Nikola Predovan how exactly. You go through a level fighting tougher and tougher enemies and end it fighting the boss, which has weak points in it. It's a difficult darker Zelda with RPG elements without the puzzles essentially
DonkeyFilms Take the combat for instance. In Ocarina you gotta wait for the opponent to expose their weakness, while in Dark souls you usually have more options. You can kick their shield, you can throw fire bombs, etc. to make it a bit easier on yourself. The story is also a lot more organic. You have one mission from the beginning:kill or replace gwyn. And as you go that decision keeps getting more and more context. The greatest thing is you don't have to care or pay attention to that, but you can. While in Ocarina the story is told in a much more cinematic and exposition-heavy way. Not to mention Dark Souls has nothing like Navi, and it has summon-based multiplayer.
Nikola Predovan there are multiple ways of dealing with enemies in Zelda, sword, arrow, magic. It depends on which game you're referring to. Also, in the newest Zelda title there is no one telling you where to go or what to do like Navi, also now enemies have HP bars with much more ways to take care of them if you please. Such as attack in front, stealth kill from behind, or knocking boulders over to kill them. I was just stating the combat is kind of similar except more difficult in Dark Souls. Hit, hop back, and wait for the right time to strike. No all enemies have a significant weakness or taken out in a certain way in Zelda. And now there are even bigger badder foes in Breath of the Wild that could kill you in one hit.
Nikola Predovan it's mainly just the bosses that have the certain weak spot example like the obvious eye. But even dark souls has that, such as the Rotten Cursedwood boss. And don't even get me started on how similar Crystal Sage resembled the classic wizziros in the NES and SNES games or even Agahnim who used the whole clone technique. Though you can't knock the magic back though.

The first two Harry Potter tie-in games were pretty good 3D Zelda clones. They had similar dungeons and you learned new spells in a way similar to songs in Ocarina of Time. Too bad they kept ruining the later games until it became Gears of War with magic.
In terms of gameplay and the adventure, backtracking with new armor and discovering secrets, metroid prime is for me just like a legend of zelda game as an ego shooter with a science fiction setting. love this game so much
You guys should probably change the title from copied to heavily inspired, because most of these only borrowed certain elements and are unique enough on their own.
+4yoyoman HELL YEAH. Played both. Really hope Darksiders 3 and Darksiders 4 are going to come to fruition. I want to be able to switch between all 4 mid-combat for combos or finishers on bosses.
When I first read the title I thought it was clones from The Legend of Zelda and I was expecting Dark Link to be #1 and Phantom Ganon #2, Demise #3 etc.
LOL Darksiders a clone of Zelda? Please.. Now every game that uses a system of powerups/weapons to unlock certain things or to move forward in the story of the game its because of Zelda? Wtf, Darksiders use a gameplay system like God of War, DmC or any 3rd person beat'em ups with big bosses battles, not because Zelda uses that system in new games means that they made that, remember that the game started as a platfo and the as a roguelike, there was a lot of 3rd beat'em ups that came first than Zelda with that new system of progresion. Lol...
actually darksiders is very zelda like, youre given a task, dungeons to raid, power ups to find, and you use said tool you find in the dungeon against the boss of said dungeon, not to mention a pretty large interconnected world and a fuckin horse to ride, id say darksiders is just as much zelda, as shovel knight is to megaman
Well this was disappointing. I feel like they should have made this a list of games influenced by zelda instead. When I think of clone, I think of prototype vs. sunset overdrive or god of war vs. dante's inferno
SOTN, Darksiders and Okami as the top 3? That's insane. SOTN was clearly influenced by Metroid which included backtracking after getting powerups, hence the Metroidvania subgenre being created. Darksiders is just an action adventure game with aspects taken from multiple inspirations. And Okami? Looks, plays and feels NOTHING like any Zelda game. I love Zelda as much as any other gamer but those top 3 are absolutely not even in the same spectrum in terms of story, style or gameplay. Not one of your most thought out lists WatchMojo.
