Just a heads up, that wheel doesn't adjust the brightness. It adjusts the focus so that it can be read at different distances. That's why it's easier to see when you rotate it to the correct spot.
Bought this today on a whim. Did not have time to research different models as the wife just had to rush up to walmart. I had her buy this as the websight listed it as a clearance item. But the store we went to did not sell it to us as a clearance so I had to pay the usual $98.80. So needless to say this will be the 100th time I will be boycotting the Walmart. I could not figure out how to turn it on at first as there was no readout on screen. Turns out I put the battery in backwards. Instructions don't list that step. Seems to work okay. I bought it so I can sight my crossbow in at 20 yards. What is cool is it says its got a 350 yard effective scan range.I don't plan on going deer hunting this year but may opt to buy a better RF in the future. This thing don't light up in different colors and will be much too hard to see in dark conditions.
368engbn thanks for the comment. Whenever I’m hunting it’s primarily Bowhunting. While I’m in the stand I usually range out specific trees or bushes so I know how far they are in case I get a shot and I’ll use those as reference points. That seems to help me once it starts to get dark. You bring up a good point, it would be nice to get a range in darker light.
Thanks for the very informative video. So far, Its between this one and Bushnell Prime 1300 Rangefinder. I dont like the battery they use in the 1300. I have Cabela points to bring price way down on the 1300.
Thanks I got one in my cart on amazon about to buy. I just bought my first Barnett D.R.T 385 with a halo scope and so far she a bad b*tch lol. I need a range finder to help and came across this video and I was sold after 5 min of the video lol..
Even that video is a year old someone please explain to me the "AI" - Math Mode what distance is it telling you i mean the Line of Sight Distance is always how far iam off and the angle is just important for me if iam Shooting to adjust my Range but that also depends on the fall of Bow and arrow is different then a with an AR16
It's the slope reading. It takes away the guesswork of estimating distance on gradients. If you're on an uphill par 3, it will give you a yardage and you just pick the right club for the yardage.
Aj C it’s awesome, I use it whenever I’m shooting my bow in the yard and I just used it on my South Carolina trip. Holding up strong, going on two seasons of using it. For $100 you can’t beat it!
I have this range finder and so if I am 20 feet high in a tree and a deer is at 20 yards with a -24 and angle, does that mena the yardage it says is right
Thomas Lenhart I’ve tried it from the tree and measured it with a tape measure and it was spot on. I would have to say so from my experience. Hope that helps.
Mark of all trades it is my first one ever and I have put this thing three hell and I have beat her up good and after close to roughly one year of use and 1000s of clicks the battery tied when I had a doe in range witch sucked that I didn’t have another so I spent 22$ on two of those lil lithium battery’s, I love the range finder and well I love it
I purchased mine from Walmart for more than $100 with tax which failed rather quickly and Walmart told me to have the manufacturer replace it under it's one year warranty. I paid $25 to ship it to Halo company who verified it was not functioning and it was within warranty. They told me it was a discontinued model and they didn't have anything to replace it with even if I asked for a trade up or down and I could pay the difference which they refused. They wouldn't even agree send me a used or blemished or damaged one that actually worked which I would have been ok with. They totally screwed me over and ripped me off as a customer. They even offered to throw it away for me so they wouldn't have to pay to ship it back to me.
Halo make decent products, I have their Z6X2 rangefinder which I've had so long they discontinued making it and it still works perfectly, only thing I didn't like when I bought it was the cr2 battery it takes, kinda pricey for a battery and if you're out hunting and it goes dead on you it's not exactly readily available. Good video btw 👍
That’s the biggest thing, is getting what you paid for. Sounds like you certainly got your money’s worth out of it. How long does your battery usually last you?
@@Markofalltrades battery life depends on usage but has been quite impressive (over a year) but due to long periods of none use i got myself in the habit of double checking how much charge was left before heading out, it was the initial sticker shock of the battery that got me they're $30 up here in Canada, still an excellent rangefinder though.
It does, thanks a lot! Also, I commented on the hawk helium climbing sticks video and asked what aider do you use and how does it work. Am looking into saddle hunting and would like to have my ducks in a row lol
@@adambates4913 No problem at all. For me I made my own personal aider out of webbing material. All I did was tie a water not and it hasn't come apart at all. I only use my aider on my bottom climbing stick. I know some guys bring up the aider with them and put it on the next stick, I just don't feel comfortable climbing back down that way in the dark lol. This is my first year hunting with a saddle and its been such a game changer for me. I love being able to pick out a tree and be ready to go in less than ten minutes.
Ok I've had 2 of these rangefinders in the last 3 years and both just quit ranging anything,I can push the button on them both and nothing comes up.plus the warranty has run out on them so all they are now are just 6 power monocular's,I tryed brand new cr 2 battery's and nothing works.the laser in both just stopped or quit working on them both.so save your money and go pay a little more for something that will work for you now, like I'm doing next season I'm looking at some vortexes and nikon rangefinders for my bow and Muzzleloader hunting.its a lot better than getting out in the field and wow I can't range my distance to my target right.so send your money right and get a good rangefinder that will work and last for you!!!!!
Pete Bentley I’ve heard that some of these don’t have the life expectancy that most nikons do. When I was looking for one I was in a pinch and none of the outdoor stores had any except for this one. So far (6 months) it’s been great. I guess time will only tell how long this will last.
Same thing with me mark, the first one only lasted a little over a year when I was out bow bow hunting with my crossbow and was using it to range some trees close to me.and it quit rangeing so I always carry extra new batteries for it so I changed it out and it still dident work.and by then the warranty had run out on it,so I went back to Walmart and bought me another one and not long after it done the samething.and I did take great care of both of them to now.i just wish you luck with yours,I did take my battery out ever time I got home from hunting to help conserve my battery life but it didn't do me one bit of good at all so like I said mark good luck with yours now 🤷♂️🤔👌‼
Same thing happened to me. I just went to the range this past weekend and it does not work. Only my 3rd time using it. Was a little pokey on the readings but it worked.. I also just bought new batteries. And No luck. So I figured I got a Lemon! :( . I am now going to spend more money on a good one and cry once. using AI distance for measuring with incline or decline, does it tell the horizontal distance or actual distance?

