Beamish Museum - a look at the Colliery's Steam Winding Engine

  • Video of the 1855 built Crowther vertical steam winding engine which transported miners and coal up and down the shaft. It was originally sited at the nearby Beamish 2nd Pit which closed in 1962. It was eventually relocated to the Museum and is still fully working and in steam most days.

    where does the steam pressure come from to make this steam engine run? i am guessing they have modern boiler to provide the steam.