Tomba 2 that games reminds me of Majoras Mask everytime I play it because of how much it has in common... In Tomba 2 you get transformation costumes which helps you traverse through their specifically designed environments. There are also 4 main sections you have to travel to in order to complete the game each section has a handful of puzzles you need to complete. Apart from the dungeons there are countless side stories you can do. You also gain a handful of weapons on top of that which help you get through certain parts of the game.. I don't know how much closer this game can be without it being considered copyrighted..
Even though I still found this vid entertaining, I don't think you can really make a Zelda clone, unless it's really a CLONE, because to me at least, the Zelda franchise has made its own genre. Anyone agree?
speechless. so many things but ill only say one, Golden Axe Warrior is one of the biggest Zelda clones ever made and it only makes the honorable mentions list. ok
SOTN? Really? Look, all games are essentially influenced by other games before it. Now some of those games like binding of issac emulated some aspects of Zelda games and are considered homages to Zelda. While others simply recreated games like wind waker with new sprites, characters, maps and music and called it something else. All of which are fine within the context of this list but SOTN? I mean, its an entirely different game that plays very differently than zelda. Its so different it literally created its own genre. Nothing about SOTN makes me feel like I'm playing a zelda game and I've never heard anyone ever make that comparison. But hey, that's just my opinion.
I don't think anybody would immediately know this, but I'm really surprised Ittle Dew wasn't on this list. It's a pretty fun little parody of the original Zelda, and it shows it's inspiration and love of the series on it's sleeve. It's probably the most overtly Zelda inspired game you could ever play, more so than Okami or SOtN at least.
I think Tetris is a Zelda clone. Both are all about solving puzzles and progressing forward.
rapu LMAO xD!
Tetris came before Zelda, so it doesn't count
Curlyfries 925 So Zelda is a Tetris game? :)

which are also clones of dragon slayer
TLoZelda was released 1986 in Japan, 87 in USA.
has anyone else noticed the similarities between the legend of zelda and the 1985 movie Legend.
It always goes back to Ultima or Pong.
+Jeremy Smith I remember reading once that the movie served as an inspiration to Zelda's creator
"Copied" is a very offensive term as some of the games are great in its own way. Video should've been titled "Zelda Influenced games"
+EonHSD still ofensive

I've always said that Okami is the greatest Zelda game myself.
+Myron Zhang it is
*****
:D
just because something takes inspiration, doesn't make it a clone. A clone is something completely identical
Okay so weird question: does anyone want a Darksiders 3? I mean tbh idk if it was just me fangirling or what, but the story was pretty decent.
+4yoyoman HELL YEAH. Played both. Really hope Darksiders 3 and Darksiders 4 are going to come to fruition. I want to be able to switch between all 4 mid-combat for combos or finishers on bosses.
IM NOT ALONE!!!
Yes
+4yoyoman I also would love to see more darksiders games, i played both games and loved it.
i hope its under development! 2 more characters! i personally like death more cause of his bad ass parkour skills.
Beyond Oasis is a very underrated very good game very addicting thanks for adding such a great game
When I first read the title I thought it was clones from The Legend of Zelda and I was expecting Dark Link to be #1 and Phantom Ganon #2, Demise #3 etc.
All of the sudden I get a "Top 10 WoW Clones" feeling coming, which will simply be 10 MMO's made after 2004.
this episode is definitely a stretch.... like watching this made me mad lol.
same
There's a big difference between clones and taking inspiration from a game
No Beyond Good and Evil? Not even a mention?
"Terranigma" should be on this list. Not only does it follow the Zelda formula, but it's also the best SNES game ever!
There is absolutely no possible way to clone what Zelda has done, meaning it's adventure, music, and the impact on the gaming world itself.
