying into Tsukki for having an uncaring attitude and saying what else is there than pride (which i also take to mean effort or caring) and 2nd- when Lachy recently talked about how he never expected to really be the biggest channel but just hopes to reach even one person. hes worked his goofy a$$ off to try to achieve that. Sure it's corny, but it's meaningful to someone. even if its just himself, that matters to him and will ripple out to the people his path crosses.
@lachyywhite speaking of often never knowing your impact Idk if i've ever given my proper due, so I will now- Lachy: seeing your videos pop up make my day, and I often check YT solely to see if you've posted. You've helped me in the journey I am on to become someone who tries to try more, tries to care about the process more, and tries to dream again.Thank you for discussing this, thank you for being brave enough to start this channel and put yourself out there, and also thank you for giving the commenter privacy. I got love for both you, and the commenter.

the intros and positive talk is nice, which almost annoys me.. like i might be a bit of a contrarian, as in the fact that your words might motivate me sometimes pisses me off a bit and i wanna do something opposite out of spite. like a cat shoving something off the table while looking you dead in the eyes. but the only person who knows i'm doing it is me lol.. but it still ends up mostly motivates me to go to the gym and get some shit done. which then annoys me again lol. i suddenly understand tsukki being annoyed at hinata in this episode.
