I did the same courses at Cambridge in my second year, this brought back so many memories for me! I was at Trinity College, but visited the boat house she mentions - though not at that sort of time of day. I'm now doing a postdoc in astrophysics after a PhD in it from Saint Andrews. I've always been very committed to physics, but honestly don't think I was as committed as Paige - I left the tutorial problems until nearer the deadline. I don't think I ever did them straight after the lecture, though that might be because it took time for the concepts to sink in. Personally, I valued understanding everything in the notes more than answering the questions (though both are important and actually go together). The bit about the maths lecture theatre being crowded is just how I remember it - I think it wasn't really small, but more people took the course as it's important not just to physicists. Anyway, I have some happy memories of my 2nd year at Cambridge, when I was actually representing the students taking the physics A course - I remember getting about 80 votes vs 70 for the other candidate. Along with the rep for physics B, we collected feedback from students, not just on forms but by talking to them and most importantly just by listening (as students often talk about the course whether I ask them or not). I like to think I did my best, and honestly think that year was one of the best in my whole degree. Though not as good as my third year, when I finally got to do astrophysics full time. But not many people took it, so it was a bit isolating - I had lots more people to talk to in my 2nd year.