Well this was disappointing. I feel like they should have made this a list of games influenced by zelda instead. When I think of clone, I think of prototype vs. sunset overdrive or god of war vs. dante's inferno
We get it watchmojo you are die hard Zelda fans
SOTN, Darksiders and Okami as the top 3? That's insane. SOTN was clearly influenced by Metroid which included backtracking after getting powerups, hence the Metroidvania subgenre being created. Darksiders is just an action adventure game with aspects taken from multiple inspirations. And Okami? Looks, plays and feels NOTHING like any Zelda game. I love Zelda as much as any other gamer but those top 3 are absolutely not even in the same spectrum in terms of story, style or gameplay. Not one of your most thought out lists WatchMojo.
Imitation is considered to be the sincerest form of flattery, but sometimes it's nothing but a slap in the face.
Missed game: Beyond Good And Evil
+rmsgrey Kinda strange they didn't include it :/
I'd say the mechanic of collecting and backtracking used in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is more reminiscent of Metroid than Zelda.
Legend of Zelda sucks
Thank you
+Shinseiryugen
In your opinion.
+Gumph Clearly.
ooh so much edge. ahh Dying Fetus. I remember 7th grade.
Yeah
I really love Star Fox adventures, I think it's my favorite Star fox game though I can agree that it is really odd when next to it's peers.
The binding of isaac? really?
Guy it was ment to be
You sure aren't about 2 years late.
Alundra is definitely the most Zelda like - and it's amazing, by the way.
zelda is the best game ever baby
I'm surprised none of the Dark Cloud games were mentioned. Those were actually phenomenal games.
Wtf SoTN is doing on that list!?
Tomba 2 that games reminds me of Majoras Mask everytime I play it because of how much it has in common... In Tomba 2 you get transformation costumes which helps you traverse through their specifically designed environments. There are also 4 main sections you have to travel to in order to complete the game each section has a handful of puzzles you need to complete. Apart from the dungeons there are countless side stories you can do. You also gain a handful of weapons on top of that which help you get through certain parts of the game.. I don't know how much closer this game can be without it being considered copyrighted..
Gran Turismo is a blatant ripoff of the Zelda series.
StarFox Adventures was awesome and one of the best Cube Titles!
I really feel like Alundra should of been on this list. That game was incredible and very Zelda-esque.
Even though I still found this vid entertaining, I don't think you can really make a Zelda clone, unless it's really a CLONE, because to me at least, the Zelda franchise has made its own genre.
Anyone agree?
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, Terranigma, Blood Omen and Blood Omen 2... can't think of any other game out the top of my head.
Soul Reaver is more a clone of Tomb Raider
speechless. so many things but ill only say one, Golden Axe Warrior is one of the biggest Zelda clones ever made and it only makes the honorable mentions list. ok
DAAAAAARKSIDERS !!!!!! MY DEAR LOVE
SOTN?
Darksiders was/is fantastic, kinda hope 3 and 4 are finished cause I've played both 1 and 2 thoroughly.
i thought Illusion of Gaia might be on this list for the flute playing, the dungeon crawling, and the real-time sword and magic stuff
"This game has puzzles so it's a Zelda clone."
The game where you play as a dog with a magic paintbrush is like zelda....WTF R U SMOKING
Used to play Beyond Oasis (it was known as Story of Thor over here) to death. Still looks awesome today
Although there are clones, some are far from being "Clones". Inspiration and Clone are completely different things - just for the record.
Alundra is The Best
How the hell is Alundra only an honorable mention?
Thank you for including Startropics!
I don't think anybody would immediately know this, but I'm really surprised Ittle Dew wasn't on this list. It's a pretty fun little parody of the original Zelda, and it shows it's inspiration and love of the series on it's sleeve. It's probably the most overtly Zelda inspired game you could ever play, more so than Okami or SOtN at least.
wow...i honestly didnt expect okami to be on this list...but now that i look back on when i played it...it does somewhat remind me of a zelda game...
Star Fox Adventures is still my favorite game. I've played it so many times. Only downside is not having a real boss fight with General Scales
Yes the formula for the Legend of Zelda games is more popular than we think.......
BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!!!!!!
I guess all of them are Starfox Clones: All Final Bosses have a head and two hands...
