I got the St. Louis Browns,
I got the St. Louis Browns,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town.
Who were the St. Louis Browns?
    Tell us what you found.
The St. Louis Browns were a baseball team,
and they lost more than the Mets could ever dream.
They had a one-armed man in left field named Pete Gray, it was ’44,
there’s no healthy men around to play baseball; them they’s all away fightin’ in a war,
Bill Veeck came along as general manager, long about ’47,
He hired a man to play for them, he stood about 3 foot 7.
I got the St. Louis Browns,
I got the St. Louis Browns,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town.
Who were the St. Louis Browns?
    Tell us what you found.
The St. Louis Browns were a baseball team,
and they lost more than the Mets could ever dream.
Aw, St. Louis had a hitter, Roy Sievers was his name,
And his mat seen more history, he hit many homers in many games,
They had a no-hit pitcher, he pitched a real humdinger,
But Bob Turley got too surly, and they traded him too early.
I got the St. Louis Browns,
I got the St. Louis Browns,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town.
Who were the St. Louis Browns?
    Tell us what you found.
Ah, they never had a Virgil “Fire” Trucks,
But they always had the damndest luck.
Now many a Missouri boy, how he loved those dangerous Cards,
But he never loved the lonely Browns, although they tried so hard.
Meanwhile folks in Baltimore they wanted a baseball team,
so they called St. Louis up and said, ‘do you think the Browns can leave town and become part of our Baltimore dream?”
    Well, you know what happened.
The Baltimore Orioles became a real winnin’ club,
And in the hearts of all teenaged boys everywhere,
Who are now in their 30s and 40s,
Well sometimes they look at their fallin’ out hair,
    And they remember when they,
    had the St. Louis Browns,
    Had the St. Louis Browns,
Since the St. Louis left town,
Since the St. Louis Browns left town.
Who were the St. Louis Browns?
Let me know if anything is wrong, especially that line about Roy Seivers...could not make out what he said in the second line about "seen more history". Thanks!

i think the one for sievers is "and in that team's dismal history, he hit many homers in many games"

The St. Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles, in 1954.

Eddie Gaedel did not stand 4-11 ... but 3-7.

I know that's weird, I think that every time I hear the song. Either Skip didn't know or didn't care, 3' 7" still would've rhymed with '47, or at least used 3' 11'...anyway...

@@avidrocker Bill Veeck, didn't buy the Browns until '51. Of course '51 wouldn't rhyme with 3'7 or 4'11.

Baltimore traditionally had a team named the Baltimore Orioles even when it was a major league team in the 1890s and when they were in the AL in the early 19000s. John McGraw was the manager of the team before he switched to the NL and became the longtime manager of the New York Giants. When he was with the Orioles, however, he started feuding with AL founder and President Ban Johnson and released all the good Oriole players, who surprisingly ended up signing mostly with the Giants. The Orioles were shut down by the league in mid-season because they had no players. McGraw jumped to the Giants and the Baltimore franchise was moved to New York City where they became the Highlander and eventually the Yankees. The minor league franchise called the Baltimore Orioles took their place as the city's team until the Browns moved her. The new owners never had any intention of keeping the Brown name due to the history of losing that they had. By the way, the Browns moved from Milwaukee after the 1901 season where they were the Milwaukee Brewers. Both the Brewers and Orioles were charter members of the newly formed American League. Another interesting thing is the Browns built and owned Sportsman's Park which was built on the grounds of where the old St. Louis Brown Stockings had played in the 19th century. The more popular Cardinals rented the park from them up until the team moved at the end of the 53 season when they sold the stadium to the new owners of the Cardinals, the beer baron Busch. family. And if that history is not confusing enough, the St. Louis Cardinals were once the old St. Louis Brown Stockings of the 19th century. In 1900, the team was renamed the