You beat me to it
Great review my man. I’ve been on the fence about the XL450 and this really helped out. Thanks for doing what you do.
Really glad it helped!
I live in Michigan! I love and respect everything you do for us sir thank you. Also great video! Your a hell of a salesman! Just ordered 👍
Mike MêgåDēãth thanks man much appreciated! It’s been a good rangefinder for me so far.
The ring on the eyepieces for focus.
Best $100 range finder! It’s definitely nice and can take a beating
Absolutely I definitely think so too!

Lude glad you liked the video. I appreciate it. The 1300 is a nice choice too. Can’t go wrong either way.
The readings I get from mine, @0°∠, is up to a yard & a half longer than the actual distance, (I only have a 200' tape measure [66⅔ yards]).
You should have measurewith tape measure and show accurate it is coz im using an air rifle and it needs to be on the dot
Clear, concise review where you covered everything -great job!
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed it!

That’s actually a focus ring, not a “brightness” adjustment.

Thanks man, glad this video could help you out!
Works great thanks for the help!
Awesome, glad it worked out!
Wish you had a link for credit cuz you just sold it for him, and I'd never heard of it. Thank you very much.
I very much appreciate that. I’m just trying to inform everyone on how great this has been for me. Hopefully you like it as much as I do.
Great review
Thank you, I appreciate that!
i got a used one for under $40 on ebay - I don't hunt or golf -but I'm thinking it might help with flying my drone - - thanks for the info
Wow, that's a great find!
Just received one for a Christmas present. Thank you for the excellent review!
Really glad it helped. I think it's an awesome rangefinder. Hopefully you enjoy it!
Them new mexico plates right there 505
How it work in night time? Still show distance in low light environment?
From my hunts I’ve had with it, if there is even a glimpse of light I can see it come up
Bought one today, but wish it came with case
bowhunter that’s awesome, I really think it’s a solid rangefinder. Adding a case would be a nice plus!
Will this work for golfing?
Great thanks
Chip Bickel glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Detroit! My best friend is an ex Tiger. Good video..
Glad to hear from another Michigander! Much appreciated, thank you.
Mark of all trades I’m from Texas but love Detroit
If I want to shoot something up in the tree, does it give me an incline angle?
It automatically calculates it but will not show the angle.

Mine broke down after having it for 2 months. Junk!
I have the halo XL 800, you want be disappointed, I can’t tell the difference between the halo , Nikon, and Leupold rangefinder.
Does it take into a count of the arc for bow hunting?
It will give you an accurate yardage straight to the target. From there you’ll have to use the appropriate pin sight.
Is there a limit on the distance it can range?
The max range on it is 450 yards. Hope that helps.
Well how do u like it so far

I did, yes

Take my advice and just buy a Vortex at least they won't bullshit you when it comes to warranty and Vortex is a lifetime warranty.

This this sucks. The numbers are super hard to read no matter how you adjust the focus. I'm pissed I wasted my money
Cool video. Would you use the AI yardage to determine your shot?
