Maaaan, I've been watching your videos from years now (I'm not a regular, i'm not even subscriber, but that ends now haha) 've seen a los of your MPC and SP videos and this one REALLY was mindblowing.... i was always thinking that 'fucking sp i can't do variations by muting tracks or pads like an mpc' and have tried to address that googling and nothing. but FINALLY... in a video that i didn't even expected to solve this problem for me. yo should really add sp 303 pad muting to the title because it is what it DELIVERS. awesome content man. keep it up, you've been years in this game and you have a long way to go. Just amazing.
Great Great Tip. On the 404 there's an input midi that you can use to synch it to the daw so everytime you record the pattern it will be aligned in the DAW and it will keep the tmming .
Another GREAT tutorial. J. Filt!!! I was excited to see you explain how this process works. I think in today's computer recording technology, "audio" tracking out is underrated even though it's still a very simple and necessary process. Thanks for reminding everyone of how cool it can be. I do it from time to time but not as often as I should. I think it keeps a lot of 'grit' and 'warmth' and it works with many other samplers and drum machines. :-) Peace
Thanks, J. I can't believe it was that simple. I'm not sure what I have heard people say that tracking out from an Akai 2000XL to a DAW was difficult. You made it seems so easy using an SP 303.
great tut as usual, Filth, just want to mention this don't work on stereo samples because of how the canceler fx is made. keep it up man , lotta peace and respect from italy
You can do the same with mfx 20 (voice trans), turn knobs to far left and it acts as a mute. Control 3 knob is dry signal, good for fade ins and outs too. You're awesome jfilt, thanks for all the videos!
@@adriannunez8868 smartmedia cards man. maximum is 128mb which is still a struggle. get a 404 and you'll never have to worry about memory, or anything else for that matter, Koala, PO33, etc. also damn this is a blast from the past, i got my mpc 2000xl now btw :D
Christopher White I’m not trying to do an hr live set with it... just for real quick songs that I can record.. idk I’m new to producing (@ home). I have a MPC 1000 and it isn’t it in good shape (doesn’t read memory cards), but I’m wanting to add the 303 to help my Korg KP3 and use the MPC solely for drums and the 303 for sample jumping. I’m looking into the 303 for the compressor mostly.. the sound does make it special... Other than that I have a TB-3 and TR-8 on the way and I really want to record all my instruments at once while I’m playing... so I’m still figuring that out. Other than that how is the 2XL?? Honestly... I think the drums sound way better on it and for some reason and I was really looking into replacing my 1000 with the XL. The 1000 though I feel has some really good bass ngl lol
Another great tutorial man. Any chance on a tutorial on loading samples on to the SP303 from a PC/MAC? I can use the SP as a external effects processor, but I can't seem to transfer audio files from PC to SP.. Cheers
i have a question about loading samples to the memory card.do you just drag and drop from your desktop to the card? also how do you assign the kick to pad? i just ordered my 303.ive been scanning thru the manual too.@verysickbeats
so is this a technique that producers do to put vocal stabs that gate the whole beat ( similar to knxwledge, stlndrums, foisey etc... ) trying to understand simple techniques to put in more vocal fx on my sp's
i don't do it in this vid but, my fav way to use vocal stabs with sp303 is by pressing EXT SOURCE and the vocal stab at the same time. If another audio source is going into the input of the SP 303, this technique will gate any audio coming thru which i learned from stlndrms
OH MY GOD YES I CAN GET STEMS FROM MY SAMPLER NOW!!! Fuck I've just been drumming the whole beat on my 404. While the sound still works nice, it doesn't allow me to individually mix and master tracks in my DAW. I just gotta master the whole WAV. Thanks so much for this!!!!
In his final moments too. I have to give mad mad props to Dilla (even though I do already) for making a LP with just a 303. I got a 303 to have a buddy with my 404sx. It's defiantly more antiquated. But the sound is great.
Thank you 🙏 5 years later still helping many people like myself 👊👊👊

Does the 303 have this function ?

maybe because it was so small it was convenient

You're welcome!
Dope technique Filt! I love your videos!
Appreciate it!
Your videos are very helpful for me I just got a SP 303 last week and your videos were very helpful for me to learn how to operate the machine
Great to hear!
the pro tools function "tab to transient" works wonders for lining up tracks and getting the tempo
thanks for sharing

the loops sound nice keep playing that loops

Dope. Thanks again homeboy!

When tracking out your Sp-303 on your audio interface do you use “Line Level” or “Instrument Level”?
line level
Verysickbeats That’s what I thought but for some reason the volume is much lower then if I use instrument level
Thnx. Good workaround
my pleasure
you the man, i only got a 303 and saving for a mpc, living the struggle life making the 303 work

Do you know what memory card brands it can use? Don’t wanna buy one without a memory card first so I can know it works...

Can u sample from a phone using the line in on the 303?
yes indeed u just need the right cable
does this function work with ththe sp 404 as well?
there is the same mfx but on 22 number...so could does it...
it should i just havn't tried it yet but i know u can do something similar with the Subsonic MFX
Yeah it work put your sample has to be in mono.. otherwise it does not totally cancel the sound out. Great Tip btw
Can the SP-303 midi input be used to auto start when the DAW begins recording?
that's a great question, i'd say no but could be wrong
Hey Jay, You ever check out the samplers from elektron? Like the octatrack?
as i write this, not yet

i dont have the right media adapter to do that unfortunately
God bless you
same to u
Similar to "Track Mute" on the MP
yessir
What memory card brands work with the 303?
thats a google question unless someone who knows for sure can answer by all means please share
Verysickbeats 3.3v smart media cars only 8-64mb chips only. Still no brands...
Great vid, but was just wondering, how do u connect the SP and ur computer? Midi to USB?
thanks, i use neither. i go straight audio out into my interface
@@Verysickbeats aah i see. Sorry got another quick question, how do you save your beats from the SP 303?
i believe you can do the same with the compressor MFX, just turn the level all the way down
thanks for sharing
I just bought a 303 after already having the 404SX and the 555 ... wth is up with the mark function on the 303?
my 303 mark function does the same thing as it does on the sx
The c canceler is not good enough for de 404 so I do this trick with the isolator with the knobs all the way to the left, hope it helps someone
thanks for sharing
how can i connect this divice in my laptop?
plug into your audio interface
How is this dude NOT a household name?
LOL, feel free to share
He is
