I take my 1982 Schwinn SuperSport down the Illinois Prairie path to see if my classic bike gets to trashed. What do you think this path is made of? I would like to take more of my bicycle collection down this path if possible. I just dont want to mess up the restoration or get it too dirty.

Hahaha i’m right in wheaton! I ride my vintage 1969 Raleigh Super Course TT, that I restored myself, on the parrie path all the time. It gets it pretty dusty! Love your videos, keep them up!
cool. Look for me. I usually ride between Ferry road and Roosevelt. Unless I go further and go torwards Elmhurst. I'm on my Moots a lot of the time.
:) this one caught my attention. I am in on the next ride!
Excellent. I like your videos. People, check them out
Thanks for the video, always appreciated. Nice trail. From my collection, I think the Dawes Windrush would be best suited to it. Early 1960s frame with later components and painted in glorious battleship grey ... deserves better but then I'd worry about it.
Thanks. Dawes is a cool bike
This is all about five minutes from my house. I ride the PP all the time, what a great resource to have! In the summer my roadie friends and I bomb down Ferry early in the AM before the sun rises. Great collection!
You pass my garage all the time
Actually, maybe you could help me. I can use a good route that is not on the bike path for my road bike. At the same time. I don't want to get it by a car. Any suggestions?
Glad to know I'm not the only one who calls those "Ferris Bueller clouds"!
Now that's funny right there.
I grew up in Winfield and rode that trail many times, always enjoyed it,
Cool. My daughter and Son inlaw live there now near the hospital! I also lived there when I was born.
Hi John. I live in the Fox Valley area and I go through that section quite often! It's so cool to see a place you recognize on youtube. Nice Schwinn.
Thanks. I plan on doing a vintage ride out of here in the summer. If you would like to go let me know. Thanks
That vintage Schwinn still a solid bike! Good work John!
Thanks. that bike is minty. great shape.
My Trek 560 regularly finds itself on unpaved roads, recently including a river crossing owing to bad navigation, and apart from dirt on the frame the worst part would be my rear brake getting sticky and not returning fully....and yes 25 mm is plenty of tyre for the job
Great. This one didnt take much cleanup. However when its dryer I think its worse cuz of the dust.
I do it all the time on the gravel trail with my 1984 Raleigh RS500 555SL It has new 27x 1 1/4” tires, it’s not as nice as riding the streets but u get used to it after awhile
Sure beats being hit by a car! lol. Thanks for watching
Wow, that's a wonderful trail.
So much better than fighting with the cars.
I agree. 85 percent of my riding now is on trails. dont want to risk my life because people texting and driving!
Great ride, certainly not spoilt for choice for your next adventure 👍
I put my Bianchi on the trail and I fully enjoyed it. It was great.

Excellent content sir
Thanks
The bike didn’t get too bad John. I just finished refurbishing my 1980 Team Miyata and got into rideable shape. Video should be out next week.
That bike is awesome. I want one in my size!!
Beautiful trail 👍👍. It’s like antique cars yes it damages a little but the joy is worth it. Sadly I wear my mountain bike shoes and cleats on my road bike 😂😂.
I have Looks on almost all the bikes I intend on riding. My Moots gravel bike has the crank brothers pedals and some hard sole touring type shoes I use almost everyday. Thanks for watching.
I put 1-3/8 knobbies on my Schwinn. Great gravel bike!
Ive seen a few do that. Works well!
John, you are proof that you never forget how to ride a bicycle..😮
Im that old huh?

Thank you, Thanks for watching.
John I am north of you in WI and the 1st rail trail in the country (Elroy-Sparta) is here. When they were trying to figure out how to surface the trail for as little money as possible they stumbled on the idea of screenings from the processing of regular gravel. Since then there have been over 1700mi of rail trail built in WI using the same type of screening material they tried in the mid-60s for the Elroy-Sparta.
I ride my 1985 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe on the trails here frequently with no concerns. With that said I should disclose that I also run aluminum fenders on the bike which probably helps keep crud away from the rest of the bike.
Awesome. Ive been on Elroy-Sparta. Its been a long time. I need to ride it again. Thanks for watching.
I hit trails on my super course mk II....the paint is already shredded, so its gravy. You have such nice bikes though!
I have a gravel bike and I am also going to build a "Rider" quality vintage road bike to ride on it more regularly.
Look into Eroica, tough vintage biking at its rawest, well at least Eroica Hispania in Spain!! 500 classic bikes off roading!
I've heard of that. Sounds fun
Show!!! Isso é muito legal cara!
Thanks for watching!!
Great video to watch when I am trapped inside at work. The 23mm or 25mm Gatorskin tires work well on the hard pack trails. Time to invest in some mountain bike pedals and shoes if you plan on riding a lot on the trails. Fenders will help to protect the bike's paint from the grit and rocks.
Hey. I try to make this "comfort TV" Glad you enjoyed it. I have the Gatorskins! My daily on this trail is actually my Moots Route 45 gravel. You can see a video on it on the channel. Thanks so much for watching.
to save the tires you can add the mr tuffy inserts or the tanus armore withch is available for many sizes
I remember those. Im running Conti Gatorskins. Those are pretty tough.
That sort of trail surface is fairly common, I think. It might be largely clay... I know the local trail gets pretty soft when wet. The Fuji looks good! Love the Sugino crank and the SunTour derailleurs!
It is somewhat. I did it for the benefit of those coming to a bike ride im having in the summer. Look closer! Its a Schwinn SuperSport. 1982
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage Fuji? I must have hallucinated that part?? The Schwinn looks good too. 🙂 Unrelated.. the various camera angles are a nice bit of novelty. Just don't get the camera caught in the spokes!
Hey John, Thank you for your content. Because of you and other bike UA-camrs I have been getting out and putting together a roadbike again. It should be good to go in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll send you some pictures. Oh, and let me know if you have any Shimano 9 speed downtube shifters. lol
That's awesome. GEt back on it! Funny. I didn't think they made 9 speed downtubes. I believe by the time 9 speed came out they were all brifters? NO?
@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage They actually made 9 speed indexing downtube shifters... For a very short time. lol They seam to be quite hard to find.
I see you're using your fav. tires. Gatorskins? Kidding.
LOL. Im not a huge fan other than on a touring bike where I need the durability.
Hey! I ride a 1983 schwinn super sport as a commuter!
On mine the paint is crap, the drive train is pretty filthy, and it's too small for me, but it rides like a dream
GREAT bike for that! isn't it!?
Used to ride 1980s carlton competition off road then race it the next day on the road.Who needs a mountain bike ? 🤔
I have one and I never use it. HOwever my daily is a Moots Routt 45 Gravel.
Yes, let's do the Ryan Van Duzer thing except we go from the US to Honduras..... NOT
Let's just say we did....
I dont know if I could handle that trek that he took!
Surface is macadam
Enjoyable video but please ditch the awful background music. It was so loud your conversation was hard to hear. It was so pleasing when it stopped. Without the lift music it even made your singing sound good ! Ole Ole.
LOL> the singing was lousy lol
