Toya, I'm originally from New Orleans, living in Houston. My husband and I raised my brother 's daughter too, after he died. She was 10, and now she has her Masters Degree in Psychology. I have always had very heartfelt, honest conversations with her regarding her absent mother. I made her understand that her mom had the problem, not her. She was never allowed to be disrespectful towards her but never sugar coat it either. I got her therapy because I wanted her to grow up knowing that she was loved and deserving of love in spite of her not receiving it from her mother.

I applaud you not allowing the child to speak badly about their mother. I'm raising my nieces and nephews and let them say whatever they think. I would stop and correct them before but so much has been done and so much time has passed and they've been through so much and seen so much that they are only saying about these people what they genuinely feel and what I'm thinking 😂. I wanna get like you but they are walking around alive and not caring for these precious babies they hurt, so if niece says she hates them abd wish they died who am I to say stop, I said something but wasn't overly stern about them speaking like this on bad people.

Loved this episode. Agreed! You also can not carry everyone and their problems on your back. Toya will have way more peace if she allows her family to come to her for support. It’s tough at first to let go but ironically that’s also when the peace will come. ❤
I do NOT agree. Family issues are cries for help that need to be addressed. Turning a blind eye to a family member struggling in any area of life is selfish and in my viewed observation wicked. People WILL CHANGE with the correct help IF they want that change.

I been sober for 18 years now. I'm the baby and I have worked 2 and 3 jobs helping my family. I lost my mom to lung cancer in 2010 and had to bury her myself. Everybody NOT gone want what you want and it's NOTHING you can do about. LOVE THOSE THAT LOVE YOU BABY! STRESS WILL KILL YOU.
